This was our first visit to watermouth, having read previous reviews I was sure we had picked the right site. The scenery is beautiful!! Our only real problem was the weather, prior to our arrival, Devon had obviously seen some rain, and during our stay, we also had our fair share, which in turn turns the site into a bog. Obviously, at this time of the year most of the onsite features were closed, so cannot comment, the showers were brilliant, although there was a problem with leaking roofs in both the ladies and the gents. Also cannot comment on the owners, as we never met them, our payment for the week was taken by their daughter. Would visit again, but at a drier period. Combe Martin is only 2 miles away as is Ilfracombe, both lovely villages to visit.

Visited during school holidays. Pitch size good although had to manoeuve the car in and out carefully. Our two young children especially enjoyed exploring the rocky cove. Pub on site good and small shop, friendly staff. Facilities block was clean but could do with updating and showers were too hot for my children to go under (4 and 5). Excellent base for touring North Devon and has lovely views of Watermouth Castle.

Nice, tidy, well kept site, great views from the harbour and cliffs, friendly staff. The children's play area, harbour, beach, and the small arcade kept the kids happy. (8-13 years) The mains hook-up failed once, - a breaker tripped cutting off a section of the field, this was reinstated within 30 minutes.- can't complain!
Whilst there was a small shallow section with a wall and barrier on the heated pool, the main pools were too deep for my littlest one (8), I wouldn't recommend them for anyone but a competent swimmer. The shower blocks were well kept but the showers themselves were intermittent, sometimes cool/cold, other times hot (a little too hot), and on one occasion seemed to run out of water altogether! There didn't seem to be any pattern to it, I was told that they were aware and something was being done, the next day they were fine. I noticed several outfits using large ground anchors and broad webbing tie-downs on the front edge of the awning. The site does get windy, it's in a valley leading to a harbour, so it's to be expected!
If you're sleeping in the awning or under canvas, and it does get windy, all those boats in the harbour seem to have bells on, and of course the buoys also have bells on, it can get noisy! Most of the time its just a distant irregular chime, which is quite nice.
The bar was reasonable, as was the food, there's another, larger, pub 5 minutes walk up the road, to walk into coombe martin would take longer, and require you to walk in the road, over the road is Watermouth Castle, more suited to younger kids, the Dinosaur park on the other side of Coombe martin was enjoyed by all, if the weather's wet (always possible in N.Devon), there's a local quadbiking centre/stables a short drive away.
Ilfracombe's Tunnel Beaches are unusual, you have to pay to go in, but its a peaceful place with safe bathing - once the tide is out,- check times first! When it does, it reveals a large rockpool/swimming pool, there's a shop, cafe, & toilets close to hand!
Overall, I'd go again, and recommend the site, when the kids are off school, its not the quietest site, but if you go to a smallish site with a play area on it, in school holiday time, you have to expect some noise.

July 2005 while everything is kept clean, have to say we were disappointed with the quality of the showers and toilets and washing up facilities and these to me are the most important aspects of camping. The toilets and showers are housed in what an only be described as a portakabin, for most of the fortnight, the ladies were in darkness at night though this was remedied toward the end. Some toilets had towels round the base as they must have been leaking, half the shower doors didnt lock, there was no where to put your clothes as the cubicles were too small, and no hooks on the backs of doors. Rusty curtain rail covered over with insulating tape, lights over the mirrors not working. Showers almost cold after 10am which were push button and you got a 1 second spurt, as my nephew said just long enough to do an arm pit! Washing up sinks loose and probably coming away from wall
Rest of site clean, the gut buster breakfast was excellent for the money and not a bad area for walking, but please GET THE LAVS DONE!

July 2005 1st Time we have stayed on this site and in fact in this area. location is fantastic with lovely views over the harbour. The sunsets are something to behold. Site was very clean and tidy but my only complaint was that the showers were incredibly hot. Bar was pleasant and food was not expensive and can seriously recomend the sunday lunch. Owners were very friendly and very helpful and although he was totally tone deaf he started off the karaoke which made everyone feel more comfortable. Highly recomend this site and will certainly be going back.

July 2004 What can I say the best campsite I've ever visited anywhere, not only was the site really well kept but the scenery was stunning, it had its own harbour which looked beautiful when the sun set. The little private beach was easily accessible and very cute!! Ideal for families with small children to keep an eye on. The shower blocks were cleaned twice a day and were very clean. Everything was a small walk away and there were two swimming pools (heated and unheated). Everyone on the site was friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere. The club house was an ideal size located next to a small arcade neccessery to keep the kids happy while you have a quick drink. I was extremely pleased with how cheap the site was to pitch on for the week and have booked up again this year. It's also a great place to go if you have a boat. The only critisism I had was that the showers didn't always run hot, you had to catch them at the right time but that wasn't a problem for us as we had showers in the morning when the water was always warm but they're supposed to be fixing it now. It's an ideal place for families and I'm all booked up for next year. I would recommend this site to everyone and anyone.

July 2004 I visisted this camp site earlier this year and I can honestly say I had a fantastic holiday!! There was lots to do and see on the campsite and it was a pleasure to spend a week there. There was a private beach with caves for the kids to explore a habour that looked really beuitiful when the sun was setting a park for the kids to swimming pools one which was unheated which we dared each other to jump in and a club house with good entertainment. We stayed in a tent an the toliet blocks were clean and the showers were lovley and warm when u caught them at the right time. Every thing was a little walk a way and I enjoyed every minute of it I strongley recomend this site to any one looking for a really cheap and chearful holiday ill be visiting again next year

August 2004 I have visited Watermouth for the last 25 years and had some wonderful times there. the views and walks are breath taking. A nice family run site, Chris and Alan have become good friends of the family, we have watched their children grow up. I have a young son of 7, I feel the site is very safe and can relax when there.
The pools are clean and well maintained, as are the toilets and showers, though they are begining to look a little dated. The continental sinks are a God sent, really handy. If you like fishing this is the holiday for you, also excellent for the boating enthusiast.
My main criticism would be during the high season you do tend to get the campers from the tent site next door sneaking into the pool and club house if they get the chance, at times there's been very little seating room due to the visitors. Having said this, recently Alan and Chris have done regular checks in both areas and asked the offenders to go.

August 2004 This is a Fantastic Park, Great for camping, I don't think there is a better location anywhere in the country. The views were amazing, the walks were lovely and everything else was a bonus.
Club house was very friendly, park was lovely for my two. The beach on site was such a big hit for our children who are 6 & 7, they loved the caves.
We will be visiting again this year. My only complaint was the weather!! It rained.

Jul/Aug 2004 Having just come back i have to agree with some comments form other reviewers. Site was ok if you got a level pitch. We had one and could not get caravan level, i could sleep but felt strange each morning. We stayed for a fortnight and the 1st thursday managed to move to a flatter pitch. Owners were very good about us moving.
My kids used the pools but i didn't. Toilets were clean but rather small cubicles unless you used the ones by the shop. Showers were the push button type that you have to keep pressing, hot and powerful but again not a lot of room, hook on door would of been nice.
Site was full but fairly quiet. Nice walks along cliff tops though. Watermouth castle is dead opposite, walking distance, well worth a visit.
