Ones again we went to this campsite. Love it every time and the new shower block is ace. We did bring our own new kayaks with us this time and had great fun on them. The pitches are very big and we had enough room for two tents, a large car and the kayaks. We always book the main pitch for the electrics and also for the flat ground. We now feel like part of the family as this was now the fifth time we been there. Love the food and staff always having a good laugh with us.

Love the campsite. Been there now for the fourth time and yes we be back next year. Everyone is so friendly and make you feel like one of the family. The facilities are ace and very clean. We chose this campsite because of the water sport and this year we brought a blow up kayak with us only to find out that we could not get out too far in it. Well next year we will bring proper ones with us so we will have a lot more fun.

We chose this site because of the (mainly) great reviews, the facilities and also the private beach. What private beach! This is not much more than a concrete launch ramp for the jet skis and other activities the site has on offer.

When we arrived we were shown to our pitch by a lovely, well mannered member of the 'crew'. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw where they expected us to pitch up.

The whole area was shaded by a large tree and the space at the side of the level hard standing for the camper van was totally void of grass, being a bare patch of muddy earth. I think the look on my face said it all.

We couldn't even relocate the van and awning because of a wooden edging around the gravel hard standing and the sloped area which was the rest of our pitch.

The sun eventually arrived on our pitch around 4pm but a tree further down the field meant we had to constantly move around to stay with the warm spot.

We never sampled the food in the bar as it didn't look particularly appetising and instead walked down to The Sawmill which served lovely home cooked food which was reasonably priced and came in pretty big portions.

After resigning ourselves to the fact that we would only have sun in the evening a huge caravan pitched at the side of us, erected a wind break around the whole perimeter of his pitch and completely shaded our spot. He connected his water supply to our tap which I had to constantly disconnect to get any water.

The toilets were a couple of portacabins as were the separate tiny showers, not ideal for trying to shower a younger child as it was a very tight squeeze for 2 slim bodies. Personally I thought the pitch layouts seemed very cramped and the whole site looked overcrowded

On the plus side the crew were very friendly, children's play area was big, there was a small arcade, the pool area was good but the water very cold and the facilities and activities excellent if that's what you are into.

If you want a traditional camping field with unmarked plots that cost half the price go next door to Watermouth valley. We wished we had!

I quite liked this site. The electric pitches were large and flat with plenty of room for a tent. Good large toilet block. Lots of facilities on site, although there seemed to be a lot of things crammed into a small space. The bar doubled up as a restaurant, café, reception and shop! It was very geared up for water sports and not for a beach holiday. There was a nice view of the harbour and castle at one end, and the pub was in easy walking distance. There were bungalows for rent but they weren’t in very good positions, on the edge of the car park, etc. There wasn't a great deal in the area. Good value for money but something and nothing.

My family have just returned from a very enjoyable week at Watermouth Cove. The facilities are good and the staff really made us feel that we were being well looked after. We camped in the tent field which was a little quieter than the main site. Although the tent field is almost surrounded by sea, most of the pitches seemed fairly sheltered, which was handy as it was pretty windy all week! We enjoyed the clubhouse bar and restaurant and felt that prices were reasonable. The children's park and swimming pools and private beach were all very good. With so much to offer, we'll definitely be returning here for another holiday.

Stayed at Watermouth Cove for 6 nights end of July 2014, on AWP opposite the children's play area, in a large Nomad tent. A truly outstanding campsite, staff were very efficient, helpful and polite. Location is perfect and provides a mix of wilderness, adventure, views and civilisation. Activities well structured and organised, loved the kayaking and jet skis. I would go back in a heart beat. Very hard to pick faults without being excessively pedantic or having unrealistic expectations. Yes the toilets and shower block were clean and well maintained. Never had to wait. Site was silent at night (except for the occasional hoot of Owls). My children (14 & 9) loved the site and were sad to leave, they have already started to beg me to book up for 2015. Every camper we met at the site had nothing but praise for it.

As an example of staff attitude. Wind picked up one afternoon and blew an absent neighbours gazebo / BBQ and temporary storage over. Before I could raise an eyebrow a passing member of staff had called on his radio for assistance and the shelter was re-positioned, re-pegged with better wind resistance. Much to the surprise of the owners when they returned.

We love this place and have been twice and will return again. However, I am still baffled as to why dogs are allowed to be on site and why would anyone want to bring their pets on holiday anyway. Not much of a break having to look after dogs. Not all dogs were kept on leads and I turned round one evening to see a dog staring at me in my awning, obviously after the chicken that had just been cooked. Glad it was me that it met first and not one of my kids. A lot of barking and not all mess is picked up. As a parent I do not think dogs and children should be in such close quarters, especially when its hot and animals become unsettled. Lets hope that a child doesn't have to be bitten before anything is done. Great park for kids but some children are left to it and I had to tell other peoples kids about spitting and throwing the bark in others faces. Facilities are good but get very messy as the site gets busier. Pool area is great but could do with a re-vamp and pools need re-tiling inside as some parts are very sharp and I heard of a few folk cutting hands or feet. The water sports side of things are great (jet ski hire very steep)but lets not forget about the camping side of things such as the pool and facilities. All in all, we would recommend watermouth cove and we will be back next year. Looking forward to it. (no dogs please).

Just got back from a week at Watermouth Cove, unfortunately I was very disappointed. The site is in an ideal location for visiting the surrounding areas but the site facilities let it down. Where to begin! The overall appearance of the site is unkempt. The tracks (sorry could not describe these as roads)need to be resurfaced and are no wider than a car width between pitches. The pitch size allocated is adequate for caravan, awning and vehicle but with very little space between each pitch, making it a little cosy (we could hear everything! from the tent pitched across the track behind us!). A little concerned about not having a dedicated dog walking area, we were told the site was dog friendly and as long as dogs were kept on a lead they had the freedom of the camp, which is lovely, however, not all campers are responsible dog owners and do need to learn how to bin it! Children's play area is a plus, plenty of stuff to keep them occupied. Lighting around the camp was very poor, half the lights did not work, so make sure to pack a torch and mind the guide ropes! Wi-Fi what Wi-Fi??? For the entire week no signal could be found - also poor TV reception even though we had a super pitch with aerial hook up and no phone signal either - emergency calls only and yes I know as informed by the staff this maybe down to our network, but three phones, three different networks! The shower and toilet facilities have not been thought out very well at all! Both facilities are housed in two small porta cabins. The showers are shall we say compact! If like many campers you have small children they would shower with a parent, unless you leave the shower door open this is not possible, in doing this the small changing area turns into a swimming pool. Other sites we have visited provide at least a mop so campers can clean up after themselves, but no, so whoever uses the shower next expect to get wet before you take a shower. The toilets are in a separate porta cabin and again compact in size - my husband said whilst having a shave one morning he was stood elbow to elbow with a guy using the urinal next to him - a partition board may have been welcomed! Female toilet attendant not a problem but should at least knock before entering men's toilet facilities. The old toilet block by reception is much larger and dare I say much cleaner - I could go on and on about this subject but lets just leave it at that!

The outdoor pool, bar and restaurant are a plus - meals are reasonable but a short walk to the local pub rivals this in quality and value for money. If you are in a tent and are pitched on the upper level of the campsite there are some spectacular sea views however this does not make up for poor, unkempt, unclean site facilities.

This could be a gem of a site if only a little more thought and TLC went into it - location wise it is perfect - sea views are outstanding but there are a lot of sites in the area with higher standards and are better value for money. It is not somewhere I would recommend or stay again.

We booked this site as we had never been to North Devon and the reviews looked good, and we were not disappointed with our experience. Overall the pluses far outweighed the few minus points.

The site is very well kept and maintained and the staff are very friendly and helpful at all times, when we were shown to our pitch, we were concerned about the dog going out onto the access road (even though he is tethered there would not have been enough space at the front for him to move once the tent was up) and we were immediately offered an alternative pitch which was larger and further back, no problem at all and no fuss, the chap simply radioed through the new pitch number to reception.

The setting of the site is spectacular with lovely cliff top and headland walks, we loved the walk up to the folly with views of the pretty little harbour, and the views on the walk the other way were wonderful, there were seats and chimeneas there for campers' use which was a nice addition. You would need to be very careful with children in these areas though because of the sheer drops, hence my 7/10 for child friendliness, despite a very good playground.

It is great that the site is so near to lovely places like Ilfracombe, which I loved, and Combe Martin, we did not see anything like everything we wanted to, so will definitely come back to the area.

There was a friendly atmosphere on the site whilst we were there, people were generally friendly and chatty.

The pitches are fairly big, but I do have to say that if the site was full it would feel very crowded, we are used to much quieter sites off the beaten track, I would not go in very high season for that reason, as it was there was plenty of space until for some reason the site placed a family group right in front of us in a row of four pitches, when there was plenty of room on the other part of the field for them to be opposite each other giving them a central area to sit in, we did say that we felt a bit 'hemmed in' and reception said that they had just turned up so they could not pitch them that way, which was not particularly satisfactory to us as we could not understand why, as the large area further forward remained empty until the end of our stay.

Of course, the pitches in front of us might well have been occupied at any time, but because it was a family group all in a row it became more of an issue with general noise etc.

We were in all fairness offered another pitch further along by the very helpful reception staff, which would have been a lot nicer but it would have taken all day to move a huge frame tent and all our stuff, so we reluctantly decided to stay put.

It was a bit intrusive and annoying when these families were shouting right across all the pitches to each other all the time and we did have to speak to reception when this went on after midnight despite the warden coming along at 11. 15 and asking them to be quiet. We were promised that they would be spoken to, which I presume they were.

We were glad that the noise pretty much stopped after that day, but we felt that we were unnecessarily hemmed in as there was plenty of space elsewhere at that time.

Another point I feel I must add is that when we were packing up to leave, a group of people arrived on the site with two old caravans, a couple of vans and lots of jet skis, who then proceeded to set up to the accompaniment of loud music which disturbed the peace of the whole site, and as we drove off we saw huge speakers outside the van, lots of crates of beer and we certainly felt that it did not create a good impression to anyone just arriving to see that going on, and people spitting and swearing, hopefully the site would not allow any obnoxious behaviour to spoil people's experience and their holiday, but it would have put me off, and I would be very concerned if the site encouraged that type of group.

Hopefully not, but only fair to mention how we saw it. We did notice one of the campsite staff watching for a while from a distance, so I think it had been noted, and was probably monitored and dealt with.

The facilities on site are very clean and certainly not too busy, we never had to wait for a shower and although they are the portacabin style units, they were perfectly adequate, the usual push button showers with plenty of hot water. It would have been nice though if there had been some sinks in the shower area, so that you could get a shower and clean teeth as well rather than having to go round to the separate toilet portacabin to use the sinks either before or afterwards, but that is a small gripe really.

The washing up area was clean too, but the taps were rather leaky, with hot water coming out of the top which really should be sorted out.

The reception and shop area was well laid out, there was a restaurant but it was very expensive so we did not use it, the shop was very limited and we felt quite expensive, but this was not really an issue because we shopped at the local supermarkets and only used it once when we needed to do laundry for some washing powder, and once when we needed a couple of cold drinks on the way out, cans at £1. 25 each seemed a very high price to me.

Our two teenagers had fun in the arcade, they really enjoyed going over there in the evening

I used the very clean and well equipped laundry room once, efficient machines but it was £5 for a wash and £1 for 15 minutes drying, but it got the job done well so I felt it was worth it.

We hired kayaks once, which was enjoyable but again we felt quite expensive, we would have gone back again if it had been a little more reasonable, but again our choice and there was plenty to do in the area so not really a major problem, not sure if the site would do better if they made the prices for these extras more reasonable, as the pitch prices certainly are, but it is possible that they would get more repeat custom if they pitched the prices a little lower, hence my overall 8/10 for value for money, this would have been less if it was just for the 'extras' but the pitch prices were very good, and you do have a choice whether you use the additional facilities.

We really liked the non electric field at the top of the site, we had a look at the facilities there after reading that some people had not liked them in previous reviews, and although they stated that they were only temporary, they were very clean and perfectly adequate, I would not have any problem using them, although I understand that others have said that there is no lighting at night which presumably will be addressed when these facilities are replaced. A basic washing up area would be good for this part of the site as well, as it is quite a way to the main facilities with a whole load of dirty pots!

We would definitely return and use the non electric field in the future, many pitches are very well situated and quite flat too.

All in all a nice site which we would return to, either the ehu main part, or the non ehu upper field, but out of the main school summer holidays.

Booked 5 tents in for the top field. And virtually had the whole place to ourselves. To write this review sits a bit heavy on my heart as on one hand I would love to give this site top marks, but I must be honest. So this leads me to my comments below. The site is in a cracking location and has very good access off the main road and is also nice and quite on an evening with no road noise from the main road. This is my second visit to this site and to be honest will probably be my last. In the upper tent field where we were, you have Toilet and shower facilities and to be pretty honest they fall well below standard for modern sites and are desperate to be replaced. But they have not! their is also no working lights in these facilities after dark so a torch is needed! now that's awful. The Bar as nice as it is still closes early 9pm or 10pm witch beggars belief in 2014! the food in the Bar is pretty 3rd rate. And I would advise to walk up to the Sawmill pub 2 mins walk away and eat their for better value and quality. With so many camping sites in this area Watermouth cove really needs to up their game to remain open.
