Stayed at Rowntree Park in July. The site is up to the usual caravan club standards. No dog walk on site but an excellent park next door and there is a lovely walk along the river going south. No children's play area on site and I feel this is a very small down to this lovely site.As many with children know that kiddies like to play together on site. There was a small tent are which wasn't being used when we where there and some of the children did use this area to run about in.Which would be better suited to a play area. All day and into the evening noise from the the park next door and the neighbouring streets could be heard. The site is only a ten minute walk to york. For dog owners please note that dogs are not allowed on the city walls. We ate out and our favourite restaurants where Cafe Uno and Cafe Rouge. Plenty to suit everyone. We visited the Yorvik centre which was excellent.Would recommended this site and we will be booking again for next year.

A really clean, tidy and friendly site! Some of the pitches are massive and most have little 'privacy' hedges in between. It does get incredibly busy though, so I'd say booking is a must. Washroom/toilet facilities (key operated) were excellent - nice big showers! Loads of information on site about where to go and what to see and do. The city of York is just a 10 minute walk from the site. York Minster is amazing (unfortunately we couldn't go in with our 4-legged friend but it looked fabulous even from the outside!). The Shambles area of the city has some lovely little quirky shops, cafes and pubs. There was a market there the day we visited with lots of stalls selling local produce. You can explore the city by open top bus or by boat if you wish too. If you walk out of the site and turn right (not left into the city) and follow the River Ouse you'll find the Millennium bridge which is worth the walk!

A very clean site with great access to the town. Walking about 10 minutes. Toilet blocks where cleaned every morning and where maintained to a very high standard. Only one block on site and so older or less able folks may want to arrange closer pitch. The Jorvic center in York is worth a visit. To save waiting in massive ques book on the phone the day or so before you go. The National Railway Museum is a must and is a great day out for all the family and its free ! Try Betty's Tea Rooms for afternoon Tea, nice but a bit expensive. Also get a bus tour when you arrive in york. £20 for a family get a 24 hour hop on off ticket, helps getting oriented with the town. I would return to the site without hesitation.

We stayed here for 2 nights while we visited DIG and Jorvik. The location cannot be faulted! I need a stick for walking and we made it into the centre of York, (Clifford's Tower, The Duke of York pub,) within 15 mins! The gentleman behind reception was quite sharp, wanting an explanation why we needed 2 cars, and again when telling us where we were pitched. We really didn't like him to be honest. The facilities, as always with CC, were spotless. If you compare this site with other CC sites, you would have to say that you 'feel' more hemmed in, not that you're stuffed in, just not as much space as others. Staying that, your lucky if you can book a stay here this side of Christmas, so that could be the reason for that. Rowntree isn't a 'sit back and relax' place to stay. It is, however, ideal for York and all that the city has to offer. If I wanted York's attractions, I wouldn't hesitate to return.

The site was easy to get to as the directions given was spot on. The site was once of the cleanest I have visited although it is quite expensive it is well worth is as you couldn't get much nearer than this. It was idea. Rowntree park right next door so ideal for my children and they loved it, It was lovely of an evening to walk along the river ouse I had a fantastic weekend here. The only down side I have was 2 out of the 4 staff I spoke to was very unhelpful when I was in reception there was a foreign couple who had been told by the tourist board there was vacancies at the site, The older gentleman on reception was very rude and told them its not his fault and go find a phone and ring other sites then completely ignored the couple (who were quite nice.) When I asked could I book again I was told abruptly that I would have to wait as i couldn't book for next year until a certain date and there was no chance of booking again before then. Other than that as long as you are booked on the site I'm sure you will enjoy your stay and I would go back again.

Booked this site on the web site and requested a pitch near the toilet shower block as me and the other half are both disabled was given pitch three next to the block. Very clean and well maintained site. Staff were very helpful gave me instructions how to get into York centre on mobility scooters. Rowntree park next to the site is very nice. Plenty for the kids even got a place a for skate boarding

The key to this site is the location which is fantastic - beside the Ouse a short walk into the centre of York. It's a bit more cramped that is usual for a caravan club site, and some of the spaces are tight, but given the popularity of the site that's understandable. The facilities are as would be expected from the CC and therefore fine.
Even in mid-February the site was fully booked when we were there (including mid-week) so book ahead.
There are of course loads of attractions within walking distance - the city walls are particularily nearby as is the excellent Castle museum.

Not neccesary to promote York as it's reputation for visitors is first class. The site, with it's usual CC quality amenities is located next to the Ouse and has been known to flood in extreme weather. However this is infrequent and the river walks on both sides are great with loads of walkers, joggers and cyclists.
There are two parts to the site, one of which has a few pitches located to the right of the main site entrance and is much quieter area than the main site itself. Most pitching areas are seperated by beech hedging although there are about six pitches which are close to a building and shaded by tall trees.
There is no official dog walk and visitors are requested to excersise their dogs off site with adequate disposal points along the riverside walks. The walk into town is a pleasant 15 minutes stroll from the camp. At the opposite end of the site near the motorhome service area there is a locked access gate, key provided, with a short two minutes walk up the back street to a variety of shops, take-aways,(great sandwich bar), and pubs.
The site is aptly named as it is immediately next door to Rowntree Park with childrens play areas, skateboard park, tennis courts, bowling greens, lake and cafeteria. It may be worth noting that although there is no through traffic past the site there are a considerable number of vistors in cars to the adjacent park.
It is advisable to book early to avoid disappointment as it is probably one of the most populat sites in the country accepting non - members from both the UK and foriegn visitors. As a last resort call the site reception who may have received a late cancellation.

This site is very popular throughout the year and consequently, you cannot "just turn up". It is situated on the banks of the River Ouse, adjacent to Rowntree Park. There is no car park or late arrivals area (although there maybe room for one unit in an emergency). The approach to the site needs to be taken with care, as you traverse a local street with residents cars parked. The last bit is very narrow with the consequence of timed arrival / departures as previously stated.
Tv reception is poor due to surrounding trees, although some pitches are better than others. The site is not really suitable for small children in my opinion, as the site roads are narrow and busy at times, although there is the Park next door with swings etc.
The site is a short easy walk from the centre of York. The local attractions include The Railway Museum, York Minster, various museums and The Jorvic Centre and, of course, the SHOPS. There are other themed attractions such as the accompanied GhostWalk and Viking week. There are lots of eateries in York. There is a big Tesco about 15 minutes (car) with most other well known Supermarkets available if required.
All of the pitches are hard standing and most will accommodate awnings. There is a separate section for tents (grassed). The site entrance barrier is controlled with an electronic "fob" which is given on book-in at reception. There is a "personnel gate at the back of the site that leads to the local shops (all requirements catered for), this gate is kept locked but campers are given a key(along with the toilet block key). The toilet block facilities are excellent, clean with ample supplies of hot water.
The wardens are efficient, pleasent and helpful. Caravanning items can be bought at reception.

July 2004 A word of warning for campers - space for tents is extremely limited. When we phoned we were told they can take a maximum of six small 2-man dome tents. Our 3-4 man tunnel tent was apparently unlikely to fit in. In addition, they do not take pre-bookings.
