My daughter Sophie (11) and I stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of Dec. We had only tried to book the site about 10 days prior to visit not knowing it was such a busy site. When I called up I was told we could have the Mon and Tues but Sun was full so we booked these dates and phone on the Sat afternoon before we left to see if they had space and thankfully they did saved us staying somewhere else for 1 night. While on the phone the lady answering was very helpful and cheery.
We arrived at the site on the Sunday about 2pm after visit to Eden Camp and there was another 3 arrivals checking in, even though it was a busy time I found it didn't take long and staff where pleasant and helpful.
Once we got to our pitch (no25) we set up and went for a quick look round site and on first impressions I was very impressed how tidy it was.
The toilet block at first we both thought would be to small and really busy but while there we had showers everyday at different times and at all times I was the only one in gents and Sophie said there was only 1 person in ladies. So either the shower block was big enough or no one else shower because it was so cold lol. The shower and toilets where spotless and loads of hot water.
The site itself is just outside York centre about 10mins walk if that and if you go out the back gate you are about 200yards from local shops so really handy. If you go out the main gate and turn left and walk about 100 yrds you will find the park which was covered in snow when we where there and has an awesome play area (Sophie's words)
The site was very full even for this time of year and as one van left another arrived but never seemed busy could have been due to cold weather.
Well seemed to have rambled on a bit but cant recommend this site high enough and will be going back soon.

Stayed over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Site was full but pitches big and spacious so did not feel crowded in.
Great for access to York, only about a 5-10 min walk into city centre so you do not need to use the car.
Toilet/shower facilities spotless could maybe do with a little updating.
A great site warm and friendly welcome would definitely return.

Excellent site, the toilet facilities are absolutely spotless. Great location for visiting York, everything is so close by you do not need to take your car. Rowntree Park next door to the site is ideal for children of all ages especially older children as it has a great skateboard park. My kids love this place and would go every week if they could.

Good all round site for visitng the city of York.
Plenty of nearby shops, pubs, resturants near site. Town centre approx 15 minutes walking.
Good clean site if a bit dated.
Only downside I would say without-malice that the wardens seemed a little stern and abrupt as if too busy to acknowledge you, not the friendliest welcome.
Position hard to beat for visiting the lovely city of York.

Excellent site which is a short walk into York and a little further for the National Train Museum. Free entry to the Museum but £7 carpark charge if you use your car. Suppose this does support the museum though.
Site facilities are the excellent CC standard but the site is prone to flooding from the nearby Yorkshire Ouse so check with the site if there has been a lot of rain in the area. You will find it very hard to book this site for weekends as its very, very popular. What a week we had when we stayed, the Caravan/ Motorhome show was on at the race course, York was in the middle of a food and drink festival whith market stalls in the centre and the Yorkshire Regiment was given the freedom of the city, not to mention the outdoor theatre we dropped on nr the Millenium bridge.
There is a park ajacent to the site for the kids to play in and you can fish on the river, don't know the details for licences etc. Well worth a vist for this historical city, but book early and check the weather, you will see what I mean if you have a look at the grinding wheels from the old chocolate factory outside reception, one has the level marked on it for the 2000 flood that hit the area but don't let this put you off its a great place to visit. Check whats on in York by visiting the York website, Google it.

Our first visit and all I can say is EXCELLENT! Cleanest toilets and showers I have ever seen. Showers very spacious too!
Site maybe not ideal for small children because of no play area and it is a small site. We came on our own without our kids.
But we will be returning! With our kids, although they are older. The park is next door with a huge skateboard park! Plenty of places for bikes too. A ten minute walk to the main part of York, ideal!
Stayed on site all weekend without having to nip out in the car. There is a small high street nearby with a cash machine and a few shops accessable by a key from reception. Seemed strange at first having to go through a gate, but very handy!
The owners sometimes seemed a little stern, maybe not the friendliest welcome I have experienced.
But overall, would recommend and advisable to book well in advance as books up very quickly over the busy periods!

Well. It had to happen to us, as we seem to attract disaster! Booked into the Rowntree Park CC site on Sunday 19th Jan for 1 week. Not one criticism of this typically superb Caravan Club (CC) site The proximity to the centre of York is a real plus here, although unless you have a powerful TV aerial booster and great aerial, you WILL NOT receive any kind of TV reception (very poor even as concerns digital TV). A great excuse to actually interact with family of an evening (or better still a night out in beautiful & unique York)!
We were only there for two days before the river rose sufficiently to cause enough concern for the excellent wardens to evacuate those from the lower end of the site to the higher (and at 3am)! The next morning I asked if it would be safe to take a day away from the site visiting York, the sensible answer was 'not really'. The main access (riverside road) was now under about 3ft of water, with only half a meter to go before encroaching onto the lower end of the site. Access was now only via the emergency rear entrance. We needed food, so left the site just for half an hour to do the essential shopping. On return (after 30 mins) the caravan was basically surrounded by water. The excellent wardens refunded us all and assisted generally in the evacuation. We personally only just made it (we must have seemed very funny in our panicked rush to pack up in time. All the time the water getting nearer). Our neighbour HAD made the mistake of going out for the day. I only hope that he had no security device on his van, as my last memory was one of the wardens assessing its ability to be towed out by themselves (I cannot commend those wardens enough). I hope that they succeeded!
Flooding is possible, although relatively rare on this site (I was very unlucky due to my visit being during the awful heavy rain that caused flooding to so many areas in Jan 2008), and as the wardens themselves told me; they have never lost a caravan yet! An excellent site, and highly recommended (that is if you can actually manage to book a place!).

This was an exellent site situated ideally for town centre. We spent 3 days here and really enjoyed it.
We had our dog with us and found the walk up the river was great for dog owners.
Wardens were friendly, the only thing we wernt that happy with was the location of the M/H point,it was a bit awkward to get onto.

We stayed here for 4 nights on the way back to South Wales from Scotland and really enjoyed it. There is lots to see and do in and around York and our 4 kids loved the railway museum etc. The site is right on the river with lots of walking and cycling opportunities to hand. You really wouldn't know that this site is in the heart of the city as it feels so rural and quiet despite being one of the busiest we have ever been to. Amenities up to the usual CC standard. Would like to return without the kids one day to try out a few pubs and restaurants.

Visited this site in July and it got very busy, fully booked. The wardens were not very friendly and both ladies and one of the men were very abrupt. The toilet facilities are clean and tidy, bit dated compared to some of the cc sites. Very close to the town centre, lots of pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance. York is a very nice place for a weekend break and we will return to York but not to this site.
