Me and my family have just spent our 1st night at rowntree caravan park. It was a very pleasant short stay we wanted to stay another night but it was fully booked up. The park facilities was 5star, toilet and wash areas was spotless nothing out of place. It is in a good location, it's about a ten minute walk into York and also on door step of many pubs shops etc. Can't fault it apart from male attendant could probably smile more

Visited York in November. Club site has had a major refurbish since our last visit the shower block is more modern now. I find the wardens helpful on this site. It is ideal to just walk along the river bank about 800 yards and you are in the centre of works shopping centre. There are plenty of good pubs and restaurants nearby. If you go out of the back gate local shops are handy too. Leaving the site can be a problem due to caravan and motor homes waiting to come into the site the wardens are very strict about this as well so my advice is arrive after 12. 00 to stop the problem of blocking the lane. If you park on the back row be warned there is a public park and children's play area and you will hear them on a morning if you fancy a lay in bed. Great site overall though.

Just returned from a weekend on the site.
Bit of a scamble for pitches as no one is let on till 12:00 as a result of narrow access. We arrived dead on 12:00 and there were at least 7 vans and campers waiting.
Site is excellently clean and tidy, serviced by friendly staff. Toilet block immaculate. Not the most picturesque site but well worth a visit.
Real positive is great position as only 10 minutes walk into York - we will be back.

Visited the site to go to a wedding in the city and this site is so close to the centre it is a gentle walk along the river,
The site has just had a major upgrade and the facilities are just fantastic, spotlessly clean and well designed.
Pitches good sized with hedges separating them all.
Access to the site is down a single track road so don't arrive too early as the people will be leaving the site up to 11. 30
One word of warning, keep an eye on the weather forecast. Following exceptional very heavy and persistent rain the site was evacuated in the middle of the night at the end of September when the river rose and burst its banks. Some folks went straight off, others went to the racecourse and sorted themselves out the next day, by then the centre of York had started to flood.
Would we go back, yes definitely if we can manage to get a booking on this very popular site.

A brilliant location for a campsite, just off the river Ouse and within 15 minutes walk from the city facilities.
The toilet block is brand new and therefore all the amenities are spotless and well up to the usual caravan club standard.
This site is very busy and is usually full all year round, so, early booking may be necessary.
Access is through a 100 yard single track and so small tail backs are likely whilst booking in is arranged.
I don't need to write here what the city of York offers this can be found on the internet. I can only say that it is a wonderful city that is popular and full of hustle and bustle.
It is marvellous that a caravan site exists so close to such a great location.
Would go here time and time again.

Location
The site is situated in Rowntree Park, on the riverside and a 5-10 minute walk to the centre of York. The city is a brilliant place to visit with an array of shops, places to eat, museums and history. Much closer is the small town of Bishopgate which has a Sainsbury's and several pubs, restaurants and take-aways.
Facilities
All pitches have electricity and are hardstanding. Toilets and showers are fine, but need updating - the site is closing in 2012 for this to take place.
Price
Quite expensive in the high season - we paid £50 for two nights for two people.
Overall, an excellent site. It's very popular so you have to book early.

One of the worst receptions ever received from wardens at the totally below par Caravan Club site. Rude and unhelpful to people staying at this site causing numerous rumblings and complaints from fellow campers. The site shuts next year for a refit. On checking the Planning Information (no details made available by Caravan Club) this appears to be alterations to the site layout, revamp of toilet facilities and improvement on service area for motorhomes (much needed).
On a positive note, the location is great for access into the centre of York being only 5 or 10 minutes easy stroll. York is a fantastic city offering delightful meandering cobbled streets, shops eateries bars, steeped in history and ancient building – not to mention the Minster. The site is adjacent Rowntree Park with loads for kids to do. Dog walk/exercise just short walk from site, plus Millennium Bridge. Just hope the refurbishment deals with the site problems, upgrades the dated toilet block and replaces the wardens with a more user friendly breed!

This site is ideally situated for York, being only a 10 minute stroll along the river to the centre.
Make sure you adhere to the arrival/departure times, as access is along the riverbank and is narrow, I certainly wouldn't want to reverse a motorhome or caravan along it!
We had an issue when we booked in as the length of our unit was wrong on the Caravan Club database, this was resolved, but I felt the staff made a meal of it and I wondered at one point if they could fit us on - however they found us a pitch in the 'riverside' section of the site. I would have preferred to be in the main site, but as we were only staying 3 nights and didn't intend to sit out or use the safari room it didn't really matter.
The motorhome service points seemed to be oddly placed, and at busy times would easily cause an obstruction if used so we decided not to bother.
Showers etc were clean and functional. For some reason you only get issued with one key to access the facilities, which proved inconvenient at times.
Overall a nice site, we will return again as York is a gem of a city with plenty for everyone, including an amazing stunt scooter shop which our 2 boys (9 and 13) are very keen to visit again!

Visit Rowntree Park twice a year. Brilliant site on the river Ouse. Lovely walk into York (about 15 minutes). Plenty of shops and bars offering good food. There is en excellent Fish and Chip shop to eat in or takeaway which is value for money (best fish ever tasted). The York Minster is a must to visit (quite breath taking)as is the Train Museum which is free entry. There is a Designer Outlet not too far way with every shop you can mention and also good eating areas upstairs. The site has been closed for a few month having a complete re-vamp. It opens again this month and certainly cant wait to see it. The site is so popular booking well in advance is highly recommended.

Just returned from a weeks break, We went for the food and beer festival. What a perfect site really handy for walking into the town. Site was a little dated, But no real complaints.
You must stick to the arrival time or you will be sent away. There was a bit of mayhem as people arrived 10 mins early. They were sent away to return at 12 midday.
The road leading to it is narrow. Fish and chip van visits Mon/ Wed/ Fri, handy if you don't want to cook on your first night,
Would definitely stay again. Looking forward to visiting again next year.
