We had a great stay here for 3 nights leaving today. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The touring gravel hard standing pitches are in a circle on a gradient and ours was level and did not require ramps with a grassed area to set up a table and chairs on. The views from our pitch were open countryside all round and no traffic noise. The shower block was adequate and cleaned well. We used the clubhouse for a drink in the evening which was also fine. There are a lot of caravans here on a permanent basis as it is well run and quiet. We chatted to some of the owners who were really friendly. There are also many statics with well tended outside areas with pots of shrubs and flowers. Speaking to people who are there permanently they told us that the owners do not tolerate noise or bad behaviour and do not accept single sex groups for that reason. Beamish museum is a pleasant 20 minute walk away through woods and fields. So, all in all we were very happy and will return.

Second great stay with Wife and two children. Amenities were fantastic as was the activities which were provided for the kids over the Easter Bank Holiday. Again the permanent people on the site helped make our break extra special due to their friendly nature and offering some much needed advice on maybe upgrading to a caravan from the tent. Overall another great stay and the only item I would mention is maybe opening all the toilet blocks up even just for the bank holiday weekend.

Great stay

This site did not bother replying to my e-mail to them on the 13th April. Because we were at Beamish with our grand daughters, its location was near so I decided to pre book any how.

On booking, there was limited to no information given. On arrival was met with a less than welcoming warded/receptionist. Was informed at booking in, that there was a £20-00 deposit required for toilet and gate fob, and that the showers was £0-25 for 6 mins. None of this information was given to me when I pre booked and for £22-00 a night the showers should be included.

Although there was 2 simple basic play areas, after 10 mins kids were fed up.

I found toilet tissue stuck behind the cubical door, and small amount of rubbish in the male cubicle toilet used. Shower cubicle felt restricting and uncomfortable, but water very warm and plenty of pressure, almost like a power shower. Partner told me no lock on a shower cubicle in female toilets. Had to pay £0-25 for use of hair dryer.

Dog faeces on grass area in a position easily to be seen if a warden walked round.

Had to rush around on the Sunday morning to be off site by 11 am.

Would not stop at this site again, our stay there spoilt a good weekend. Hospitality is lacking from all those we had dealings with.

Just returned from a 2 night stay.

Fors: Clean toilets, clean & tidy site all round, friendly staff, lovely views

Against: Not a lot of toilets serving a site of this size, pitches were a bit too close for comfort, 5 a-side football pitch right in the middle of the pitches.

The football pitch was my main gripe. There was a constant bang, bang, bang where the ball was hitting the metal fence surrounding the pitch plus my wife got whacked on the back with a leather football when it went flying over the top of the fence. No apology was offered from the sheepish kids. Nothing against the football pitch itself, but it should be well away from the touring pitches, not smack bang in the middle.

Stayed three nights visiting friends who have a caravan and we can't fault the place! Family friendly, immaculate toilet / shower blocks and great play area for the kids. Yes there's a five a side court and play area in centre but for us this was ideal giving our two boys some independence in a safe environment where we could still see them. Club house also great with our kids making them feel grown up and I found the staff and regulars with permanent pitches to be to very friendly and welcoming. Overal a fantastic stay and looking to go back soon.

Possibly the worst site we have stopped on in the last three years.

Our Motorhome is only 6. 7m long but only just fit on the hard standing pitch. And the pitches were crammed close to each other.

Our daughter likes to sleep in an inner tent inside the awning but the ground was so unlevel she just rolled out of bed and ended up sleeping in the van, in fact it was so unlevel we struggled to put the awning up.

We stayed on the site for three nights and hardly slept at all because of ignorant people playing music, laughing and joking till the early hours of the morning, the kids were even playing football with torches. It wasn't much better in daylight as one resident walked his dogs over to our pitch to use it as a toilet.

I also think that at £28 a night it seems a bit steep to charge an extra 25p for a 6min shower.

All in all a very unpleasant experience from which I was glad to leave and we will not be going back.

We go to this site a lot. but this is the first time this year. what annoyed us most was the EHU should have been 10 amp but it kept tripping. when I went to reception I was told they had to drop it down to 6amp to stop people using electric heaters as it was overloading the system, I was appalled at his remark as this is not a cheap site to stay on at 27 pound a night plus extra for your awning. the club is very pricey too.

In view of the mixed reviews felt the need to give mine. We have just returned from an overnight stay simply to take 4 year old grandson away. Last night of half term break so pretty busy. Lovely sunny day so lots of people on site. Lots of very friendly people, both tourers and seasonals, and lots of friendly children for our grandson to play with.

Toilets were spotless in the afternoon, floors a bit wet and grassy by bedtime, by morning gents in particular could have done with an early morning scrub! But that is the fault of the campers, not the staff who were in cleaning the facilities by 10. 30.

Road round the touring area is certainly not tarmac but is nowhere near as rough as described. Fine to drive and walk over, little tricky for a bike with stabilisers, too bumpy for a scooter.

Less than a mile's walk via woodland path to Beamish. 10min drive to Metro Centre. And only 40 mins from home. We will definitely be back.
