We booked as a group of 2 families and 3 extra adults. We had to assure the owners that we wouldn't drink a lot or make noise late for them to take the booking. When we arrived we were put on a very rough patch of ground at the bottom that was very rutted and uneven - it was hard finding a level spot for our son's travel cot!
Irritatingly half way through the week a noisy group did arrive who were placed on more even ground and closer to the other tents, but still close enough to us to disturb us at night. We didn't say anything to the owners though so we didn't give them opportunity to sort it out. The one benefit of where we were was that we had plenty of space to ourselves.
On a good note we were allowed to bring an extra tent to for us all to sit in together in the evenings and although we discussed a small charge this was never actually applied to our bill, which was nice. There's a nice short stroll to take the kids on to the stream/lake and play area although it was a long way from where we were pitched.
The toilets and showers were lovely and clean and free of charge and you could pay to use a family shower room if you wanted. The sinks were quite high and few steps for the kids might've been useful. The staff were always very friendly. There was a reasonably big shop - but no fresh fruit or veg at all, only tinned (maybe there could be some frozen veg?) and we found the opening hours inconvenient because we often wanted to be out and about when the shop was open.
I have to admit we found this campsite rather characterless but if you want good access to Whitby and Scarborough, reasonably close to Robin Hood's Bay with high quality facilities this is a good site to pick.

We have just stayed for a week at this fabulous site, we were checked in really quickly by the lovely staff, even though it was busy! the shop is well stocked and reasonably priced, the shower and toilet facilities are excellent, they were cleaned 3 times a day and all though it rained constantly for 3 days the staff kept them immaculate, there was constant hot water, the washing up facilities were lovely and clean and inside so you were protected from the rain, the family bathroom standards were equal to that of a hotel for a small extra charge, also they have a childs play park that is one of the best ive seen on a campsite!A fantastic site and a credit to the owners Andrew and Caroline we will definitely be back soon!

Just spent the Easter weekend here and really enjoyed it. When we arrived we were checked in by helpful friendly staff and we were escorted to our pitch unhitched and sited by them. We found the pitches had plenty of room with a stand pipe close by. The toilet and showers were always clean with plenty of hot water. The views across the moors are spectacular.
There is a wooded area at the lower part of the site with a children's playground and a exit for walks on the moors. There is a pub just outside the camp which serves good food. We will be back.

We (party of 2 ) stayed here for few days in September 2013. Found it via this site (UK campsites).
If I said the site was quite a drive from anywhere, it might only be because we live on an Island, and are not used to driving huge distances to visit attractions, or the nearest shopping area, but I suppose for non Islanders, it was fine.
We have a large tent, which fitted well on the plot - (quite close to one of the 3 toilet blocks, which was where I needed to be, as I am not very mobile in the mornings!) As I walk with a stick, the path/road surfaces needed to be conducive with safe walking - and they were, except around the toilet block, which were quite uneven and lifting in places.
The facilities were EXCELLENT - clean, numerous and well maintained. The water was piping hot. They had a couple? of inclusive washroom/toilet rooms, which is ideal for disabled visitors.
We stayed midweek, so it was very very quiet, as many of the caravans on site were privately owned and empty except for weekends. I imagine it would be a much different campsite during school holidays!
The nearest pub - at the end of quite a long drive in, was excellent - the food was extremely good, if a little expensive. But, as it was the only place to eat for miles, that was to be expected.
We only had one day of torrential rain, on the day we decided to tour the hills and vales - (couldn't see a thing most of the day), so expected to find the tent underwater on our return - but it was just fine - well drained terraces on the sloping site prevented any mishaps.
All in all, I would recommend this site

My husband and I stayed in a wigwam on this site for 5 nights. It was a wonderful experience. The wigwam was comfortable, not too hot when the sun shone, and warm enough on a damp day when we needed to put the heater on. It was very useful having electricity with a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. The nearest toilet block, which was very clean, was nearby - a level walk along the track. Sitting at the picnic bench and eating outside was perfect on the sunnier days.
The wigwams are fairly low down on this terraced site, with only the camping field at a lower level. A walk to the top of the site provided wonderful views of the surrounding moors, and there are footpaths direct from the site onto this moorland. Perfect.
The owners were friendly and helpful, and gave good recommendations for local walks. The Flask Inn just outside the site provided good value snacks and meals, and was not too busy when we went.
With the nearest coastline only about 5 miles away, and being near the main A road, travelling to other places was easy. The location and surroundings were perfect for us. We would highly recommend this site to others.

Lovely clean site. Excellent toilet, shower and washing up facilities.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Well stocked shop on site.
Good woodland walk and kids play area and loads of room for kids to play.
Excellent things to do locally. We visited Whitby, Sandsend, Scarborough and Robin Hood's Bay. Good nearby cycle track.
Sainsburys close by for a big shop if needed.
Downsides were the midges that descended every evening and forced us to sit inside the tent and we came away with many bites. Also very noisy families in nearby wigwams who stayed up very late and had no respect for the curfew at 10. 30(more than one group of people so I suspect this would be an ongoing situation).
Would love to return again but don't think we could cope with the midges again but a very good site if midges don't find you attractive.

Loved the location of this site tucked well away from main road but all main tourist areas easily reached. The site is surrounded by moorland and woodland lots of easy walking nearby. Well laid out with tents separate from caravans. Plenty of toilets and showers all very clean maybe some hooks around basins would be useful.
No noise after 10 worked well found it to be very quiet at night.
Staff at reception very helpful and friendly.
Shop a little sparse on basics.
Lots of space for kids to play and small playground situated in wood.

We stayed here as a group of 6 adults, 6 children and a dog in 3 tents. The site was clean and well looked after, including the toilet / shower blocks (which you need a key to access). Plenty of hot water for showering and washing up. The children's play area was great and we all enjoyed the woodland walks - even though one of our group was almost eaten alive by the midges! Our pitches had electric hook up and it was really convenient to have a drinking water tap by the hook up posts rather than having to lug heavy water carriers across the site.
There was a small group pitched close to us whose behaviour and bad language at 3am was really not what you would expect from a family campsite. The owner / manager couldn't have been more apologetic and dealt with it quickly and in my view appropriately.
We loved the fact that the site was so convenient for exploring the local area and we had a day at Robin Hood's Bay and another at North Landing, Flamborough.
The nearest supermarket we found was a sainsbury's on the outskirts of Whitby, although the shop on site sold a few bits and pieces including bread.
We will definitely go back in the future.

Grouse Hill, such a find. This campsite is nestled just off the main road you would never know it existed.
We were given a choice of pitches, we choose to be near to the children's play area so we could keep an eye on them playing. Children had the best time ever making dens in the wood and paddling in the stream, they also got a great deal of freedom on this site as we allowed them to walk to the shop for penny sweets and food items we had forgotten
Toilet block facilities more than adequate with three different toilet blocks offered for use, plenty of hot water, and the cleanest we have ever used whilst camping. In fact the whole site was very well kept with hanging baskets and flower pots outside reception a real welcome!
We ventured to the Flask Inn several times not cheap in price, but we had very nice food and we could take our dog in.
On our last day we found the fantastic walk to Robin Hoods Bay from the site this took approximately one hour, we walked through woodland, countryside and along the beach. Just splendid for children and dog walkers. All in All a super holiday we will be returning again very soon.
