We stayed at Bobby Shaftoe's about 2 years ago. What a change a few years make. Since our last visit they have crammed more pitches on it was very busy. They have also started to develop the touring pitch area by moving more statics onto the camping area. There used to be two ways to the club house now there is only one way. The road around the field is very rough just quarry waste stones can bounce up and hit your van. We have young children and were told the prize bingo was child friendly the club house did allow children. The bingo did not start till 9:45pm and after purchasing books at £9 each we were told you had to pay extra for the roll over prize bingo. The real ale was not the best, the normal beer was ok. We only went to the club house on one night of our three night stay. They did adhere to the 11'oclock rule and quietened down after that. The toilets were smelly and dirty they did not flush well so you were always greeted with a Mr hanky. The showers cost extra but were hot and lasted 6 mins. Last time we stayed the kids could play on the green areas. In fact games were arranged between the various van owners we missed this on this occasion. The toilets were a lot cleaner last visit so this needs to be addressed. The campsite is close too Beamish and the Tanfield railway and their are some nice walks through the woods. Would not stay for three nights again one night is just about enough.

Used this site just for 1 night after a visit to Beamish. Find the staff very friendly, they urged us to visit the clubhouse that night as the Bingo prize was on a rollover and up to £500! We didn't make it however as we were just too tired after trekking round Beamish. However we have used and enjoyed the club on previous visits. Used our own facilities as they were a bit of trek from our motorhome. Pitch was fine though some are a little tight. Overall good.

I booked a caravan at this site on the 16/9 till the 20/9. I was greeted by a very friendly member of staff who quickly processed the paperwork and them shown me to my caravan, I was totally amazed to see the caravan I was hiring and that was just from the outside. Inside the caravan was even better, 3 PC suite with revolving chair, very nice decor, rc fire, tv with built in DVD which the kids loved, the kitchen was better than mine at home, every item you need was in the cupboards. I stayed there with my kids who are 2 yr old twins, they loved it, the little park they have is sufficient and the zip wire ride was great as well. The main bedroom had an ensuite which was very handy, totally central heated which to tell you the truth was too good ( you only need it on half power even in the winter ) the storage space for clothes / food etc was brilliant. It has a little pub on site with friendly staff and even the owner pops in for a pint or two. It's close by to a lot of visitors attractions / pubs / restraunts and towns. On the whole I would highly recommend this site to anyone and will be going back myself.

First time at this campsite and had a lovely time the people were lovely the staff very helpful. There is a little shop on site that lets you buy microwave chips and heat them in shop itself prices are very reasonable we are looking forward to going back next year. The only thing I would change is the pitch itself it was on a slope so I would choose a more even 1. We even got a facial off a lovely lady called carol who has a tourer on site permanent. There is a small club that has bingo and karaoke and the children are allowed in which was great because the park outside kept them occupied

Just arrived home from our visit here. Its been about a year since last here, and got to state that we still love it!we used our tourer on this occasion, and had a lovely pitch with nice views. The weather was fantastic, so on this visit we opted to stay around the site. Met up with some friendly folk, both tourers and static owners. Days were spent. BBQ by day enjoying the views and sun, then in to the friendly clubhouse on an evening. The staff here are sound, always get a good craic on and the atmosphere was superb over a few drinks. We are returning this weekend to meet friends we have made on past trips. A great friendly place.

We arrived looking for a space and were a bit shocked at the price of £30 per night for a small campervan, and shocked even further when we were then told we had to pay for showers! The pitches are very close to each other and the fresh water tap was stuck on behind our pitch the majority of the time.
The Gents toilets were perpetually flooded throughout the 24hours or so we were there and were not especially clean- we have stayed in a lot cleaner campsites with friendly staff and better facilities for a LOT less money.
On the plus side it is close to Beamish museum and the Tanfield railway- meaning you do not have to spend much time actually on the site.
On the plus side, it was very secure, and had a good play area for kids, however I would struggle to ever be able to recommend the site.

Sad to say I didn't enjoy this site. Grass pitches too small for our folding camper left no where to park the car and it was the same for other people in tents on the site. Ended up with a cluster of cars everywhere. I found the toilets unclean. It was a very hilly site, pitches not level, a relative hired a pod, had no beds in, looked like it was falling apart and she was woken very early morning by the crows attacking it. Staff weren't too friendly either. I won't be returning.

We booked this site as we were off to the athletics at Gateshead.
Great little site which is very secure as the gate and toilets/showers are run on a key card system which you rent for £20 when you check in.
All very clean and the staff are very friendly, as we found out as we chatted to them in the on site club. Some pitches are on a slope, but happy to say not ours! would visit again without any worries.

We weren't sure we would like the site, but it is so near beamish thought we'd give it a try for acouple of nights. However it's a wonderful site. The wash rooms were always clean and there were lovely hot showers, the shop staff were very friendly and helpful. The club house was ok and had a lovely selection of beers. It was quite while we were there, but I would think it gets very busy through weekends and school holidays. The site is so near Beamish museum which needs more than one day to visit. We will recommend to anyone and will go back.

This was our fourth or fifth visit to this family run site and again out family had a great time. Its not too far for us to travel, but when there you feel a million miles away in the lovely countryside.
As always, we were made to feel very welcome and after spending the daytime rambling around the local woods and countryside, a visit to their clubhouse bar was had and we caught up with folk from our previous visits.
All in all another lovely couple of nights spent here, we're returning again this weekend for the sites anniversary celebrations.
