It's a beautiful clean site and made all the more caring by Steve and Julie - Steve actually ran over our pre-allocated plot with the sit on mower so that we could pitch on short grass!

Used by Caravans and Tents alike with EHU if required.

The toilets are extremely clean, warm and well lit, with timers that trigger when you walk in and out but cleverly stay on when more than one person enters. It may seem strange that although they are unisex, I think they stayed cleaner! I also have the feeling that being unisex it helps families with children who need watching at toilet time. There are Cubicles with locking doors for just washing, Cubicles for toilet and Cubicles for showering with plenty of room to get dressed away from the wet area of the actual shower and with a fitted seat too! Refuse is partly recycled. There are areas for pot washing and plenty of hot water.

The site is not far from the beach - about a 10 minute walk, there is plenty of information from Julie at the reception for where to eat, where to get emergency doctors, dentist or opticians. There is part of a really nice hand pamphlet that Julie gives to the guests and it creates a feeling of organisation, giving info too on where to get free(charge free) withdrawals from cash points.

The surrounding area is dominated by the hills of Wasdale and it was mostly around that area and Wast Water that is where we spent daytime walking.

Our party was myself and my teenage son and two dogs but I did notice there were no children's playground and it is a site attached to a working farm, complete with mooing cows which may put some folk off.

Overall a great site, well drained in the rather wet time of Thursday night too. Nice sized field to exercise the dogs, They thoroughly enjoyed it too.

We first visited this site in 2008 when it was open for its first weekend for visitors, and again in July 2009. On both occasions we were extremely impressed with the site and the service provided by Julie and Steve.
The toilet block is unisex, but you soon get used to this. It has well designed showers with dressing areas and plenty of hooks for clothes etc. There are cubicles with washbasins, a hairdryer and hand-dryer and everything is included in the site fee. There is also a separate toilet in an adjacent building.
All facilities were always very clean and tidy. The reception area is open from about 9.00 a.M. To 9.00 p.M. And is well equipped with information about the area and a freezer for ice blocks. Julie also sells new laid eggs from the farm.
On both of our visits the people using the site were very friendly and there was no noise at night. Although there is no actual playground, there is plenty of room for children to play.

The site is ideally situated for walking in Wasdale, Ennerdale and Eskdale and is also near the coast and within easy reach of Muncaster Castle and Sellafield Visitors Centre.

There is a good convenience store in Gosforth, shops in Seafield and larger supermarkets in Whitehaven. There is a pub serving food about 1 mile away.

Overall this site is excellent and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Our next visit is planned for August this year.

My wife and I arrived on Friday evening almost too late to get food at the local Victoria hotel. Not only did Stephen ring the Victoria to book us a table, he also gave us a lift down there as soon as we had pitched our tent. This set the pattern for the weekend with owners Julia and Stephen doing everything they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible,

The site probably boasts the best campsite showers that we have come across – clean, roomy and with plenty of hot water all included in the price. Julie explained that they decided on a spacious unisex facility rather than separate cramped facilities for men and women; we think they made the right decision.

No shop on the site but free range eggs, laid by the 200 or so hens picking around in a nearby field, can be had from reception. Provisions can be obtained from the Mace minimarket in nearby Seascale. And the Victoria hotel serves excellent food and beer.

We would definitely visit this campsite again.

Just got back from a great weekend at Shepherds view. Julie + Stephen made us feel very welcome

From the minute we got there. The site was very quite when we arrived only 2 other tents and 3 caravans. After pitching the tent a nice hot shower was in order and we were not disappointed as the showers were spotless and lovely and warm.

As we settled in for the night we could here the Owls tooting, the kids thought that was 'way cool”. In the morning we took a short walk to the beach about 15mins away. In the afternoon we went over to Wasdale then called in for diner at the Victoria and can highly recommend the Steak and ale pie.

All in all we had a great relaxed weekend and would definitely go back. Also I would like to thank Stephen for getting our car started after the kids had been playing in the car and flattened the batterie.

We have just returned from a weekend visit to this site and we really enjoyed it there.

The site is easy to find and well located, and is only a short walk from two stations (Drigg and Seascale) on the Barrow- Carlisle rail route.

Pitch spaces are generous, some slightly sloping and the field is well maintained. The sandy soil made light work of putting in pegs and after a prolonged heavy rainstorm it drained immediately.

There is a second field, adjacent to the main camping field, for ball games, (although there was plenty of space for the children on the site to play in the main camping field this weekend) and there is a marked dog-walking area.

The facilities are new: spotlessly clean, warm, bright and spacious. All in all it's a very well thought out and well run site. Fantastic location for the Wasdale and Eskdale area of the Lakes and great beaches just across the way. There is also an interesting network of footpaths and bridleways right from the site.

We had problems on the first night from a group who arrived late and the noise from cars, shouting etc. Went on until 2am; well past the 11pm limit for keeping things quiet. Unfortunately we couldn't contact the owners at the time but when we mentioned it the next day they were decisive and quick to take action; the group members were contacted and told to leave.

We are reassured about contacting the owners out of hours (we should have been more persistent but didn't really want to make any more disturbance than there already was)

We didn't try eating out as it was good BBQ weather and we came prepared but there seems to be a good variety of local pubs and hotels serving meals. The folder in campsite reception (opening hours 9am- 10pm) gives detailed information and menus. In reception you can also buy fresh farm eggs and there is a freezer for campers' use.

There is a Chinese takeaway and a chippie in Seascale (3 mins by car) but we got a shock; the fish and chip shop does not open on Saturdays or Sundays at all! There is a well stocked Mace supermarket.

Dishwashing is outside which wasn't a problem in fine weather. And for those staying longer and wanting laundry facilities there are no washing machines or dryers.

This site is recently opened and Julie and Stephen are doing a great job; thank you, we'll be back!

We found this a really friendly site, the owners were really helpful and their children friendly and polite. The shower block was warm and really clean. The pitches were large with great views.
We walked to the beach at Drigg which is 10 minutes, there is also a lovely beach and playpark at Seascale which is only a couple of miles away. Seascale has a couple of grocery shops a pharmacy, chip shop, kebab shop and chinese Takeaway. We went to Whithaven which has a great harbour and everything you'd expect from a small town- supermarkets, swimming pool etc.
This was our first visit to the Western Lakes and we will definitely return to this site.

Myself, my partner and our dog along with our friend have just returned from a lovely 2 night stay at Shepherds Views. What a lovely site. Julie and Steven are lovely, friendly people.
The site is in a peaceful location, the facilities consist of a communal shower / toilet block which is nice and warm and always clean and the showers are the best I have ever come across in the 6 years I have been camping and hot water is included in the site fees which is excellent value.
The reception area is full of useful information including leaflets on local attractions as well as a list of local shop, medical centre, petrol station opening times and telephone numbers which is very useful. There are maps on the wall of reception giving details of nearby walks, rating their difficulty and the best weather conditions which we found really useful as we were using the site as a base for our walks.
There is a pub just down the road, a 5-10 minute walk called the Victoria and I would highly recommend it, the food is out of this world and is also dog friendly. The only thing I would suggest is to make sure you have plenty of supplies as the only shop nearby is a petrol station which is expensive and the nearest supermarket is around 6 miles away. If we had been staying longer than 2 nights this wouldn't have been a problem and we could have gone for all our supplies at the supermarket but was not worth the drive out for us. Although I am aware Julie and Steven are running a dairy farm as well as the site I think they would benefit from a little onsite shop.
However, overall this site is excellent and we will be visiting again in the future.

This was our first time camping with our children and it could not of been any easier. When we phoned up to enquire about the site we was told that all we had to do was turn up, otherwise phone if we wasn't. On arrival, we got welcomed by the owners, whose casual yet professional attitude made us feel like we had been there before.

After pitching, we settled down in front of the beautiful views that surrounded us and enjoyed the evening with our kids.

The following couple of days ensured to be very exciting and fun, and being in such a lovely location just heightened our experience. Whitehaven is just a 30 min drive away, with beautiful scenes and lots to do. Unfortunately we missed out on the local beach this time, but next time will make the walk down to sands, and maybe even Muncaster castle. But the thing that most made this trip so great (apart from warm, clean shower and toilet blocks) was how friendly to owners where, who regularly came through the fields to check on everyone, and also introduced their children to our own. They also sell fresh eggs in the reception area, free range half dozen for £1, which gets left in a tub.

If anyone was to be planning on holidaying in the West Lake district, then this is definitely a site that I would recommend. Everything rates highly from location to service. Being here for me was like reading an Famous Five book when I was a kid.

This site is well worth a visit, Stephen and Julie were very friendly and helpful, and have done a wonderful job of building a clean and friendly site.

The shower block was immaculate and cleaned every day, no messy grass stuck to your feet in the shower

Views of the hills were beautiful and a joy to wake up to every morning.

The beach is just down the road and there is a lovely park with free parking and toilet block.

Our children enjoyed being on this site, especially when julie asked if they would like to see the cows, this was the highlight of their stay, and her hens produce lovely creamy eggs for our breakfast.

Thanks for a lovely stay, we will be back in the future.

We struggled to get into any site in Cumbria over the Easter period and were lucky to get a call from the owners because of a cancellation. We usually go for the eastern / central parts of Cumbria as do the vast numbers of people I suspect.

We were pleasantly surprised by this site. The facilities were excellent, especially the shower block which is well thought out, warm, and spotless with good facilities (the owners are seasoned caravanner's it turns out).

With the right pitch, there are excellent views of the Western fells and the best of the lakes in the Vicinity (Wast Water voted UK's Favourite View (ITV) for starters). Whats more, Cumbria used to be a culinary desert but no longer with many established and respected chefs and this part is no exception with good local pubs and real ales. The Bridge at Santon Bridge is a must, but only after you have dined at the Victoria in Drigg, which sometimes is very quiet but it is friendly with good food (real chips!)and ales.

This part of Cumbria is deserved of the extra mile. It has good local walks and you can choose between a day at the seaside or a day in the fells. The coastal railway offers excellent coastal views and awesome estuary viaducts.

The owners were friendly and keen to ensure we were adequately provided for. Well worth a visit
