We've just returned home after a fantastic stay at this site, the owners were so friendly and helpful, they really made our group feel welcome, the site is neither to small or to big. Just right! the toilets were very clean with free hot showers, we'd have preferred non unisex facilities but we soon got used to sharing! the portaloos were an added bonus, the washing up area was good, the drinking water stand was close by and as well as the rubbish bins there were recycling bins for all those beer and wine bottles! it was great to have a camp fire and as the owners were flexible, our group of four tents were able to camp in a circle around the fire pit. The cycle hire at the site proved to be a godsend when my 9 year olds own bike broke! the bikes were in excellent condition. The surrounding area is very quite, the nearest shops are about a mile away, the nearest big town is about 14 miles. The beaches were lovely, great for finding treasures!we will definitely be returning to this site next year. Thank you for making our stay so lovely.

I reviewed this site last year in August and this year the verdict is still the same - fantastic.
We love coming here - the owners and family are great - very friendly and welcoming.
After our stay here last year we went down to Devon and stopped on a site down there. All we got from the kids was - '. But it isn't as good as Shepherds Views. ' Annoying as it was after the long drive I have to admit that they were right. Once you have stopped at Shepherds Views it becomes the standard against which you judge every other site you visit. So far, for us at least, we haven't found anywhere else that measures up.
The kids love it. The beaches are big, quiet and stretch for miles. Beach fishing is apparently quite good - loads of worms if you don't mind digging your own bait. Sand dunes are great for exploring - but if like my Mrs you have no sense of direction - take a compass. Seascale has free parking, a nice beach and a great ice cream shop. To top it all off the fish were biting at Whitehaven and we nabbed a few mackerel off the pier using spinners and feathers.
Fire pits are now available at EHU sites, which is a change from last year and one we really appreciated. The pitches are big enough that the fire pits can be a nice safe distance from your tent. Wood, kindling, firelighters and matches are available at very reasonable prices on site. I was in my element - roaring fire, BBQ, bottle of cold beer - great. The kids toasted marshmallows late into the evenings.
Our all time favourite site.

Fabulous site. Having camped at many sites over the years all over the UK this is one of those sites that you just wish you could pick up and take to wherever you want to visit.
A very well kept site, large grassy pitches, fire pits, with logs delivered to your tent, immaculate showers etc. On our visit we were blessed with the site almost to ourselves as it was before most schools had broken up. It's very peaceful with beautiful sunsets. A short 15 minute walk to either the beach (turn right out of the site) or the local pub at Drigg (turn left). Seascale local shops and beach are only about five minutes drive and it's a great, safe beach for kids. The food at the local pub is top quality, as is the ale.
Friendly site owners, locals and publicans, coupled with a week of non stop sun made for a great week.
Just on the doorstep is the Revenglass and Eskdale railway, well worth a trip up into Eskdale and walk up onto the fells. Wasdale is about 20 minutes drive and stunning.
All in all one of my favourite parts of the lakes and unlike the more popular destinations you're not ripped off for parking, the roads are fairly empty and prices are not inflated.
We will most definitely return to this site.
The only downside I would mention is that the mountain views are in the distance so if that's what you want then this probably isn't for you and you may prefer one of the crowded, more expensive sites further into the lakes.

Friendly helpful site and staff. Washroom and toilets clean but I am sure the showers are communal. Hose point to wash down bikes etc. Fire pits (Old car wheels) add a nice touch. Road can be a little noisy but only occasional car. All in all nice site and will use again. Well placed for those on a coast to coast trip. Wood available to buy and only that wood is to be used on fires. Plenty of room to spread out.

It was a quiet weekend when we visited as the weather wasn't very good, but we still had a lovely relaxing time. The owners and their girls are lovely and really helpful. The site was so organised and the facilities are great and ideal for what we needed. It was great to have a campfire and space for the dog. The long beach was deserted and you can walk for miles. Hope to visit again! :)

Amazing owners, couldn't have been more helpful. Set in a flat landscape area, not set into hills or fells as it is near the coast.
Campfires allowed! in wheels provided and logs purchased on site.
Immaculate facilities, unisex a bit odd but ok. Loads of water points around the site, bin never full or overflowing. Immaculate EHU field, however after some recent rain the lower field with non EHU looked a bit boggy, ok once you drove through gate and across to other side. The ground is lovely to push pegs into, but you will need V pegs or rock pegs as this site does experience a lot of wind as we found when our tent buckled. It does appear that the owners have planted trees along boundaries which will help in time. Some road noise as road is only 100yards away. Beautiful beach at Seascale and St Bees both with playareas and icecreams etc.
Again I can't stress enough how nice & helpful the owners are and how clean the site was.
The only reason I might not return is that our tent isn't up to standing the wind there, such a shame as its a great location and lovely little site.

We have stayed at Shepherds view a few times now & have always thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Julie & Stephen are always friendly and helpful. The toilet / shower block is immaculate with quiet music playing, which is a nice touch.
Firewood, firelighters, windbreakers etc are available from the reception for a very reasonable price. There is also a freezer in reception to re-freeze ice packs etc.
Whitehaven is only a short drive away & the beach is within walking distance.
Overall a fantastic campsite situated in a stunning part of the country.
The only slight grumble we had was the road can be a bit annoying with cars passing throughout the night. This is only a slight annoyance & does not detract from a great camping experience!

We stayed at this camp site for two nights in August 2012 and I have to say what a wonderful site it is. From the minute we landed to the moment we left everything was as pleasant as it could ever be. The owners greeted us and showed us to the pitch and came over the following evening to ask how everything was going(nice touch). We were using the site as a base for fell walking which is 20 mins to half an hour away and for my wife to have some chill time. The site is very quiet and the ground is a must for putting pegs in. No mallet required. Showers are in with the price and the water is hot. The addition of use of a fridge freezer in office hours is excellent. We will be returning to this site again for sure. Top marks all round.

We have stopped at Shepherds Views for several years and keep coming back simply because it is excellent. I'm reluctant to write this review because ideally I'd like to keep this great site a secret and not share it with anyone else!
The owners are perhaps the most helpful people we have ever encountered whilst camping and nothing is too much trouble. We have seen a number of changes over the years and this site goes from strength to strength. We always have a pitch with an EHU (because camping isn't camping without a hairdryer and curlers and straighteners - never did quite understand the need for both of those, but being a bloke what would I know?). Open fires are not permitted on EHU pitches which meant we didn't have access to a fire pit but Stephen and Julie allowed us to use one on an unoccupied pitch, so I was able to indulge the male primal need for an open flame and the kids got to toast marshmallows. Great fun.
We saw the new camping pods being delivered and had a good nosey around one of them. They look great and would be an ideal for those looking for an intro to camping (or those who can't be bothered with a tent!).
Although we didn't hire any I asked Stephen if I could have a look at the hire bikes and they are all good quality machines including a tandem and trailer bikes, a tow along trailer and adults and kids bikes.
As usual the toilet block was spotlessly clean (as was the rest of the site).
The local area is great - wide open beaches, the Lakes (and the hills) at your door. My only moan would be the fishing off Whitehaven Pier wasn't very productive - and that is why they call it fishing and not catching!
Thanks for yet another great stay. See you again soon.

Just back from a week at shepherds views, what a week. Fantastic weather, stunning scenery, beautiful! this campsite is immaculate, grass nicely mown, pitches only slightly slanty. Unisex toilet block, mmm novel, actually feel normal having a shower together, lovely and clean at all times although could be a bit small if campsite is full but not over full while we were there so no problems. Owners have to be the friendliest we have ever encountered, absolutely lovely, friendly, helpful, chatty, nothing is too much trouble. Would definitely recommend this site
