We have just arrived home from an excellent 3 day stay at Shepherds View and were really sad to leave. We found the site easily. Once off the main road there are a few signs for the campsite dotted en route so you know you are on the right track. On arrival Julie and Stephen were really helpful giving us a full rundown of the site facilities and a handout containing details of all local facilities you could need. We were shown to our pitch and left to our own devices.

The unisex shower block was immaculate. Music played in the block through the day, novel idea and you couldn't help but sing along. The showers were lovely and hot just what you need after a hard days walking.

Reception was open 9 to 9 and although not always manned, Julie had given us a contact number in case we needed anything. Reception had various leaflets of surrounding attractions and a folder of info on local amenities and local pubs and restaurant menus and reviews.

The site is well equipped for families and adults alike and there were lots of campers with dogs.

The views from the campsite were amazing to wake up to every morning.

When campsite filled up we were worried noise levels would rise but this never happened. All campers adhered to the 10 30pm curfew. We visited the Victoria pub about 15 min walk away. Lovely unspoiled local ale house

Serving excellent beers and quality pub grub.

We would have no hesitation recommending this site to anyone. We are already planning our next visit

We have just spent a lovely two weeks at Shepherds Views which is a traditional site adjacent to a working dairy farm. There's a camping field divided into three areas, with

Electric hook-ups in one part, facilities for campfires in another section with the rest

Available for units requiring neither. A smaller caravan field looked like it had both hard

And grass pitches.

Other facilities on site are a unisex toilet block, a site office, a large dog walking /

Games field and a bicycle hire service.

The site is run by Stephen and Julie who couldn't be more helpful and who really went to a

Lot of effort to add value to our visit. We arrived with car problems and they immediately

Recommended a local garage who sorted things out for us. The site office is open throughout the day and contains lots of local information, has a freezer for freezing cool-box packs and sells a few bits & pieces like fresh eggs from the farm and charcoal and firewood.

Whilst the office isn't always manned, Stephen and Julie are always around if you need them, often to be found keeping the site clean and tidy and they do regular walkarounds in the evenings checking that everything's going well with your stay.

The toilet block seemed to get a good clean at least once or twice a day and Stephen goes round on his mower every day or so keeping the grass neat.

The local area is picturesque with the fells in the distance - one particularly nice feature of the site is the skyscape overhead which delivers great sunrises / sunsets and fields of stars on a clear night.

The small seaside town of Seascale is about a mile and a half away where you can get provisions, fish & chips, ice-cream / cream teas and there's a butcher and pharmacy. It's a nice stroll down there along the beach if you'd prefer to walk than drive.

The harbour town of Whitehaven is about fifteen miles away which is where the larger stores and supermarkets are located.

One local attraction we visited is the miniature steam railway a few miles from the site at Ravenglass. I'd also recommend a trip of about ten miles out from Shepherds Views to Wasdale Head at the foot of Scafell Pike which is absolutely stunning.

Overall, this is a great site with plenty of space ideal for relaxing, playing games with the family or as a base from which to explore the local area on foot, by bike or in the car.

We have visited this site several times since it first opened, the last time being in 2011. The plus points of the site is that it is rarely full and is conveniently close to Seascale with it’s beach, convenience store and fantastic butchers shop. Wasdale is about 25 mins drive away.

On the down side, the field for tents, although sloping does not drain well in wet weather and gets very soggy in places - indeed the last time we visited our tent was sinking after a few days. Cars were not allowed on it the due to the mud and it was quite a trek for some with their camping gear. The best drained area is reserved for caravans and EHU The unisex toilet/shower block, although to a high standard, is inadequate at busier times with long waits for the shower etc.

The site is attached to a dairy farm and whilst you expect some country smells, when the wind is in the wrong direction, the sometimes overwhelming smell from the cow sheds is not great when you are having a BBQ! You may notice it’s very close to the Sellafield Low Level Waste storage area but it is well hidden and the noise is minimal.

The owners have always been friendly to us, however the last time we visited two friends of ours who had booked to stay with us along with a few other from our walking club were delayed due to heavy traffic and before arriving had a bite to eat at a nearby pub. The owner took exception to their unauthorised late arrival (i. E. Just after after 9pm) and refused to let them camp (even though they had paid). They were forced to stay at a B&B and the went over to a site at Santon Bridge. We were all apalled and due to this experience and also the poorly drained ground we avoid the site now.

On arrival we were made very welcome and given a very useful facts sheet giving us information about local shops etc and also useful emergency data about doctors etc. A nice touch that.

We were shown to our pitch, hardstanding on chippings with our own tap & electric post nearby. The toilet and shower block was unisex but spotlessly kept and very nice indeed. Showers were free also.

We really enjoyed our stay on site and were also very lucky with the weather. Sadly didn't spot the barn owl during our stay.

We were very impressed with the site and its location. If you want a pleasant and quiet site you won't need to look further than this one. Mags & I would gladly recommend it to anyone. You would need to be very 'picky' not to like it here.

We have just come back from a four day stay at this campsite and it was great. you couldn't ask for better staff always there to help if you have any questions or queries, very friendly people who would go the extra mile, in fact once we had settled in they came to us to see if we found everything alright and if we needed anything, which I thought was a very nice personal touch as most campsites wouldn't do that.

Toilet and shower facilities were kept very clean and stocked up with toilet roll and handwash etc at all times.

The nearest supermarkets were in whitehaven which is about 20mins in the car which was fine as it means you are away from all the hustle and bustle of busy shops, but not to far away if you need anything.

There is a pub (the victoria inn, I think) which is in walking distance of the campsite, very handy if you fancy a few drinks or going out for a quick bite to eat!

This campsite is also in a very good location if you are thinking of doing Scafell Pike, which we did, its approximately 10mins in the car.

I would definitely recommend this campsite to anyone who asked about it and would definitely be visiting again, in fact I think we are going again this month!

We sited our caravan from August to October, site is lovely and clean. Toilet and showers are exceptionally clean. Julie and Stephen couldn't do enough for us, when we first sited the van it poured with rain and water came in our awning next day Stephen came round and while we were out made the pitch level, another occasion when it got very windy they took down our awning to save any damage then put it back up,before we returned. This is above and beyond any expectations.

The camping field is very big but they do not allow over crowding ensuring everyone has their own space. The site has lovely views is great for both families and walkers. Its an ideal location for West lakes:- Ennerdale Water is brilliant for canoeing, and its only about a 15min drive to Wasdale head,

There's a games field for children away from the tents and caravans. Although there isn't a shop on site Seascale is only 5min away and has everything you need inc chippy.

The bigger supermarkets are only 15 drive away. There's a pub/ eating place within walking distance. Would definitely recommend this site.

Really enjoyed this site, very, very clean and well maintained - the unisex block works well although I think with 3 toilets and 3 showers for 50 pitches would get rammed when site is full (there were between 4-6 pitches in use when we were there).

The view from the camp is certainly nice enough, although the immediate surrounding area is not so beautiful really, Sellafield is on the horizon, but this is a great launch pad for Wast Water and Ennerdale Lakes.

Only the motorhome/caravan area has marked sites, the rest is open field.

We will be going back for sure, the owners were very pleasant and have done a fantastic job here.

We arrived at very short notice for a bank holiday weekend in August 2010, we were a little unsure on arrival as there was a sign saying campsite full. We were quite shocked as it looked empty, all tents where around the outside and there was a huge space in the middle where children were playing. Susan and her husband was very accommodating and telephoned around the local restaurant to book us a table for our evening meal.

Every assistance was offered. It looks like the campsite is part of a working farm.

The shower/toilet block was mixed there was a wait for the shower, however it was still hot!

Really enjoyed our very short but sweet visit and would definitely recommend people to go there.

They even have cottages to rent too, they looked beautiful.

This was a lovely basic site, nothing fancy just very clean, well kept and friendly. Somewhere I will return to and would certainly recommend.

The pitches were excellent, and no extra charge for having a 'large' tent! Did have problem with the wind as the site is quite open but my tent survived as did we - the gazebo didn't which was my fault for leaving it up! The weather is not under the control of the site, but on lovely sunny or even less windy days a lovely place to just relax.

The toilet\shower block was unisex but this was not a problem as there were cubicles for the sinks and showers with plenty of space for getting dressed etc. It was better to have the one big space than two very small single sex spaces. Before we left I did notice the owner had arranged for some portable loo's on site, well spaced out around the site, as he was expecting a lot of visitors for the bank holiday which I thought was a lovely touch and showed he was thinking of his visitors comforts.

There is no children's play area but one very large field for ball games plus plenty of space for running around. You can also be entertained watching the cows wander past as they return to the fields after milking or to see the calves in the shed. There are even free range chickens.

There is plenty to see and do in the area, recommend Seascale beach for messing around on, Ravenglass for the narrow guage railway and Muncaster for the Owls and gardens. Plenty of other lovely days out as well.

Once again, excellent site with lovely owners, highly recommend a visit.

Sited vans from beginning of August until the end of October. Owners Steven and Julie couldn't have made us feel more welcome, Spacious pitches with hardstanding, electric and water point.

Separate camping fields with loads of room for kids to play Modern heated toilet and shower block Fantastic Site.

No Shop on site but shops and takaways approx. One mile away in Seascale, also a choice of pubs offering good food at reasonable prices.

Superb location for exploring the Western fells and coast.
