What a lovely site with welcoming, helpful owners!
My daughter and I stayed here for three nights on a spacious level pitch with its own picnic bench, which was very useful indeed. Peaceful, with lovely scenery and some cheeky free-range chickens for company, we had a fantastic time.
At the time of our visit ALL the showers were free, as were the hairdryers. Hot water on demand. Ice block service in return for a voluntary donation to a local charity (air ambulance I think). All facilities which we used on the site were extremely clean.
The only negative comment I would make about our pitch is that we were next to the reed bed sewage system, so it could be a bit whiffy at times, and the midges seemed to like it. However, lavender incense sticks bought in nearby Skipton did help. Caravanners, be prepared for some difficult manoeuvring as the site is tight in places.
Local area is beautiful with ample to see and do. We will definitely return.

Have just returned from 3 nights camping at Howgill. We were allocated a pitch right next to the toilet/shower block, which was very convenient and did not 'spoil the fresh air' (as one reviewer previously said). Showers very spacious - plenty of room to leave your clothes etc. No hairdryers in this block though - they only seemed to be available in the main shower block at the top of the site. About 45 minutes walk along the riverside to Appletreewick - can recommend the food and real ales at the Craven Arms. Beautiful countryside - great for walking with the dog. Have to keep the dog on a lead on site as there are lots of chickens running around, but there's a large dog walking area. Would definitely recommend this site to tent owners, but caravan owners beware - the roads from Barden Tower to the campsite are very narrow, including a narrow bridge.

We were totally impressed with this fab site. Although it appears a little pricey, when you get there you see that its well worth it as the site is immaculate and very well cared for. There are stunning views from all parts of the site which is a real pleasure for countryside lovers.
On arrival we received a very warm welcome and were directed to our pitch which was lovely. The site is tiered so the area we were in felt very private. The pitch was nice and flat and well maintained and despite torrential rain on our first night we didn't get water logged so the drainage is pretty good. What we found great was that there was several toilet facilities dotted around the site to avoid long trecks to the loo, especially at night.
The main toilet block is really clean with a good number of showers, toilets and sinks but beware there is a charge for these facilities (50p per shower). The owners have even thought to leave books, games and puzzles for campers to use along with useful tourist information. We didn't use the main shower block but made use of the smaller showers close to our tent (these were free!). Again these facilities were kept nice and clean, well sized and the shower was a great powerful one and we never had to queue despite it being a busy weekend! There are also a couple of washing up areas as well as the ones up at the main block.
We didn't use the shop but our 2 boys (7 & 8) both enjoyed visiting and kept the owner very busy but she didn't get cross even though they were quite clearly time wasters!
Although there isnt a playground for children, our two boys enjoyed visiting the resident turkey and made use of the football nets close to our tents. There is plenty of room for children to explore and play.
This site is ideal if you want to explore some beautiful countryside. Close by is Bolton Abbey which is a lovely day out if you enjoy walking, paddling and even swimming if you are brave enough.

We discovered this site four years ago and have returned each year. The owners are very friendly and helpful and keep the site well maintained. There are good walks along the banks of the River Wharfe so our dogs love the area and also the dog friendly pub the Craven Arms in Appletrewick which serves great food. Bolton Abbey the Yorkshire estate of the Duke of Devonshire is close by with With just under 30, 000 acres of beautiful countryside to explore, excellent restaurants, tea rooms, cafes and gift shop. The market town of Skipton is a short drive and has two supermarkets Morrison and Tesco.

Stayed for 1 night at the site. Its a lovely site with fantastic views. We stayed on the meadow field pitch no 19. We had a stone wall for shelter but also great views. Loved that every pitch had a picnic bench and the pitch sizes were good too.
There were small toilet blocks dotted around the site all over which was nice so not everyone was using just one big one. They were always immaculately clean and never busy when we visited.
There is a small shop on site with enough of the basic provisions you could need. The owners were lovely and helpful.
Really liked the layout of this site with it being tiered on different levels and the toilet blocks dotted around. The site was full when we visited, but no problems.
We drove to Appletreewick and called in The New Inn. Had some tea and the food was lovely proper thick home made chips - well worth a visit. Burnsall is gorgeous. On a warm day the river is full of people in dinghy's! Surrounding area is stunning and so many places to go.
The only slight negative I would say is that it is a bit pricey compared to other camping site, but the money is clearly put back into the site so not really all bad!
Would definitely return to this site, hopefully very soon and would recommend to anyone.

Great site which is well worth a visit although since Loll1's visit the dog walk has been converted to a field with sheep and lambs so dogs definitely on a lead. Moors closed to dogs seems to be a bit strange but true and limits the paths from the site as they all cross forbidden land.
Lots of kids on the site and people meeting for birthday parties so not the place for a quiet early night.
Good shop although we did not use it.
The site has recently converted to a reed bed sewage system so environmentally friendly WC fluid only and watch out for the wind direction as the reeds need to 'bed in' yet.
Watch out for the potholes on the approach road especially the one on the left as you turn out of the gate - it is deep enough to damage the mover on your van. I know!

This is a really nice site, showers and toilets spotless plenty of room and no annoying push buttons. Site is set out on tiers so everyone benefits from beautiful views.Good dog walking area on site which is enclosed so you can let them off lead. Plenty of walking from site unfortunately for us dogs are not allowed on the moors.
Be warned if towing a caravan it is a difficult place to get to.
Drive to site was a bit stomach clenching you drive through narrow arch at Bolton abbey, then over a narrow bridge at Barden, then narrow country lanes, drive there not to bad but coming home on a busy sunny day was a nightmare. So for this reason would not visit this site again, which is a shame as we did enjoy it.

My two children (7 & 9) and I stayed just one night here, have been before and its a lovely site, just a bit pricey £21 for 1 adult & 2 children. The owners are very helpful and friendly, shop sells all you'd actually need, but its no supermarket. Get your stuff before you go
The amenities are very good, very clean, new etc They've obviously been updated recently and kept to a very high standard.
We stayed on the 1st April, and there were D of E in the tent field so we were put on the tiered section, great views and quiet, but shallow sandy soil with stoney build up beneath, done for drainage I guess when the site was changed from a slope to tiered in the 80's. Just a bit of a pain getting your pegs in (esp with V pegs etc).
Evening walk along the river to Appletreewick, we saw load of Lambs, bunnies etc but then a stag and a doe. Then to top it off a heron, the kids loved it. It was a quiet night though, guessing in summer it will be some what busier. The New Inn served a limited edition of Old Peculiar, oak cask apparently. Lovely.
Due to time of year the owners where happy for us to leave when ready on the Saturday afternoon, so the kids and I walked up Simon's seat, fab views and a nice little climb up the hill.

We visited Howgill for two nights in our motorhome in September.
This is a great little site. There is a main shower/toilet block (50p per 7 minute shower), and the standard of the facilities is superb. In addition there are smaller toilet/shower blocks dotted through the site which is convenient and also because they are small buildings you don't notice them and they don't interrupt the view! (these smaller facilities are free also).
Each pitch has it's own picnic bench, and the pitches sit on rows of terraces which means you aren't directly looking in on each other. There are also some fantastic (and rather private) pitches for campers further down into the site. Children aren't specifically catered for but it's a really safe feeling site, without lots of traffic and with lots of wildlife - chickens and rabbits wandering the site, as well as the cows and sheep in the neighbouring fields. We have a 2 year old who didn't get bored.
The site is a few miles drive away from anything else you may need so it really is a case of getting away from everything but Bolton Abbey is still only 10 minutes away for walks and river splashing and Skipton is about 20 minutes away which has all the main shops, coffee shops, regular market and a Tesco.
We will definitely be planning to return.

Lovely site with beautiful views. Seating areas around the site and colourful flowers give the site a very pleasant feel. Toilet and shower block are modern and always clean. Little well stocked shop on site.Shower room has books and videos to borrow also laundry room, fridge freezer and lots of leaflets to tell you what to do in local area.
Great for wildlife, bird feeders are around site, woodpeckers are often seen on site. Friendly chickens come to visit, rabbits can be seen early in the morning and evening. I went walking near the strid and spotted deer in the trees.
There are two nice pubs 30 minutes walk away both do lovely meals. Supermarkets, shops, canal and market in Skipton 15 minutes drive away. Great for walkers lots of easy and more difficult walks in the area. Close to Bolton abbey, Strid. Barden tower etc. Owners are very friendly and helpful.
