Read the reviews here and called on Monday to book for the weekend. Full we were told, but try again on Thursday there could be a cancellation. Thursday - called - not expecting there to be a cancellation, but there was. Who ever it was that cancelled has missed out on a gem of a site. Yes, admittedly this is is only our second time away under canvass (err polyester really) but the site lived up to all expectations. We were at the far end of the site with what amounted to an almost private toilet block (gents, ladies and shower). They were very clean. Shower piping hot (free). Handwash in the toilet. Loo role too. It's hard to find a negative comment. The lighting in there was solar powered so due to the lack of sun they went off early but that's life (with solar power). The ground was firm for pitching. Well clipped and looking very well cared for right from the shop entrance to the pitch we had. Freezers at the site entrance to chill your ice packs. Our kids (8 and 13) were fine around the site, although no playground which might be important for some but not four ours. There is a playing field with some goal posts. A dog walking field for the dogs with a nice trail indicated by cliped grass for you. Easy to spot the remains of the day and bag it! A great walk from the site to Appletreewick where we tried out the New Inn, Great. The best ploughmans we have tasted in a long time and we have tried a few. We motored to Grassington where we bought some meat from an excellent butcher to BBQ back at the site (blocks provided to stop you scorching the grass - oh and if I didn't countless others have - metnioned the picnic bench table and chairs to eat from). The deli in Grassington was good too for some fiddly bits to go with the BBQ - camping needn't be a slog need it!? It certainly wasn't a slog here. No clubhouse but then it's horses for courses and sometimes you may want one and all that goes with it and other times you don't.

Not a bad site stayed for 3 nights, slightly overpriced at £19.50 for a family tent without hook up. Views from pitch great and toilets / showers ok. Shop basics on sale. Great area for walking. This site should consider play area for kids as plenty of families onsite on our visit

This was my first visit to howgill, it is a truly beautiful site with stunning views over the surrounding countryside. The pitches are large and level with a big picnic table for each pitch. The toilet block was very clean and fairly modern, the showers are hot and have lots of pressure and are very spacious. The shop on site sold the basics e.g milk eggs bread etc. I wouldn't recommend this site for a family as there is nothing for the kids on site but is located for great walks. Once again a stunning site and I would return and recommend it to any one who likes walking or just wants to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings

We have been to this site many times and have been twice this year.It is a well managed site an offers campers a chance to relax in beautiful surroundings. This is a site for campers that want peace and quiet and who have a love of nature. There are now three shower blocks/toilets being immaculate. They are cleaned daily. Most of the pitches are flat and well maintained. There is an on site shop and laundry area. As it is a conservation( David Bellamy) site don't be surprised to see a pheasant or two wander past your tent. There are some great walks in the area and local towns to visit. Ann and Bernard take pride in this site and I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone who wants a peaceful rest. P.S Their turkey is huge.

Well we had a great time on this site, by far the best we have visited and will be going back next year. Its got everything you could want on a site, great pitch sizes with own picnic bench and fantastic views. Toilet and shower facilities at top and bottom of site, always spotless which is a must really. At top of site there is also laundry facilities with iron and a decent washing up area. Also a small shop for basics. Owners take real pride in their site and it shows. We couldn't fault this site one bit, weather was not great but you take your chance, hopefully it will be better next year. Well worth a visit, some great little villages nearby.

Well the only thing we could find wrong with this campsite was the weather. It has everything you could ask for. We camped for a long weekend and had a great time, so much that we are going to book again for next year. A well run site, spotless wash facilities of which there are some at top and bottom of site to save your legs, washer, drier, iron, good washing up facilities, shop on site, great level pitches and a picnic bench for each, just a shame we didn't get to use it much. The site is in a great setting and there are some lovely walks and some nice villages close by. By far the best site we have visited and can't wait to go back.

Just had a wonderful weekend at what was probably one of the best campsites I have ever stayed in so am pretty loathe to tell you all how good it is! Fabulous views from most of the tent pitches. Shower/toilet facilities spotless, fridge freezer provided for campers with a 10p charity box donation for their use. Pitches sheltered by stone walls handy for keeping the cooker working well. On-site shop loved and visited by my two daughters regularly. Lovely walk from campsite to river for river dipping where we caught an enormous crayfish! great fun

This has to be the best site we have ever visited, the pitches are generous and the grass is kept short, they all have a table and benches and wonderful views across the valley. Toilets and showers although not the most modern are clean and plentiful and never to far from your pitch. There is an abundance of walks catering for different levels in the immediate area, park the car and forget about it,the nearest pub(the New Inn)at Appletreewick is only a mile away serving good food, good beer and is very child and dog friendly. There is a small shop on site providing a good range of products including excellent bacon for that all important morning butty. This is a gem of a site.

Want to thank you for a lovely week. If you like the countryside and plenty of walks then this is the place for you. The site was very clean. Toilets and shower blocks too. There was an on site shop that stocked the essentials. The views out of our caravan of the rolling countryside was beautiful, hopefully be able to make it again before the summers over.
