My partner and I went on a 3 night camping trip and decided to try Shamba Holiday's.

When we arrived we were greeted with a smile & very helpful staff who showed us where to set up tent.

Looking around the site, every pitch had electric hookups & drinking water close by.

The facilities were better than what we expected, they were immaculate! The toilets/shower rooms were extremely clean. I'm sure you could find hotels/bed & breakfasts with much worse toilet/showering facilities. They also have baby changing facilities in the Ladies & the Gent's.

There are 2 indoor heated swimming pools, a very small shallow children's pool & a larger one for the adults. Both are quite warm especially when the sun has been shining on them. Another facility that was spotless.

Family changing rooms with toilet & shower were in the same building as the pool & they provide plastic boxes to place your belongings in and to keep by the pool.

There's also a games room which we didn't go into but did have a look inside. There was a pool table & a football table and what looked to be some arcade games.

The clubhouse is well laid out, small bar, plenty of seating & very clean. Polite bar staff & kitchen staff is also a bonus.

Didn't really have a look at the park as we don't have children so there wasn't much need. But from what we saw of it, it looked good.

There's also a laundrette & washing up facilities located on site between the toilets.

The onsite shop was possibly the only slight let down. When looking around for something to eat/cook there wasn't a great choice but it did have other essentials like spare tent pegs, wind breaks & some swimming equipment.

All in all the site, the staff & the facilities were much more than what either of us had expected.

I think I'd give the site a 10/10 for it's cleanliness.

The staff 10/10 for customer service.

And a 10/10 for the facilities.

Highly recommended & are thinking of going back in the summer!

Excellent site, they are a bit strict on placement of car and tent and orientation of tent, so that of the three pitches our party had booked, we were all facing away from each other as we had to face the road !

Having said that the facilities are excellent, clubhouse food an bar was good value. Toilets are immaculate, heated floors meant that when it got cold Saturday night we considered sleeping in there !

Pool was nice and warm with the cover over, with a nice terrace outside the bar area.

Shop had the essentials (and chocolate)

There were always staff visible around the site, even performing night patrols to keep people to the 'all quiet by 11pm rule'.

They charge extra for a gazebo which is quite unusual as we paid for one and then never used it as it was a nice evening.

All in all an excellent site with good family facilities and we will definitely consider visiting again, but next time make sure that the pitches booked are either side of the road at the end of the field, then we can face each other.

Just got back from 3 lovely days at Shamba

The toilet & shower block was immaculate, modern, warm and had piped music. We also used the family bathroom to bath the kids which had a lovely roll top bath and great baby changing facilities

We also used the pool which was nice and warm

My only moans were:

- they were very particular about where you pitched your tent

- the staff weren't happy that we booked with 4 other families, apparently they don't normally allow large groups

- had an 11pm curfew on noise which included talking

So I probably wouldn't return to Shamba as they were sticklers for 'the rules' which did spoil our fun a bit

Visited this site august 24 2008,family of 6 ,had 2 pitches.

Toilet/shower block was spotlessly clean with adiquate basins and showers.

Club house small but adequate and friendly.

Main fault with this site is that the pitches are very closed together right to the edge of the car track through the site.

Swimming pool very small but clean.

Turning left into the site off the dual carriage way is very dangerous as it is directly after a roundabout with no warnings on the roundabout of the immediate turn.

Good site for visiting Poole, Bournemouth and New Forest.

No local pubs or restaurants to walk to for a drink or meal.

Just got back from a weekend here. What a lovely site! On arrival, we were escorted to our pitch which was clean and level. Water points are close to all pitches. The facilities (showers, toilets, washing up area, pool, etc) I have to say, are the cleanest (and warmest) I have come across. They even had a radio station playing quietly in these areas making it feel homely. The play park was great for the kids. There is no lifeguard at the pool, but you need a code to enter everywhere making it safer for the kids. The pool was lovely and warm. I suppose my only small negative points are that my tent pegs did have a habit of coming out in the wind because the ground is soft at the surface, but this would be OK if I had bought longer pegs. My only other point is that you have to pitch your tent in a certain way and this meant I couldn't pitch it as close to our friends as we would have liked. This site would be no good for us for longer than a weekend as it doesn't have any evening entertainment, but it does have a games room and bar/restaurant (although we didn't use it).

Overall this site is PERFECT for a weekend away and I would definitely use it again.

We went to Shamba campsite as first time campers and to be honest I was amazed. The site was so clean and tidy, in fact spotless. My kids and the rest of my party really enjoyed ourselves and think now that Camping is the way to go.
Definately enough on the site to keep the kids entertained (park and swimming pool) but all they done was to ride their bikes! the only downside was our pitch (7 and 8) we was under a big oak tree and didn't get any sun and the pigeons kept us awake at night! However, I don't see that as a reflection on the campsite.
The shop is well stocked and relatively cheap as well - there is a big sainsbury's just up the road. The site was great and very very clean. We will go back again and again.

We have just got back from Shamba after a 3 night stay.

On arrival the Warden showed us to our pitch. Our pitch also had electric hook up and water tap.

The club area did great food, £3 for a kids meal and £5 for an adult which I thought was very reasonable. The menu wasn't huge but adequate.

Very helpful and friendly staff.

Everywhere was spotless.

Great play area for the kids. My daughter loved the trampoline. Also the warden asked all the children to leave the park at 9 pm so at least people pitched nearby would find it quieter!

The onsite shop was small but sold the essentials.

The road was quite bumpy on the way to the site and it wasn't the most scenic of views because you passed what looked like a scrap yard.

We were a bit disappointed with the swimming pool, it was quite small and it was very busy, also they don't employ a lifeguard so kids were left to their own devises. They also seemed to allow ball games in the pool but the pool really isn't big enough.

We used the family changing room but the whole room flooded, also the tiles were extremely slippery. When I commented on the slippery floor to the cleaner I was told it was because people don't mop the floor. Unfortunately this would have made no difference. They need more anti slip mats.

My 5 year old liked the low basins, at last somewhere she could wash her hands without me having to lift her!

I would just like to add the site was near enough full but there was never any waiting times for toilets, showers or the club and the staff seemed to work extremely hard in keeping the site clean.

We will return if we are in the area.

Lovely toilet block through to swimming pool in conservatory really warm and clean. Lovely family room.

Play ground good. We took a two and three year old and swam twice a day very clean and lovely.

Site is situated on the dual carriage way so if you want to leave the site you need to drive.

Definitely will go back

Just arrived home from Shamba, after a 2 week stay.

The site was quite small, with fantastic and very well designed facilities.
The toilet block was brilliant, with a variety of options for cubicle type e.G. Just a shower, toilet and basin, toilet, basin and shower, ideal if you have smaller kids and need them contained while you get yourself ready. There was a combination lock on the doors to the toilet which was a good idea, and meant that children had to be accompanied by an adult at all times.
The pool was situated in the centre of the block of facilities and was very safe, again with a combination to get in and a cover for the colder days. I also took the opportunity to book my kids in for an intensive swimming course and some private lessons. I cannot fault the instructors who helped my son overcome a fear of the water and both kids were awarded badges (this was all offered by Aquaducks) I don't know if they offer this all the time, but I found it invaluable! and strongly recommend it. The campsite staff all offered my kids words of encouragement concerning their swimming.
The play park was safe and had a lovely selection of toys and climbing equipment, however it did not close until dusk, and as our tent was situated in close proximity, forget an early night for the kids - we just gave in in the end and let the kids stay up until dusk. Ordinarily this would have been fine, however the staff are very quick to quieten down adults at 11.00pm and the curfew is very strict, therefore us adults had about an hour after the kids had gone to bed, and I often felt a bit naughty if I had stayed up later chatting!
The shop was tiny, and I felt could have been stocked better, it did have some essentials but I felt it sold a better selection of sweets.
The bar was more for families having a meal than a social club, which I didn't mind, it felt very homely.
The pitches were very close together, with only a line separating them, but they were well drained due to the sandy nature of the soil. (Make sure kids have shoes on at all times, the soil will make them filthy).
I believe all the pitches had electric hook-up, and there was never a tap very far from any pitch.
The surrounding area is lovely, with loads to do, check out Shamba's own website for local attractions. We took the kids to Monkey World, which I would advise against if you have tired children (it is set on a huge site, the enclosures were big therefore actually seeing a monkey was a miracle and we ended carrying our children back).
Swanage is lovely for fishing off the pier, fish and chips and the beach, but the car park was very expensive, and I would advise driving around, rather than getting the ferry as the queue can be long.
The reptile park was about ten minutes away from the campsite and was very enjoyable.
Overall we had a lovely couple of weeks, and would go back again next year, I would perhaps ask for a pitch further away from the play area (we were on pitch 100).

Just returned from a fab week. Really loved this site.
The pitches are tight and you do feel a bit on top of each other. We had great neighbours! but if not just invest in a couple of windbreaks for some privacy.
Our girls loved the pool, had a job getting them out. The play park was lovely, in fact it all was.
Toilets, showers, the staff, the pub, the meals etc.
If you have children, Fordingbridge is well worth a visit. Lovely river to paddle in, also park,l sand pit and small paddling pool.

A small gripe is they don't have a late arrivals park. We travelled from the north through the night, so had to park in Sainsburys then wonder round till we could get on site at 12.
We never heard the noise from A31, but got a bit sick of traffic jams everytime we ventured out.
This would not stop us, would love to go back to this site.
