Just returned from a fabulous 3 night stay at this campsite and will definitely be returning. It is set in the beautiful Yorkshire dales and is a great base to explore loads of places such as Skipton and Bolton Abbey.
The campsite itself is spotless and each pitch has a massive area with its own table and bench. The toilets are clean with plenty of loo roll and the showers are lovely and hot.
It is lovely and quiet at night too even though the campsite was full of families when we arrived.
The only word of warning is that there is no large shops or off licences within miles of the place so although there is a small shop on site selling basics, if they are closed it will mean a long trek in the car, so go prepared.
Other than that, the place is perfect and I would recommend it.

Visited this site for a family get together as it has the rare benefit of a B&B on site as well for non-campers.
The pitches are levelled terraces of various sizes. We had a large corner pitch for our 2 large tents, this was a good sheltered spot but between the 2 toilet blocks so the smell was not the fresh dales' air we hoped for.
Facilities are good with washing up facilities etc but the price is top heavy for what you get.
Bolton Abbey nearby made for a cracking day out.
Lovely walking and stepping stones across the river and only £6.00 to park a car.
Overall a good site but a bit expensive.

This was my third time at Howgill Lodge in six years. It's in a beautiful spot in Wharfedale, accessible up a farm track some half a mile from the nearest road. We had our usual great time, weather was occasionally showery but was kind to us.
As well as the location, the facilities that make us return are
* Great pitch sizes (we had large frame tent positioned at the bottom level of the site, sheltered against wall)
* You get a heavy duty picnic table per pitch
* Small Loos & shower blocks dotted through site, so you don't have to walk far in the night if you are of a certain age!
* Fridge & Freezer for food storage
* Pub. Although as previous reviewers have mentioned, the pub (The Craven Arms) is about 25-30 mins walk, it is well worth the effort if you appreciate good food, tremendous selection of real ales, and great atmosphere. You have to try the 'bullring' game in the main bar! There is a slightly nearer pub, The New Inn, though we have never visited it.
If I have any criticism of the site, it appears to have become noticeably more expensive over the years (£28 per night for 4 people, no electric hook-up),however this time to be fair we had an extra car and a large tent. Also, I had not appreciated that the showers in the main block were 50p a go. My son went for a shower and had to come back for some money. However, we mostly used the shower in the bottom block, which is currently still free.
All in all,thoroughly recommended.

Have visited this site once a year for the last 15 years and it is the best in the area for cleanliness and facilities.
The site is family run and and they are very helpful.
The toilets and showers are clean and dotted around the site. The shop stocks the basics and the fridge and freezer are useful for refreezing ice packs.
The site is tiered with wooden benches provided for each pitch. Great for visiting Bolton Abbey and lots of good walks on the doorstop.Excellent value for money and will be returning.

Have just returned from a 2 day camping trip to Howgill Lodge.
Sent an email to the owners as it was a last minute decision based on the good reviews. Got a quick response, and called to book. Managed to get the days we wanted, and paid on arrival. For 2 adults, a car, and a 3 man tent (with no electric) we paid £34.00. Quite dear compared to what we are used to paying, but the scenery and pleasantness of the site made up for it. It isn't a very large site, and is set on the side of a valley, down a narrow country track.
The pitches were spacious and each have their own picnic table. There are toilet/shower blocks throughout the site. (The showers are free to use, and the toilets are well stocked with toilet roll and hand wash). There are also recycling facilities dotted around the site. There is a small shop that sells chocolates, sweets, milk, BBQ's and burgers etc. There is also a fridge and freezer where you can keep your ice packs etc (left at your own risk of course).
Lots of wildlife. Birds, chickens, sheep, cows etc. Did get woken up by the sheep and the cows in the early morning, but you'd expect this from a working farm.
Downside, if being really picky (apart from the price, which you can forgive), is that the nearest pub (in Appletreewick) is a 5-10 minute drive, so if you're not an ardent walker it can take over 30 minutes to get to.
Overall, was a nice site and would definitely go back.

Wonderful site, in a super location. Really enjoyed our stay as did my Jack Russell as they were plenty of lovely walks.
The owner was lovely and helpful, told us which way to get too the campsite to avoid any difficult roads. Toilets/showers where clean and well kept.
The campsite has plenty of wildlife to see and enjoy. We lost count of the number of rabbits we saw. There is a children’s play ground, near camping field.
The site is very near too Appletreewick, which has a lake running through it, It’s a Lovely places for a picnic or a walk we spend a few hours feeding the ducks and walking the dog. Looking forward too visiting again soon.

Excellent, excellent site. We arrived at the site on the 15th and from start to finish, until we left on the 18th, we were treated to great service.
The views are fantastic, the pitches well spaced out and serviced, including a picnic bench for each pitch, and clean, well maintained toilets and showers accessible from all areas of the campsite. Never had to wait for a shower or bathroom.
The site has a clean laundry room with ironing boards, washing machine and dryer, and a selection of books and games that can be borrowed. This is a family run site, and it shows in the attention to detail and level of customer service.
There is a small shop, with tea and coffee and outdoor seating area. In the surrounding area, the nearest pubs are about 1-2km away, and the nearest major shops, petrol station about 15 minutes by car.
Definitely a site for campers wishing to see the full beauty of the the Dales away from the hum of a nearby town, for ramblers or cyclists. We'll be back, but with a better tent, as it gets a bit breezy up there! Bring a Windbreaker!

The site definitely has to be on your 'one to go to list' the attention to detail the owners have put into to this site will surely be appreciated by all that visit. The book, games and video library was a nice touch as were the various seats scattered around the site for guests to relax and take in the breathtaking scenery.
The spacious pitches are allocated by size of tent, which is why they ask you on booking so that they can comfortably locate you. The facilities were great with showers and toilets abound and fridge/freezers; book, games and video library; laundry; large washing up area and a communal washing line.
The sheep made noisy neighbours but you are in the country, and the half hour walk into the quaint and beautiful village of Appletreewick is well worth it with a meal at the New Inn a must. The Craven Arms further down the village had a lovely atmosphere with good ales and ad hoc musicians playing but we didn't eat there so can't comment on the food.
We will definitely return to the site; if the reviews that have been given don’t convince you to visit, I don’t know what will!

To say it is the best park ever is an understatement. Facilities are exceptional, views are to die for. Each pitch has its own picnic table which makes alfresco eating a pleasure. Owners are very friendly without being intrusive.
Lots of beautiful walks from the site. We stayed for a week and found somewhere new to walk to each day. Views were breathtaking. Showers were hot and powerful and best of all, free. Large field for dog walking. Road to the site was very tricky but well worth the effort (only a couple of miles).
You really do feel that you are in the heart of James Herriott country. The nearest supermarket and petrol station is about 12 miles away but small shop on site for essentials. Nearest pub is about 2 miles by road but you can take a stroll along the river and reach the pub in half an hour.
We had a very relaxing and enjoyable week and will definitely be back.

Howgill has once again not dissappointed.
We went for 5 days in May (tent and 2 children - 10yrs & 2yrs) and are returning again in June.
The owners are lovely, pleasant and helpful and the site is peaceful and very well maintained, grass always well mown, electric hook ups for campers, plenty of water taps, toilets and showers dotted throughout site (never too far to walk for a midnight dash to the loo!) Dog walking field, plus football area and a small well stocked shop. Laundry area washer / dryer inc iron/board(small charge-pence).
Altogether a lovely place to stay, we have been going on and off since I was a child and we will continue to go - until our knees / backs can take no more camping.
Great walks from campsite, good pubs in Appletreewick which is only a short walk away-good food. Skipton short drive away - castle to entertain children.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this site, can't wait to get back in June.
