We found this lovely site by chance and were one of the first families to stay there. We found the owners Julie and Stephen to be friendly and helpful and always happy to offer advice on the local attractions and facilities. The site itself was very clean and the toilet block and showers were immaculate and there was a large disabled shower and toilet. The pitches were nice and big and there was plenty of room for our large tent and gazebo. The facilities for washing dishes were adequate. There was plenty of room for my two energetic boys to run around and the views of the hills were beautiful.
There is a lovely beach and playground not too far from the site as well as a local shop that provides all you need. Unfortunately we didn't get to see much of the local attractions as we used this site as a base for visiting the lakes which are all within driving distance, but we will put that right in 2009 when we return for a longer stay, we may even stay in one of the new cottages that they are hoping to have ready for the new season.
Although it is a working farm there isn't much noise or smell and as already said free range eggs are available on site.
All in all it is a nice peaceful site with very friendly owners and we will be visiting again.

We visited the site when recently opened and mostly had the place to ourselves, probably because it's not yet known about. We were really pleased with the facilities and friendliness of the owners, as mentioned by the previous reviewer. We were on a super pitch with hardstanding, hook up, and water, which was very roomy, and well spaced from the adjoining pitches. The pot wash is outside and could do with some sort of roof over it, but the owner said they would do this next year. It is a good base for visiting the western fells, especially with a caravan, as understandably many sites only take tents and campervans due to the narrow roads. The site is within 20-30mins drive of Wastwater, plus a 10-15min walk to the beach, so you have the best of both worlds. Sellafield nuclear power station, plus a nuclear waste dump are very close, which some may not be happy with, but are a routine part of life there. Seafield is a 5 minute drive away and the Mace there was well stocked, as was the pharmacy, which surprisingly also stocked lovely fresh fruit and veg. The Chinese take-away was excellent and very reasonably priced. We are going back for a long week-end shortly as we enjoyed it so much.

As everyone can tell by my user name I love this part of the country & stumbled on this new camp site by accident. Six adults: me, my husband, 2 grown up children + partners in a Pennine Pathfinder FC for 3 nights (& not forgetting the dog).
The site is part of a working dairy farm.
It has been well thought out by the owners Stephen & Julie who are very friendly & helpful.Nothing was too much trouble.
Very efficient at meeting & greeting in a new modern reception area.A printed sheet with all the useful telephone numbers of local services & information on local shops & pubs opening hours was provided.
The new modern unisex toilet block provided ample large shower & washing facilities including a very large disabled cubicle with the relevent grab rails, lowered sink etc, suberb for wheelchair users. Hairdrier, hand drier & antibacterial soap was provided. The facilities were cleaned everyday & were immaculate considering the unkind weather we had. There is also a quirky original toilet which has been refurbished in part of the farm wall.
There were 3 pot washing sinks with drainers providing hot & cold water. 1 chemical toilet disposal area, ample drinking water taps & rubbish bins.
We were in a small hook-up area adjacent to the reception, in this area there are 3 hard standings fully serviced with hook ups & water with grassed areas for further tents or campervans & additional hook ups. The road up to this area is highly compressed tarmac scrapings & is very stable with pretty flower pots dotted along.
Adjacent to the road is a large grassed gently sloping field which was loosely divided into 3 areas which are a dog walking area with a mown rectangular path, a games area with a mown central playing section & a mown tenting area with well spaced pitches identified by markers. Lovely views across the fields towards Drigg beach.
Fresh Free range eggs can be purchased, provided by Julie's hens which can been seen scratching away in a field on the opposite side of the farm.
Farm smells were minimal & scarcely noticeable.
One car can be parked alongside the pitch weather permitting, extra cars can be parked in an area about 50 metres away.
The friendly local Victoria pub in Drigg next to the West coast mainline train station is within walking distance (approx just under a mile).
The Lutwidge Arms at Holmrook is well worth a visit, good food served either in the restaurant area or in the bar. I recommend booking in advance if possible.
Ravenglass is a quaint little coastal village approx 3 miles away with 2 pubs, The Ratty which serves good food, again it can get extremely busy so booking recomended & The Holly house which overlooks the harbour estuary serves a good pint. Muncaster Castle is just up the hill,Muncaster Mill is on the route of the famous 'L'al Ratty' miniature railway which runs between Ravenglass & Eskdale green. Crabbing under & on the footbridge which runs alongside the railway over the tidal river is very popular with children & adults alike.
Local shops are fairly scarce.A Garage shop (Mace)on the road to Ravenglass is open till late & is well stocked. There is also a Mace in Seascale.
Whitehaven is well worth a visit to stock up with supplies & have a wander around the shops & harbour. Yummy Fish & chip shop near the Quayside.
Sadly the weather was very wetting & on one occasion even wetter still when assisted by a farmer's hosepipe! :o).
A good time was had by all.
Well worth a visit, we will be going again.
