We got in here at the last minute so were lucky considering how popular it is. We are Australians and have been travelling around the UK for 6 months.
In this time we have visited around 45 sites and have to say that this site has been our number one. In fact we are back here again now (September) and finishing our trip on this site.
It is very close to York. Only a 10 to 15 minute walk to the centre. The wardens have all been very friendly. There is a laundry with 1 washing machine and 1 dryer.
The toilet/shower block is kept very clean and lots of hot water. They reception sell a few basic items but there is a locaal shopping strip just behind the site. They give you a key to the back gate so is very easily accessible.
There is really quite a good selection of shops there and has a real village feel to it. Phone, internet and TV reception good.
We hope to return to this site next year when we plan to come back and take the van over to Europe.

Stayed for 3 nights end of July, starting on a Thursday. Site was full and clearly not a lot of leavers on a Thursday, arrived at 12:00, got straight on but only one pitch available for a TA caravan, about 5 for shorter units.
As expected for a city centre site pitches are on the small side and close together. May have been unlucky with my choice of time to visit but had problems relaxing outside and sleeping due to noisy and inconsiderate fellow campers.
Staff friendly but toilet block in dire need of an upgrade.
Good selection of local shops within walking distance using back gate. Rowntree Park and Riverside walk both very nice, as is close proximity of the sites of York.
As site is nearly always full don't know if I would visit again, would probably choose a CL and travel into York.

Most of my comments have been aired in previous posts. Facilities a bit dated, pitches rather close together.
No problems with customer service but I do think it is a tad over priced compared to other Caravan club sites. I understand that the site is owned by the Council and is now up for negotiation. I suspect the fees will only increase. If this is the case I would expect to see some upgrading of the facilities to reflect the price. I know it is priced relative to it's ease of access to York but that can only go so far.
That said I think it's popularity will mitigate against any upgrading.

Cannot agree more with all the other reviews. The location of this site is excellent very easy walk into York City Centre, therefore it seems very popular with Motorhomes.
The Wardens very friendly and helpful, pitches on the small side and pretty close together but this did not seem to create any problems for anyone.
My one little grumble would be the keys for the toilet/shower block, much easier to have a coded entrance.
York itself has so much to offer for all age groups and there is a fantastic designer outlet retail centre about 1 mile from the park.
Look forward to our next visit.

Booked this break in Dec'10 when new bookings went live, wanted to see what all the fuss was about. We had mixed feelings on the site, location is fantastic and we took advantage of being able to walk into York.
The toilet block is probably of the lowest standard of all the CC sites we have stayed at. Very dated, clean but lots of cobwebs too!
There seems to be some kind of lottery when it comes to pitches, we were told we had to have a white peg pitch, which was fine, but small, and no way big enough to put an awning up and have your car there too.
This did seem to cause a few problems with fellow campers, but as we only had a few days and arrived in the rain, we didn't bother with awning.
Just a short walk from the site you will find everything you need from restaurants, takeaways, butchers, delis and convenience stores.
York is fantastic and its somewhere we stay often, we would use the site again for the convenience but there are many nicer sites in the area.

Well this must be the best located site for visiting an historic city. Its about 10-15 mins walk to the town centre. The nearest major tourist attraction to the site is Cliffords Tower about 10 mins walk.
There are all the shops that you would need out of the back gate (walking) 5 mins up the road, two mini markets, veg, butcher, bakery, chinese, indians, fish and chips shop + other shops and pubs too. The Swan and The Slip Inn are the closest and both welcome dogs.
Rowntree park backs onto the site and only takes a few minutes to walk around to the entrance with loads of geese, ducks, coots and morehens and it also has a large children's play area, tennis court and bowling greens the river is next to the site too.
The amenities are more dated than most club sites but were always clean, some of the pitches are small - but hey you can forgive them anything for the wonderful location of the site.
Do not arrive before 12 it is a big problem if you meet caravans coming out along the river road. The site also floods so there is a small possibility you will not get your holiday.
Will definitely be going back again.

We recently stayed at Rowntree park over the Easter bank holiday - managed to get a late availability.
Was really impressed with site location - literally 5 minutes walk into town, great riverside walks, and the york walls were easily accessed.
Facilities on site were ok. Little dated but absolutely pristine clean.
Pitch sizes were ok, not the largest we have had but certainly adequate for caravan, awning and car.
Great break - we will be going back.

We have holidayed on this site 3 times in all, although its incredibly hard to get on. Unless you are successful in securing a place when the booking frenzy starts in January, all the week ends are soon taken for the whole year. That said, I can understand why as the location is second to none for a city stay.
There's immediate access to the town centre where you can shop till you drop, take in the wonderful buildings and enjoy a snack in one of the many cafes, restaurants and bars including the now famous Bettys Tea Rooms.
Enjoy all this in a wonderful cosmopolitan atmosphere which takes on a whole different feel in the evenings. Take a boat trip or open top bus ride to lean more about York's history and the awe inspiring minster.
If you feel like relaxing, a large park is right next door and offers tranquillity for those wishing to wind down as well as play areas for children. As for the site itself; the pitches are quite small if you have a larger rig (we have a twin axle van) and therefore can be a bit tight to get into.
The wardens are really helpful and they were happy to accommodate our request for an extra 2 nights. Their local knowledge was also very useful. All in all, a great experience not to be missed!

Awesomely located site for visiting York. Literally just 5 mins walk along the river and you are in the centre of York.
Very busy site and although the CC web site had said it was full for the last 3 months we turned up with our fingers crossed and were squeezed in to the last pitch they had!
Very friendly and accommodating wardens. Made us feel very welcome and helped out with our many queries.
On day of departure not able to stay on site beyond departure time due to business of site, but there is a Pay & Display car park about 200m up the road with no height restriction. However it does have 4hr max stay during the day. It is free after 16.30 and gates get locked at 21.00.
Will definitely return to this site in the future.

We stayed here for one night and it was almost full. As its in the centre of York City its an ideal spot right next to the riverside. The Warden asked us to find a pitch and report back but told us to park facing the road for health and safety. ( Caravan Club sites always have more rules than any other ). The showers etc were well kept and the site was very quiet at night and you don't hear any passing traffic. We asked to stay another day but no room available. Its very hard to book in here due to location. We would try again and spend more time in York.
