July 2004 This is a really lovely site which the kids loved, There is a large bank where the tents are pitched and all the kids enjoyed rolling down it, unfortunately the day after the heavens opened so it was too wet for them to play out so we popped to the pub outside the campsite, the food was okay, but a bit bland, but the portions were good. The pub on the site is lovely with a disco and karaoke on the Saturday night and also bingo which was expensive one pound per book. The only fault with the site is the toilet block isn’t up to much and the showers were awful, too hot or too cold which isn’t very good when you are showering young children. But all in all we would definately go back as it was a very friendly site and nice and quiet on a night time.

April 2004 The site is very child friendly with a new climbing frame and a big field for them to play in. They have a club house which we didn't sample but it was nice to know it was there should we need it. The site is away from main roads and trains etc. The only noise we heard (apart from the campsite noise) was the occasional plane (much to the delite of my two year old). The toilets were a disappointment. They were clean enough however the shower cubicles are tiny and the water pressure dire. Some people complained of being scalded but I experienced the opposite (not cold but only warm). The worst bit was that you had to pay extra for this. It was a token affair which they didn't tell us about. The whole shower/toilet block was very dated and worn and could possibly do with an update.

Year round We have stayed at this site many times and could have been put off after our first stay, a near disaster with a drunk deciding to drive his car and it nearly ended up in our tent. Not to be beaten we went back and have stayed here many times since. The Shepherd and Shepherdess pub is about a mile away and the food is great, this also has a childrens play area. If you don't want to leave the site there is a very nice club house with the childrens play area next to it so you can keep an eye on the kids while you have a quiet drink. The shop is well stocked with food and throw away barbeques e.t.c and the toilets and showers are kept clean. There is a large Asda supermarket only a couple of miles away and Beamish is only at the top of the road which is well worth visiting. The tent field is only really usable around the sides but it is a very large field and the kids tend to play cricket in the middle. All in all a very nice site and we will return again soon this year.

August 2003 A friendly site with clubhouse on site - handy for Beamish Open Air Museum and historic city of Durham. Main caravan area is flat and a mix of statics and tourers. Only criticism is that the overspill camping field used at peak periods is steeply sloping with few flat pitches - so avoid peak times if you need a flat pitch.
