Ite possibly the worst campsite I have stayed at!The reason they only show an aerial picture is so it doesn’t show you the great sloping banks on the ‘top’ field and the muddy, damp and shaded area at the bottom near the midge infested pine trees! The toilet block was dirty, made of concrete and breeze block with not a tile in sight. Full of cobwebs with the sinks coming off the walls, every time you press the tap the torrent of water (sometimes brown) bounces out of the sink on to anyone standing nearby. Cubicles are made from cheap white MDF and the locks do not fit properly. Showers have nowhere dry to put your cloths and are ridiculously small – no wonder they are free! You only get one key per booking, so only one of your party can go to the loo at a time. There seemed no end to the amount of people they were taking bookings from, as it was quite literally tent peg to tent peg (no marked pitches) I couldn’t find one happy camper this weekend – and it wasn’t the weather that dampened the spirits either!

Lovely site with very clean and well maintained toilet facilities. The staff seemed friendly enough, even when they asked for the 6 children in our party to stop filling small bottles with water to throw at each other (it was a very hot day) to conserve water, they were pleasant - although I did wonder why the gentleman in the expensive caravan was allowed to pressure wash his caravan 2 days in a row! There is a great pub about a 10 minutes walk away serving food, with a kids outdoor play area, tabletop football, pool etc - very child friendly. There were only a couple of problems with the site - firstly it is on a slope and secondly , when we were there, we were literally bitten 100s of times by the midges! We would definitely go back but I would recommend a trip to the library to read up on "midges seasons" if indeed there is any such thing!

A lovely site with great views and access over the nearby moors. A little noisy as it was a weekend and there was one particular couple that had a little domestic whilst the rest of the campsite were settling down to sleep. Despite this, we would definitely go back, clean and very friendly site. Toilets block were kept clean and access with your own key, toilet blocks were one per field so it wasn't far to go. A great pub 5-10 mins walk with super pub-grub and we noticed a little shop on site too although didn't visit as only stayed for the one night.

This was a very nice site although we were beginners the toilets, showers and wash up area were very clean [showers free] There were a couple of very noisy people on site who decided to party until about 2 in the morning, don't know who shouted to them to be quiet, needless to say they did not surface until mid morning and then partied again that night bless, it rained at midnight so the party came to a halt. The camp site was full but we had plenty of room. we would go back. The shop on site was reasonably priced i found a few things cheaper than at home. The scenery is beautiful and the yorkshire coast is amazing. Whitby, robinhoods bay, are only a few miles from this camp site,if when visiting these places park in a long stay car park, your tickets are transferable to other towns on the east coast so get a ticket for 24 hours. Joanne we will return to this site for a few days next year

My husband and I visited the site for the third time, and we still love it, the owners are really friendly and polite, the site is always kept spotless! The only downside was the midges on the first night, but after that we got used to them and didn't let them ruin our holiday. The location is excellent, as Robin Hoods Bay & Filey isn't too far away. We will definitely be returning in the near future!

August 2004 2nd visit to Grouse Hill, very friendly owners, always willing to help. Campsite was a bit noisy as it was Bank holiday. Camped at the bottom near the trees but went prepared with citronella candles etc. Will definitely go back again, maybe at a quieter time.

August 2004 Just had our first camping trip and choose a good site. Toilet and shower facilities kept as clean as possible with the wet weather. Owners very helpful. Ideal location for visiting Robinhoods bay and Whitby. Only advice would be to try and camp away from the pine trees at the bottom of the site because as previous reviews state lots of midges (take some repellent). Would definately visit again.

July 2004 Good site, nice views of moors. Toilet blocks (2) always clean and tidy, have to pay deposit for key but get that back so no big deal. Good shop on site. Weekends get busy so get there early and yes the midges near to trees do bite!!! Other than that very good would go again.

July 04 Great campsite, have been going since I was 1, am now 24 and take my own children. Great views and walks over moor from the site and private wildlife lake added fairly recently through pine trees at bottom of site as well as wooden play area. In walking distance from family pub for great meals if you dont fancy cooking. Love this site.

May 2004 We stayed here for 2 nights at Whitsun and had a fantastic time. The kids made friends instantly with the nearby kids and they all enjoyed a game of badminton or football. The toilet blocks were immaculate and the on-site shop stocked the essentials.
Be warned though if like us you pitch near the pine trees at the bottom of the hill the midges come out at night!!! It was almost unbearable to sit out!!!
