We arrived at Watermouth Cove following a week in South Devon on a caravan club site. Upon arrival we had a hearty welcome from Ken the security guard, and were led to out pitch by one of the lads on his quad bike. You can imagine our shock as we entered the site and were met by pitch after pitch that had been waterlogged by the previous weeks deluge of rain. Upon reaching our pitch, we were given a few options to help us pitch in the best manner by the owners, and from here on it only got better. I had previously read some feedback which was a little critical of this caravan site, but I can reasure you that the new owners and staff are striving to make this a thing of the past. Gone are the old shower blocks and in come new, temporary portacabins. The shower cubicles are too small, and you stand no chance of showering a toddler in here due to the fact that you can't shut the glass door and will end up soaked yourself! That aside, there is no shortage of hot water and the whole area is well cleaned each day. A visit to the small clubhouse in the evening found good entertainment and a great atmosphere, a bit small but it's likely to be busy when it's raining! It's well worth a few pounds spent on a fishing rod on a visit here, but my advice would be to buy it in Combe Martin or other local shops as the prices in the site shop are ridiculous. I mean £0.99 for a tin of beans is ridiculous, and most of the fishing gear is circa 100% more expensive then elsewhere. All in all a great site and well worth the visit, we will certainly rebook for 2008.

Our visit to Watermouth Cove was during that horrendous wet season when everywhere seemed to be flooded. Even though the weather affected our holiday the owners were absolutely fantastic and did everything they could to make us all comfortable. They provided straw which helped a lot and also ordered tonnes of sand to soak up the flooded pitches. I cannot praise their efforts enough. The site is beautiful - it has fantastic views and is set amid a gorgeous cove, has its own private shingly beach, which is great for rock pooling and skimming stones. The walk through the caves around the beach is quite spectacular. The showers and facilities are great. We've been camping for 15 years and this has got to be one of my favourite sites. Some of the pitches are on a fair slope so make sure you ask if you want a level pitch. The new owners are clearly doing a great job. Every single member of staff I spoke to (from the security man who welcomes you, the chap who takes you to your pitch, the people in the shop and the bar, the people cleaning the toilets), they were all friendly and helpful.

We stayed here for 2 weeks in July during during the monsoon season. Apart from the weather we had a great time. The site was v.good. Clean toilets/showers clubhouse/restaurant was clean and good food. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The pool was warm and clean. One for us to put on the return to list.

We have just had a week at this wonderful holiday park. The weather wasn't brilliant but we had a wonderful time. Having read previous reviews we wondered what we were going to find when we arrived, well firstly was the very pleasant and helpful young Australian lady in the shop, next our lovely neighbours for the week and then we met Ken. He showed us to our pitch. Ken looked after us for the rest of the week he looks after security at the park. He arrives early and stays till late and we never felt safer on a park than at Watermouth cove. The new showers are good and plenty of them, we never had to queue either. Breathtaking views, very friendly atmosphere and we will be back, in fact hoping to get back this year.

Just got back from a long weekend at Watermouth Cove. We had a great time and thought that the campsite was really nice. The weather was not very kind to us and the one complaint (which cannot be helped) it that the ground got very boggy. Overall I thought the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the location of the park was excellent. If you have kids, the park on-site is great and a visit to the castle is a must. We also visited the Dinosaur park in Ilfracombe - that was rubbish and a rip off. Don't bother!

Firstly, WOW!, what a view from the site. Sat right on the edge of Watermouth Harbour/Cove - to which you have direct access from the site. The sea views from the private headland (from where you can also see Watermouth Castle) are fantastic too! There is a brand new toilet block on site (porta cabins!) with outside decking and seating. Clean, but small shower cubicles. The only thing we didn't like was that the toilets didn't have any soap in so you had to take your own???? Nice reception area and shop that cater for most of your forgotten needs! Bar and takeway also on site , with lovely outside seating area. Food was OK (basic) but a little expensive for what you got. Cider was great though! There's a small private beach area (and caves) but there are no dogs allowed on it. The walking from the site, along the coastal path, is excellent. One way to Combe Martin - approx 2 miles - which was nice and easy.the other way to Ilfracombe - approx 3 or 4 miles! - which is pretty strenuous but well worth the climbs for the fabulous views from the headland. Site fees were a bit expensive, considering the site next door was half the price, but you obviously pay for the facilities (incl 2 outdoor pools) which is OK if you're gonna use them

We have been visiting watermouth for 17 years, and for the last 10 years have had a seasonal pitch at the site. The site changed hands last season and one time we considered moving being as we had got on so well with the previous owners . What a mistake that would have been , all I can say is if you have visited the cove and have been disappointed with your visit, give it another try the changes the new owners have made are fantastic.

Just thought we would let you all know that our new showers and toilets are amazing. Beautifully clean, delightfully warm and fresh smelling (at last!) The old shower block finally left the site on the 23rd January, what a day for celebration. Already the feedback on the new facilities is fantastic. We look forward to an exciting 2007 season with great entertainment, new menus, and lots lots more. Hope to see you.

I found this site a couple of years ago on the Internet. Selfishly I would love to say it was horrible and don't go, (that way there will always be a pitch free for me) BUT I CAN'T. I love it and am a complete fan. There are a few improvements that do need to be made and from my understanding they are planned over the winter season. The new owners are really lovely and friendly and couldn't do enough to help us both times we have stayed this year. There are a couple of grumpy people on site though, that think as they have payed for a seasonal pitch they own the place but we just ignore them and now even their moans are part of our fun. You can take your dogs into the bar on the evening which I feel is great because loads of sites feel they have the right to charge you 2:00 a night for your dog but expect you to keep them locked up inside if you want to go out. As we have a folding camper that is not an option. I would recommend this site anytime the location is spectacular. The coastal paths on site have been cleared out this year so you can get even better access to those wonderful views.

We have got a seasonal pitch at Watermouth and have done for five years. While we have been really happy under the previous owner, he was a genuinely great bloke (miss your singing voice Alan!) we feel that there have been some unjust comments on the new owners Dave and Viv & manager Bob, who took on the site mid season and as such were unaware of many problems involved with taking on a new site. We appreciate that the locals feel they have a right to fish and walk their dogs as they always have done but in reality they don't. If I want to fish a local carp lake I have to pay. Please give the new owners a chance and I'm sure everyone will be pleasantly surprised by next season!
