Just spent two nights at Rowntree Park, all the facilities you would expect from a CC site.
For a winter break it was ideal for me and the wife with the added bonus of location location location. Easy walking distance to all the York must see and does.
Wardens seemed friendly and unobtrusive.
If you fancy a few beers pop to The Swan pub a few minutes stroll from the site, very friendly with a great selection of real ales, dog and children friendly.
Moving off on a tangent, the CC recommend that the site is accessed from the south of York via the A64/ A19 through Fulford, for me travelling from the North East this would have added around 20 miles to the journey.
Our route was A19 to York ring road, picking up the A59 after a couple of roundabouts, this takes you to the city walls at Micklegate where you do a sharp right at the Punchbowl pub and a few hundred yards later you will arrive at your destination.
Very easy route with no tight spots.

We have just enjoyed our maiden voyage in our new motorhome and chose this site for its closeness to York and advertised facilities. We were not disappointed in any way. Facilities very adequate. Plenty of showers. Site nice and wardens very helpful. Close to York itself on the riverside so short walking distance to pubs, shops and restaurants. All we could wish for in a weekend break. Will use this site again for sure.

Just returned home having spent Christmas week here and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Location for York is why this site is so popular as a 10 minute walk puts you right in the city centre. Only downside was the wintery weather but that didn't seem to put anyone off as site filled up as Christmas approached. Great park next door with swings etc for the kids. Shops, takeaways et c 5 mins walk out of back gate [you get a key on arrival] and 3 good pubs nearby selling proper beer!. Read reviews regarding wardens being unfriendly and officious but this really wasn't the case, they were doing a great job in very difficult conditions whilst we were there although I did see a chap have to move his caravan after setting up because his van was about 4 foot away from the white marker peg that they ask you line your van up with but they do tell you when you check in so there's no excuse. All in all a nice site in a great location. A tip-follow their directions from the A64 and A19 and you wont have any problems.

Having checked the CC website for space for the last 3 months this site appeared to be permanently fully booked. We turned up on the off chance and 'Site Full' sign was out. Even so popped into the reception and yes no problems can fit you in for 2 nights.
The Site Full board seems to stay out always - but there were spaces and others turned up and go on - why not move the board if there are spaces???
The lady warden on reception was friendly and helpful. The toilets look a bit dated but clean, plenty of hot water in showers but low pressure.
Overall a good site where its best point is it's location - less than 10 minutes into York city centre. At £15.70 for 2 adults it is great value for money.

The site is opposite the river and easy to find. I was slightly anxious having read other reviews about flooding but even after a whole day of rain the pitches drained well so don't let this put you off. The pitches are generously wide but not very deep and our 7m motorhome just fitted in nicely. They are all hardstanding and separated by hedging. The site is very quiet, although you do get some noise from the park next door but it wasn't intrusive. The park is excellent for children, with a separate play area, tennis courts, fenced skateboard area and football pitch. Further on (out of the park) it opens up and dogs can be let off lead. The wardens weren't overly friendly but were very efficient and yes, they are up and about just after 8am so don't bank on a lie-in! Internet access is an eye-watering £5.00 for 5 hours but this can be used anytime on any caravan club site. There is a locked gate at the rear of the site (you get a key) which gives quick access to a supermarket, various take-aways and bakery. York town centre is an easy ten minute walk and the coastal towns of Filey, Bridlington and Scarborough are only about an hours drive. There is also a designer outlet shop 10 mins drive from York. We are hoping to visit again next year.

Just returned from Rowntree Park as our last trip out this year.
The pitches are laid out back to back with hedges between most of them, and pitching is controlled with military precision.
We found the wardens to be at best stand offish, very unusual for CC wardens.
However the main attraction is obviously York. All shops, Minster etc within walking distance, very flat too. Site is next door to Rowntree Park itself which is huge and lovely with a playground for kids. Also alongside the River Ouse and a path ideal for walking.
Toilet block seems a little dated, and apparently the site has flooded the past 2 winters.
Local shops are a 2 minute walk through the back gate (key supplied on arrival) and major supermarkets a short drive away.

City Centre it is just a 5 minuet walk and you are there, we were greeted with a very warm welcome and the only request is to observe the speed limit which is not a problem.
As the site is very busy upon looking for your pitch you will be limited but for the size of the site the pitches are of a good size.
The shower block was very clean as was the pot wash area, there is a good information hut just to the side of this area.
Follow the signs not your sat nav like I did it will take you down a one way street.
This site is ideal for a visit to York, one last thing you have to depart by 11.15 due to access.

Have just stayed here for two nights but would have certainly stayed much longer had it been possible.Staff found us a great pitch for our large twin axle van at short notice, much appreciated.
Great location and very close to York City centre, about 10 -15 mins walk at most. Next to the river Ouse with great walks but above all fantastic cycle routes in abundance as York city Council has worked hard to provide facilities for the two wheeled brigade. Well done for that!
Fantastic site, very clean and up to the Caravan Club's normally high standards. Will most certainly revisit this site in the future for much longer next time.

Location-Location, that was what this park had. First off the area, York town centre was within a ten min walk and was probably one of the most interesting towns I have walked around in this country, we walked the walls which took 2 hours. Took my son to the national railway museum which was free and was a very good day out, again we walked it about 20 minutes, we also drove out to Whitby and Scarborough which took about a hours drive
The Site- The caravan club obviously relies on Location with this site, out of our 15 day holiday our 6 nights were the most expensive. Tthe site is prone to flooding so the reception and toilet/shower block is raised from the ground, to say they were dated was a understatement. They were not clean either. We arrived on the Sunday and it wasn't until Friday that the ladies toilets had a working hand dryer, there was sometimes paper towels left after cleaning but these ran out very quickly and was never replenished until the next day. Also the wardens thought it fine to cut the hedges at 8am, we are on holiday and would have liked a lie in. The wardens were not as friendly as we have found at other places, my daughter took our dog out for a walk and on the way the dog decided to go for a number 1 by the grass, the warden spoke to her sternly to remove the dog, we are considerate owners and always carry the correct equipment everytime we are out with him.

Location is good for York city centre.
Pitches are hard standing all in rows quite tight with a small hedge to separate, does give the feeling of staying in a big car park.
The site is well run with military precision.
We eat out in York a couple of times and were surprised to see at night that this fantastic city turns into a stag / hen party venue with loud drunken groups roaming the streets.
However there are a good couple of local pubs and shops only 5 min walk away.
