We keep returning to this site because it is friendly, clean and spacious. The pitches are well spaced and drain quickly - a very important feature this year!
The facilities are always spotless and warm. The recent addition of fire pits has added to the experience and prolongs our evening sitting around the warm fire.
We will be back again before the year is out to enjoy this unspoilt side of the lakes and the coast.

Ended up at Shepherds View by default - another story - and were greeted by Juile & Stephen who couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. A gem of a site on a working farm for camping and caravans (hard standing and grass pitches with hook up).
Spotless showers & loos, heated and with piped music too - a nice touch. Location brilliant for getting around the western Lakes and Cumbria.
Pub in village did excellent food and the nearby beach was huge and near deserted. Definitely one of the best sites we have ever stayed at. We will be back.

We spent a few days here last week just after the Jubilee Bank Holiday. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival and shown to our pitch. Despite the rain (more of which fell during the week) the ground was firm and not boggy.
The shower block was warm and spotlessly lean and there was always plenty of hot water whatever time of day we visited. The site was quiet and well maintained and the owners friendly and helpful.
The only addition we would have liked was laundry facilities due to the wet weather, as the children were going through clothes at a rate of knots!
This really isn't a criticism since we knew the site didn't have a laundry when we booked, but perhaps a suggestion for the future. There was a notice in the shower block informing guests that the owners hope to extend the block in the near future so perhaps more facilities will be added.
There is plenty to do in and around the area with a wide stretch of sandy beach just a few minutes walk away. This is a great base for exploring the Western Lakes, Wastwater is a short journey by car, Ravenglass and the 'Ratty' railway even closer.
Muncaster Castle with its Owl Sanctuary is close too. We would certainly consider staying at Shepherd's Views again next time we're in the Lake District.

We have just spent the jubilee weekend on this site and had a fantastic time, the campsite owners were really friendly, the site was well run, showers spotless at all times, lots of hot water for showering and washing up, free showers and use of a fridge in the office for campsite users as well as a good sized freezer for icepack freezing.
There are a few bits and pieces for sale in the office (eggs, charcoal, fire lighters) and a few small shops nearby, we went into Whitehaven for supplies which has a Tesco, Asda and Aldi, as we were arriving someone was getting their shopping delivered to the site by tesco online!
We had 4 tents (8 people + baby) around a campfire pitch which was enjoyed by all, wood was bought on site which was very handy and delivered to your tent door. There was ample room between us and the tents on either side so we didn’t feel overcrowded. We were in the lower field which is next to the road but it was very quiet and we weren’t disturbed at all. The ground was flat and the grass cut reasonably short.
We had days out in Whitehaven and Muncaster Castle enjoying the Jubilee events and took a trip into Seascale to the beach which is a stony beach so not great for sandcastles. We would definitely go back to this site if we were visiting this part of the lakes again and would highly recommend it to others.

We found Shepherds View by accident on our way back home from the Northern Lakes and liked it so much we booked our caravan onto a seasonal pitch.
The site provides the best of both worlds being located within walking distance of the beach and a very short drive to Wasdale and access to the mountains.
The site owners are very friendly and welcoming and the site is really well maintained, surrounded by fields and with good views of the nearby mountains. The toilet block is immaculate with free hot showers.
Our caravan pitch is level has plenty of room and is fully serviced. The caravan and awning is on a hard standing and each pitch has a large grassed area.
There is a pub within a 15 minute walk located alongside the local railway station which provides an alternative to driving and easy access to many of the coastal villages and towns, including Ravenglass where the steam railway to Eskdale begins.
We had never explored this side of the Lake District always tending to go to Keswich but in addition to fantastic walking there is lots more to see and do from castles to lovely coastal villages.

Four of us stayed here over the Easter weekend in 2 tents - it worked out at £33 a night for us all, so 16. 50 per 2 person tent.
The unisex toilet block is very warm and clean (the music piped in is a little odd!), showers are free and there's a hairdryer that you can use for £1 for 10 minutes. There was never really an issue with queueing for showers or toilets, even though there are only 3 of each.
The site is on a working farm and is divided into 2 fields, both of which are pretty flat. Even though it was quite rainy, the site didn't get muddy.
The location is quiet and fairly unremarkable - no good views to speak of (just fields) and no shops/pubs or anything in the area. You can buy locally produced eggs from the reception but you'd have to go to one of the nearby villages for anything else.
The site itself was very nice and quiet - there was a whole separate field for ball games which was good, and people were pretty quiet in the evenings.
The site asks for silence from 11pm-8am and the gates are closed at 10pm so you can't bring a car on site after this. The pitches were massive - our car, 3 man tent and 4 man tent fit on one pitch with tons of space to spare - so you never felt squeezed in.
The site allows campfires (only on certain pitches which are set up with a fire pit - aka a stone flag with an old wheel rim) and the owners go round several times a day with bags of wood that you can buy for £4.
Overall I have no bad things to say about this site - we really appreciated the campfires as it was pretty cold, and it was nice to have a warm toilet block to go to. The owners were extremely helpful & friendly and it was a peaceful site with plenty of space.

We have just returned from Shepherds View after staying there for the Easter Bank holiday and we have had a lovely weekend. The weather could have been kinder but the warm welcome from Stephen and Julie certainly made up for the cold. The shower and toilet blocks were immaculate, up to date and lovely and warm, the music was a great start to the morning along with a lovely warm shower! We were given a great pitch which included a fire pit but the choice of electric hook up was also available. We opted to stick with the fire pit as booked and brave the lovely British weather which was helped along by the large bags of wood which you could purchase from reception and were delivered to your pitch. We had two dogs and four children in our group and the large playing/ dog exercise field was brilliant for allowing children and dogs to run off any pent up energy whilst not disturbing any other campers. The pitches were more than generous as we had to large tents on our pitch space. This is a rural camp which we like but only 20mins down the road is Whitehaven where you can get all your camping supplies from any of the larger supermarkets.
On site Stephen and Julie offer those little touches which do help with your camping trip. Fresh eggs on site, freezer space to re freeze ice blocks or food and many others. Being a family with children the 10. 30pm noise curfew was great but this did not mean you could not still sit out and chat but noise was asked to be at a minimum. All in all this is a fantastic site and Stephen, Julie and family aim to make sure you have a great stay. After a chat with them about their future plans with the site IE: Wind turbine(which would be a brilliant addition to the site and great economy wise)we feel this site will just get better and better. We are without question returning as we have found a little gem in the country side. :)

We have just got back from a 3 night stay at Shepherds Views. This was our first stay at this site but it certainly won't be our last! Our first impressions of the site were really good.
A lovely tidy site, clean and well maintained. We were welcomed by Stephen and Julie who were lovely and welcoming, providing us with lots of information about the site and showing us to our pitch.
They were great throughout our stay, always friendly and helpful. We had a pitch with a fire and it was level and a good size.
The site wasn't hugely busy but we noted each pitch is given plenty of space and I got the feeling this would not be sacrificed even at busy times under the temptation of raking in more money, the emphasis is definitely on quality rather than quantity by what we saw.
There are 3 toilets and 3 showers and we did think the site could do with more but I believe this is already being considered. The facilities were kept extremely clean and I really liked the music that was played in the showers/toilet block. Nice touch!
We didn't use many local amenities. The Millets in Whitehaven after an airbed calamity and a couple of supermarkets. Whitehaven is a large town around 20 minutes away, easy to find and has a choice of supermarkets and shops.
There are closer shops which we didn't use on this occasion and the reception is full of information as are Julie and Stephen.
The bags of wood bought on site are a good size and are delivered to your pitch.
We will most definitely be returning here and hopefully with better weather than we had on this trip! However, even with wind and rain we had a fabulous time!

Basic site in Drigg, situated on a working farm about 3/4 mile to the north of the village.
Really nice fields with mostly level pitches, plenty of hookups and quite a few pitches with fire pits (as well as those without). Very welcoming owners and, with clearly stated rules, the site was secure, quiet and tidy.
Modern toilet block and outside potwashing (with roof and west facing wall).
We stayed there just after the August BH weekend and were surprised to see several portaloos distributed around the site. This was most likely due to the limited sanitary facilities. There are only two showers (free) and four toilets for the whole site. Bearing in mind there were probably about 50 pitches you can imagine it gets pretty busy down the toilet block way when the site is full. Even though there were only a few tents on site when we stayed there we still had to wait for a shower.
There were no specific facilities for kids (playground etc) but we had no problem with this. Our two make there own playgrounds. Others may feel this is a lack?
The owners were really friendly and made sure to come and see how we were faring, the grass was meticulous and everywhere was very clean and tidy all the time we were there.
So, in summary, a very tidy, well run site. Well situated for the western fells and coast, very close to Ravenglass and Muncaster.
However, the lack of sanitary facilities let it down - even with only a few folk on site we had to wait for showers.

Just spent Bank Holiday weekend at this site, was a 3 night minimum stay so made arrangements with Julie to drive up on the Friday night, we pre-warned we may be late which indeed we were but despite that both her and Stephen stayed around and waited for us.
We were shown to our pitch and given a list of the rules for the site and allowed to pitch up even though it was knocking on for half ten at night. In the morning we woke up to glorious views of the hills and after a quick trip to the showers (no queues when I went at 9 ish) we drove to Irton Pike and walked up over Whin Rigg and Illgill Head but sadly had to leave Scafell as the weather closed in.
The site is close to Wasdale so good access to the better side of the hills, it is quite exposed and at some points we did wonder if our tent would make it through the night but this added to the fun. Campfire pitches are a great idea especially when you can pre-order your fire wood to be delivered each day and at a very reasonable cost. Toilets and showers on site were very nice but have to say they had deteriorated in cleanliness by the time we left on the Monday but the site was rammed so would be difficult to keep on top of.
I would recommend this site to anyone and will definitely be back. The only things which could make this site better would be hotter water in the wash up area, a bigger shelf in the showers as my toiletries were squeezed, milk bread and newspapers on site and a few more lights. However, I got the impression that there is still work planned to improve the facilities so it wouldn't surprise me if the next time I go, the site has changed again. Oh and finally a notice board on the outside of reception with the weather forecast for the day would be a nice touch.
