Thank you to grouse hill a fantastic site.
Very friendly and family run site.
We were welcomed on site and found it a very pleasant site.
The shower and toilet blocks were very clean as was the utility rooms.
The lower camping field has its own shower and toilet blocks and utility room.
There are several electric points.
The site has a card security system .
The shop was well stocked and its close to a good pub.
The site has a a play area and a walk through the pine trees brings you to a lake and stream.
The owners have two wonderful golden retrievers and are always happy to chat.
The prices are very reasonable and I believe they have two AA stars.
If your thinking of staying around whitby or scarbrough this is the best campsite around .
Its ideally placed for the short journey to goathland as well. Robin hoods bay is also just down the road.
Our son really enjoyed staying here. As did my self and my wife.
Thanks again to all at grouse hill

Just returned after a weekend stay at this site and we had a fantastic time! The site is easily accessible and only a 15-20min drive to Whitby. All the staff are very pleasant and helpful. The shop is well stocked and you can find everything you need on site(food, gas, newspapers). My only negative comment is that the web site does not do it justice. Toilet/shower block very clean as is the rest of the site , Whitby is a great place to visit, there's plenty to see and do, you'll never get bored. I would recommend Whitby and this site to anybody and we'll be returning before the end of summer for sure.

Visited site during august for weekend break. We found the site to on quite a steep terraced hill, on which if you were on the backside of the terrace you could reverse your unit in but if you were on the front side you had to push in, which could be quite difficult with larger units or if on your own as I was at the time. The picture on the web site looks as though the site is flat, quite misleading. The road access to the site is good although access to the pitches in places is really 4x4 terrain and access was a little tight and awkward. Be carefull with the electrics too the site we found out only has 6amp hookup so take a gas kettle. We blew the electric everytime we turned anything on. We also found the site owners a little 'off' and unhelpful at times, the first time we blew the electrics we told the office then went out for a few hours on our return the electric was still off eventually I had to resort to sorting the electrics myself. On the upside the toilets were clean and the security gate is a good idea although I would have liked to have card entry as well as exit.

We stayed here after a recommendation from another campsite - must admit the photos on the website do this site no justice - it is peaceful secluded, security conscious - the lady on reception was very helpful even took us to our plot The facilities were spot on - clean and hot water in the showers and there was a number of blocks - each part of the site had their own which meant that we never had to queue. The washing facilities were very basic but again clean and for what we needed We took our dog and were made to feel very welcome by everyone The only downside was the windy weather and the midgies, my husband was covered in them by the end of the weekend, maybe it was more due to we were closer to the enclosed lake area as we wanted an electric hook up and were closer to the caravans - a major plus as it was so quiet Would recommend this site to everyone but watch out for the midgies!

Stayed over bank holiday weekend and found facilities and site very clean. Site is on several levels on small hillside, most of the tent pitches seemed fairly flat. This site has a lot to recommend but there is a big drawback depending on when you visit. Pick the wrong time of year and you could be bitten to despair by thousands of midges. The problem seems worse at the bottom of the site near the trees, but we were severely affected as were the other people on our level.

When we drove over the hill approaching this site it was like approaching shangri la. This site welcomed us with open arms, booking in was done in a friendly efficient manner and the owners were friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The toilets were plentiful and clean and the shop well stocked and reasonably priced. The area has lots of interest and this site is an ideal base. The children loved it and we will definitely return.

This site is not bad, we were only there for the weekend, I don't think that I could manage a week there. The staff were polite but not particular friendly. The biggest problem was the electrics kept tripping out and it wasn't just us, most of the tents had the same problem when trying to us more than 1 appliance at a time. The midges were a nuisance but we went armed with repellent and candles. Good walking area around and about. The showers and loo's were spotless, yes, a little on the small side but a small price to pay for cleanliness. The pub which was 10 Min's walk away, serves OK food. Not much choice on the menu and dishes a little on the small side and it's not all freshly cooked from scratch like they say. Over all, it's a good handy little site for a couple of nights. Would go again.

We arrived here on Friday 27th July for 3 nights, there was eight of us in four tents, all couple's aged between 25 -30yrs. We were able to pitch our tents all together, there is adequate toilet and shower areas (6 toilets, 3 showers in ladies) in each block. Also there a socket for your own hair dryer and straighteners! The site has recently been levelled in the lower field and has a small shop on site and is a short walk to the service station and the Flask Inn Pub which serves great food. Grouse Hill is situated in a good area to get to Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby (both a must see). Overall a nice relaxed site not to restricted like so many site's around. Cost £13.00 a night (2 adults,1 car & tent) plus £2.00 deposit for toilet key and £10.00 deposit for exit card both refunded on departure. I would stay here again and for a top tip take some Net spray!

Not quite sure if the previous reviewer stayed in the same site or the toilets have been updated / changed, but I have to say these were amongst the nicest and cleanest ones I have ever seen on a site. Badly designed maybe (bigger showers would have been nice). Excellent facilities, well looked after. Our weekend was incredibly wet and busy (Bank Holiday), but constantly, the friendly hosts were out making sure that the facilities didn't become a mud bath.
No midges fortunately because of the rain (I guess), although we were halfway up the hill (very flat).
The surrounding area is beautiful although a bit sparse for amenities (Scarborough is only a 20 minute drive) although it helped having a pub and a well-stocked garage at the bottom.
The on-site shop is well-priced although it doesn't have much in the way of food.
In general, the kids were very happy with the playground, we were happy with the owners and although busy, a great site.
