Easy to find site, clean and tidy, plenty of hot water for showers - key for the toilet block is a real pain.
Downside, if you are scared or allergic to dogs - don't camp here - they were everywhere, had to step over a large one in reception on arrival, a couple where running loose in the tent field, loads more on leads, constant barking.
We had a meal at the Flask Inn, no children in the main bar, but dogs welcome! Though I have to say we never saw any dog mess anywhere, but they were weeing on the tent field and up cars.
Pitch was small, but adequate. The grass around our tent desperately needed cutting. There is no hard surface off the tent field onto the perimeter track, so this area was like a ploughed field and made driving off difficult.
We enjoyed our weekend, knew dogs were allowed on site, just didn't expect so many so won't return because of this.

We arrived for our 7night stay & were greeted, paid our balance, plus the £20 deposit for the facilities key & security gate card.
As we have a large tent we were shown down to the foot of the hillside to pitch up, we were pleased with the setting. We pitched up & prepared our evening meal whilst being eaten alive by the tiniest but most aggressive midgies ever!
We were relatively happy then midweek the rain came. The area where we were turned into a swamp, as we were at the bottom if the hill it all stopped with us! There was no drainage what so ever.
The following day brightened up a little so thought this would help however everywhere else dried up apart from our level. Visiting the toilets was an expedition as it was so slippy it was dangerous!
We went out fri when we returned our level had been crammed with tents, along with the other non elec side far more tents than there was room for, only just for a cars width between
Rain still came, got worse! Feel that campsite was greedy for the bank holiday weekend & loo key & security card totally unnecessary
Will definitely not be going back

We chose this location because it was close to the coast and we thought the rates were very reasonable. We were a party of 4 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs. The staff were very friendly and helpful when we arrived and we had the pick of where we wanted to pitch our tent. The toilet/shower blocks were excellent, very clean at all times and the site was very well maintained.
The Flask Inn pub is only a short walk (5 mins) but didn't visit so are unable to comment.
We really enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be going back and would certainly recommend this site to anyone.

We were very disappointed not to get on our preferred site and phoned round at the last minute for an alternative. Grouse Hill said they could take our family of four tents for the April Bank Holiday. On arrival we went into reception to be greeted with a smile and pleasant manner, making us feel very welcome. We were allowed to choose our own position on the camping field which was flat and well maintained.
The shower block and toilets were clean and modern, they were checked and cleaned during the day. The washing up facility was indoors, nicely tiled and clean.
The grandchildren enjoyed the play area and the woods surrounding the camping field.
The whole family agree that this site will now become our preferred site in the Whitby area.

Grouse Hill has recently installed two 'wigwams' to its site. The wigwams are wooden structures sleeping up to four with electricity, heating, a fridge, kettle and microwave.
I stayed for two nights in March so we needed the heating but it was more comfortable than camping.
The site has a fully equipped toilet and shower block, although the end shower was very cold on the first trip.
The site is about 4 miles from Robin Hoods Bay and there is a great walk there and back across fields and along the cliffs taking in Bogle Hole and the beach - make sure you check tide times!
A 200 metre walk is the Flask Inn which serves food between 11.30am and 8.15pm and a cafe as well as Total service station.
We had a great time, the wigwams are fun and comfortable. The owners also tell me they are looking to increase to nine in total. Would definitely recommend the site.

We camped at this site Easter 2010 and will definitely return. The tent pitches are at the bottom of the campsite and well sheltered by woods at the bottom and the moors rising above on the sides.
It is one price no matter what size tent you have and you just pitch where you want on the tent field, the facilities are ideal and spotless, there is a small play area for kids and if you walk down through the woods there is a pond.
The reception is at the entrance of the site, where you need to book in and pay before entering. Across the road from the Entrance to the campsite is the Flask Inn which we visited a couple of times for a drink and a meal, the Flask Inn is a lovely warm and friendly pub and I'd say a must for anyone staying at Grouse Hill.
If you enjoy walking Grouse Hill is the ideal site, straight of the campsite onto the North Yorkshire Moors :o)

I chose this campsite because of the location (great) and the facilities (not so great).
When we arrived we were asked to pitch right at the top of the hill as we were told we'd get a better nights sleep there! The pitch was level and the view was lovely.
The toilet/shower block was very basic and dirty at times, even though the site was busy I would expect standards to be higher. The showers were free BUT ran cold after a minute or 2 of showering. Taking the key every time we needed to wash up or use the toilet was a real pain, especially as there were 5 of us!
The area is beautiful, we visited Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough, all different and all with something to offer the family.
On Saturday evening we visited the Flask Inn. The boys fancied a game of snooker and when we asked the landlord if they had one we were told 'yes its in the family room, where you are going now'! We will not be going back! How rude and what a terrible room, we just wanted a quiet drink with a quiet game and were subjected to noise and dirty conditions crammed in like sardines!
Over all the site was below average, the staff just friendly enough and the facilities basic and a little dirty. We wont be going back.

A great location for the coast. Toilets/ showers were ok but weren't cleaned regularly enough and toilets didn't all flush at all times. A key was required to open the toilets / pot wash area which was a pain if you needed the toilet when someone was washing up, although not a bit deal just an inconvenience.
The shop was ok but don't rely on it for your essentials. As dusk is approaching the midges are extremely bad, that bad that we went off site to avoid. The campsite does welcome groups and is good value for money, whilst I will probably never return I had a great time whilst I was there.

A group of us booked 5 pitches here. The staff are friendly and helpful when one of the group couldn't make it at the last minute. I'm sure that they have to deal with lots of 'difficult' customers, and do it courteously. It's nice to find a campsite that's not sniffy about group bookings too.
We pitched on the 'top field' so that we could be together, and it's windswept (bring big tent pegs) so didn't have much of a midge problem, and you can pitch away from most others. It's on a fair old slope though. The view over the purple heather clad moors was fantastic to drink a few glasses of white wine to though!
The terraced pitches down near the tree line are flat, but looked very busy as it was folk week etc. In nearby Whitby, and the natural windbreak of the trees make them midge heaven. I could do without the clouds of BBQ smoke to.
The facilities were good, but the top field's toilets weren't open even on the Aug weekend we were there, so the toilets / showers / washing facilities open were busy and getting a bit grubby. Having to cart a key around for them was a pain to.
On balance though I'd use this site again. There's a great 4 mile (1-2 hr) walk to Robin Hoods Bay to, so bring a good OS map. There's a bus from RHB / Whitby back to the Flask Inn (that's the bus stop's name) at the end of the campsites drive.
There's a cafe next to the Flask that does good breakfasts, but the Flask itself condemns any group with as much as 1 under 16 y.O. To the dire 'Family Room'.

We booked this site for a 3 day break with 2 adults and 3 children. And I must say, it is probably one of the best sites we have been to. The site is based on a hill, but the owners have tiered it so the pitches are level, and there are steps that make walking up the slopes easier and this are lit at night so walking to the toilet/shower block in the dark is safely lit.
Our pitch as opposite the playground and the kids spent the majority of their time on their including our nearly 2 year old, they had a ball. The playground is the only activity for the children, but they never mentioned once that they were bored.
The toilets and shower block were very clean and had lovely hot water in the showers, and for the size of the site I believe there were 3 separate shower and wash facility block and never once did we have to wait for a shower.
The water taps were situated all around the site, and we had a tap right next to our pitch which was fantastic, and they were positioned about every 4 th pitch, which was fantastic. There is a pub close by, which we didn't manage to visit and also a shop open on the site, but we had no need to visit.
The site is about 10 minutes from Robin hoods bay and about 15 minutes drive to Whitby, which both are fantastic places to visit and not too far from Scarborough.
The only down side to the side was the road humps on the drive to the site, but that is it. Fantastic site, and will definitely be visiting again sometime soon and would highly recommend it.
