August 2004 We just got home today from a lovely 2 week holiday here. First impressions were a warm and friendly welcome, we were showed to our pitch which was right next to the play area, as we had asked for. We were a lot closer to it than we thought we would be but wouldn't have wanted it any other way, it made the holiday so much more relaxing knowing the children were in sight at all times when they were playing. The play area was good and well equipped with a slide, climbing frame, monkey bars, seesaw, swings and a large sandpit, which did make the kids rather messy at times. The pitches were very well sized, level and had really good drainage. The outdoor pool was brilliant, the kids loved it, went in everyday. It was warm, clean and not too deep. The shop was basic but very reasonably priced. The take away had a small menu selection but was adequate. It was priced very reasonably and the food was good too. We did not find this to be a noisy site, even though its not far from the main A31 and the traffic was constant, it sounded a bit like a distant hum. The only thing we would say was a bit of a nuisance, was because it was situated off the A31, when going out, depending which way you were going, you had to go down the road to the round-a-bout to double back on yourselves. All in all we had a really great holiday and would recommend this site to anyone. We loved it so much we are considering going back next year but for 3 weeks not 2. Great value for money.

July 2004 The road up to the site from the dual carraigeway is a bit rough and narrow in places and not very pretty. Very friendly wardens, who are always around somewhere on the site. We felt very safe with the children there. We had a pitch next to the park which was great in the day but was a bit noisy until about 11pm most nights, with the older kids. It was a lovely sunny week so the outdoor pool was a great boon, it was clean and well maintained. The park itself was clean and well run, nice sized pitches. The toilets and showers were a bit dated, but the water was always hot and there are plenty of showers to use. Not the biggest or most modern site ever, but,we would use it again.

June2004 We found the pitches to be level & a good size and well laid out with free electricity (if you wanted it) and tap to each pitch. The toilet, shower facilites were a little dated but kept spotlessly clean. There was a good play area with the spongy floor and sand for safety. My little one loved the huge sand pit. There was a bar, takeaway and small amusement arcade also on site which we did not use so can't comment on them. The pool however was lovely. At long last we found a heated pool that actually felt heated. There was also a small toddler, splash pool that was closed at the time of our stay. There is a shop on site that seemed to sell a wide range of goods including a few camping bits and bobs. All this cost just £11 per night for a family of 4. Excellent value for money. We may return 1 day.

June 2004 Stayed for 3 nts,Sat,Sun,Mon. Nice big pitches and well organised layout. The shower facilities could do with an upgrade as they are a bit dirty and old and there are only 5 showers in all (mens) and 5 for the ladies, I can see this being a bit of a problem in high season. The shop is adequate and sells only the bare essentials really , but there is a large Sainsbury just down the road, so this isn't really a problem. The site is very well located and is only 20 mins from Bournemouth and 15 mins from the new forest. One major criticism I have is that if you are staying in a tent, then the sound of the nearby road is very distracting, it is a busy road and the constant traffic noise is very loud when you are trying to sleep. We went on the hottest weekend of the year to date and I have to say the pool was a godsend, clean and very refreshing. All in all a nice "no frills" campsite, would recommend for a couple of nights.

June 2004 First the good stuff. Level pitches of reasonable size. All seem to have electric. Reasonable size heated and fenced outdoor swimming pool. Free showers, which although dated, do have separate area to keep your clothes dry. Amazing Pink bathroom too with chairs and mirrors! Warden shows you to pitch.
Not so good. The A31. To their credit the owners do mention this in their literature, however I hadn't realised that this is a main dual carriageway and certainly in a tent the noise is constant. There is a play area with equipment and space to play football, but when we arrived the site was very full and there was no where else that smaller children could play close to the tents. The site did feel cramped but was very busy. If it was less busy I doubt this would be a problem.
I would say that the field with the play area would be the prettier option. The one nearer the road has clear views over the neighbouring reclamation yard. There are also pylons running along one edge of this field. Very strict rules to leave at 11.00 am (even though available space by then). In this first field there are lots of water taps but in the middle of the field with pitches all around them so we had to walk through other peoples pitches to get to the water. Again I doubt this would be a problem if the site hadn't been so full.

October 2002 This is an excellent campsite! My husband and I chose this campsite initially because it was close to relatives, but we were very pleased that we did. The pitches are level and of a very good size. Nearly all of them have electrical hookup and a water pipe. The owners are great, really very friendly. The shop is well stocked and with other shops just down the road it is a good location. The pool looked clean and good (was not open when we visited). The toilets were basic but very clean and looked after.
All in all, if you are looking for a quieter campsite then I would really recommend it.

June 2002 We stopped off here for an overnighter on a Friday night. Very friendly, welcoming and accomodating. Good, spacious pitches and plenty of electricity and water points. As previously mentioned, showers and toilets were clean and functional and the on-site bar was welcome with the rain we had at that time. The area is quiet despite being close to the main road ( except for the Owls at 3a.m !!) and there is a nice bar/restaurant just along the road which allows kids till 21:00. A short hike up the road and over the footbridge brings you to Herne Forest which is a great walk for kids and dogs. Worth a visit, even if only to see the owners shirts!!

May 2002 We have just returned from a bank holiday weekend at Shamba. This was our first time out with a tent and as "virgin campers" were a little wary of what to expect. I'm pleased to say it was a huge success - the park was more than we'd hoped for, drainage was good, play facilities were more than adequate for our 8 and 6 year olds, the swimming pool was heated and well fenced off. I was impressed by the cleanliness and number of showers/toilets - although they are a little outdated. The shop wasn't huge but stocked exactly what we wanted, even down to a pair of shoelaces and the forgotten toothbrush! The takeway was adequate and reasonably priced as was the bar. All in all we were delighted, especially by the friendliness/helpfulness of the owners. The charges for pitching were also impressive for the area which has a lot to offer for all tastes and ages.

We visited Shamba over the Spring Bank Holiday 2000. When I rang to make a booking for 3 tents I was told it was a minimum of 4 nights as it was the Bank Holiday weekend. We only wanted 3 nights and the owner was very obliging and let me book that.
We arrived on the Friday night after a 3-hour journey - which should have taken just over an hour and a half - probably not a good idea to travel in the rush hour just before a Bank Holiday weekend! We were shown to our pitches, all level and marked out and next to each other as requested, on a quiet area of the site, again as requested. The owner told us that we had been put on the driest part of the park, oh yeah I thought I'll bet that's what you tell everyone. He was right though, after a deluge of rain the ground was barely damp - hoorah for excellent drainage.
We had a meal in the bar, which was cosy but could have done with a lick of paint. The food was good - the usual burgers/chicken/jacket potatoes etc. and chips with everything. There is a shop on site - for essentials, but if you want to stock up try the large Sainsburys down the road (head west on the A31 and you'll reach it after a couple of miles).
The ladies toilets/showers are adequate with a separate shower block containing 5 showers which looks fairly new, all with free hot water and push button controls, although the site was full up I didn't have to queue too long. The toilet block is a bit jaded but is clean and it does contain the best shower (no push button controls and you can adjust the temperature).
For the kids there is an outdoor pool, Play Park with swings etc. and a field.
Although the site could do with a bit of updating I would definitely recommend it if you want somewhere fairly quiet. What the site lacks in sparkle the owners definitely make up with helpfulness/friendliness.
