Stayed at Howgill Lodge again for four days. Owners are extremely helpful and accommodating. We were very lucky with the weather. Sunny most of the time. The walking was fantastic. Touring site looking lovely. The showers have been renovated and are absolutely gorgeous. Toilets are very clean and tidy. The views are stunning. Bolton Abbey - we had our first visit and it won't be our last!. The Strid being particularly lovely. Craven Arms and New Inn pubs within walkable distances through the lanes and the food in New Inn is wonderful. Went to Settle on our last day and the markets on a Tuesday afternoon are fantastic. Both indoor and outdoor. The cake stall being very tempting. If you are going to the Yorkshire Dales, this touring and campsite is the one to go to. Close to everything yet you feel as though you are in the country all the time. Looking forward to our next time!

Lovely site, backpacker rate of £5 for a level pitch, free hot showers and great welcome. Owners are helpful, site is clean and location / views are fab.
It's a short hike to the New Inn which is better in my opinion that the Craven Arms.
Site was quiet after 10 and I would recommend this place to anyone in the area.
If the hens hadn't pinched by bread I'd have been happier but hey ho !

What a gem of a site wonder how caravans fit down the lane though.
Lovely people showed us where to pitch and if the pitch was too small we could move but it was ample. Lovely terraced pitches and shower and toilets at top were brand new next to the shop ( thank goodness because we forgot our scourers!) which also had a free freezer for ice packs and loanable ice packs too, the toilets and showers in the lower terraces were in sheds but were fine and clean always. We never queued for toilets or washing up even though it was busy it felt roomy.
There was a dog walking area which is always a nice touch and everywhere was clean and well kept.
Good value for money and in a great location for Bolton Abbey which is beautiful and plenty of quaint little villages a stone's throw away.
Would go back and recommend all day long.

Just returned from this site yesterday and did not want to come home. The site is situated in a truly beautiful area. The layout (tiered) of the site gives each caravan/tent lovely views all around. Lovely walk down to the river and then onto appletreewick which has 2 pubs. The lamb shoulder in the Craven Arms/Cruck Barn was delicious. The toilets/showers area was absolutely spotless and regularly cleaned by the owners. Brought two children with us who didn't seem to mind that there was no children's play area. Who needs a play area when you have such countryside around you? Bought some fishing nets and went to the river. Went swimming in Craven swimming pool in Skipton next day. Very nice pool for adults and a smaller one for children. Nice dog walk area on site. Dog's kept under very good control by their owner's. Site owner's and family extremely helpful and friendly. Other campers courteous and helpful at all times. Hardstandings for caravans, a couple of statics on site. Tents well catered for. Lovely long walks available and will do when haven't got the children with us. Will definitely be returning asap.

Site was very well maintained, clean showers and toilets. Shop on site open all day and very friendly and helpful staff. Site was in a lovely setting and although kids were present, it was a peaceful site. It was very helpful to have the dog walk on site.

We visited this site in early july after reading all the reviews.
The weather was against us right from the start and had to pitch in heavy rain, thank god we invested in a tent with sewn in ground sheet or we would have had problems. The ground was quite boggy due to constant rain and thunder storms but this is something we have become used to, having camped in the uk for many years, my moto being, always expect the worst and anything better is a bonus.
The site exceeded our expectations, imaculate facilities, very friendly owners and the most spectacular scenery anywhere.
We had our 4 year old son and 8 week old daughter with us, and although the weather limited our activities we were able to walk down to the river and along to bardon bridge and tower, baby sling being essencial as terrain was too rough for a buggy.
We also drove into skipton and visited the castle, which kept our son asking questions about cannons and enemies for days.
Bolton abbey is a must to visit, as it even has its own little beach which kept us all entertained for a whole afternoon.
Although the trains were not running, we visited bolton abbey station which looks the same as it did during the war, good for taking black and white photos and pretending youre back in time.
On the drive between howgill lane and bardon bridge there is a left hand fork about halfway on which leads up to a small but fairly popular farm tea room. Service was very slow due to being busy but this gave us time to explore. Anyone intrested in model railways should visit as this place is filled with all things hornby and even has an entire upstais room dedicated to yards of working track.
All in all a wonderful place to stay, whatever the weather. Just be prepared for rain.
Although price of £21 per night for a family of 4 is quite expensive, you do get what you pay for and more.

2 Adults and 1 dog. Just returned from a wonderful stressfree break at this lovely site. Read every review before we booked, and the site really lived up to our expectations. We had lovely views, walked for miles, met some lovely people and had a thoroughly chilled and relaxing break.
We chose this site because of the reviews and also because of the location. We wanted to be close to the river - it was a few minutes walk down a rough track. We followed the river in both directions - first to Appletreewick where we found two pubs, and secondly, in the other direction, through Strid Wood, to Bolton Abbey where they were filming an episode of Antiques Roadshow. It was a lovely day out, people were picnicing on the riverside, children were playing in the water, jumping on the stepping stones and having a lovely time.
We arrived on the Wednesday and left on the Saturday and during that time, our car only moved once, for a trip into Grassington. There was a shop on site, but we didn't need to use it as I managed to remember to pack everything we needed. The one essential item I would recommend is a camera as no words come close to describing how wonderful it is in this part of the country. Lots of wildlife, magnificent views, peace and tranquility in abundance.
We found the facilities to be first class. The toilets clean, the owners friendly and welcoming. I cannot recommend this site highly enough. The site was everything we hoped it would be, and more. We shall most deffinitely be returning.

We visited this great campsite for the May Day bank holiday. We hadn't visited before and found it to be a very clean, well organised and friendly site.
Most of the pitches are on tiers going down the hill ensuring that everyone has a flat pitch. The top is where the caravans go and then the tent pitches start about half-way down. There is enough room for at least 2 good sized tents per tier.
The facilities are kept very clean and there are quite a few dotted about the site. The ones near us had 2 toilets and 2 large shower cubicles. In addition the main toilet & shower block at the top of the site (near the lodge) are immaculate and all of the showers are free.
There is a football field for the kids to play on however no play park.
With regards to the surrounding area - well, you couldn't ask for much better. There are walks-a-plenty with Bolton Abbey, The Strid, Simon's Seat and Troller's Gill all within walking distance.
There are 2 great pubs in nearby Appletreewick (both of which were examined in great detail).
All in all a very nice site in wonderful surroundings.

Went to this campsite on recommendation. A lovely place! Friendly owners, spotless facilities and the views - WOW!
Very peaceful as miles from a main road. Great walking - nice stroll along the river to local village with 2 pubs. Didn't eat at either - but will do next time! The food looked great!
Lots of little touches that make a place special - such as lots of books to chose from, games and toys for kids etc.
Can't wait to go back!
(Don't see yourselves low on petrol though - the only fuel station for miles which is about 4 miles from the site is very expensive. At time of writing unleaded was £1.11 and diesel £1.20!)

Just returned from this little gem of a site! Took our Golden retreiver away for the first time and he just love it. He was as good as gold. Lovely site clean, and in a quiet location not the best access to it of you have a really big caravan but you would manage. The walking from this site is some of the best we have ever done. The walk from the site down to the river and then following the dales way trail along the river to Grassington is magnificant. All in all one of the best sites we have been on. As for the none existant play area. I don't think it needs one. There is plenty to entertain children with if they are into walking and wildlife etc.
