Our first visit "up North" we normally visit Devon or Cornwall. So we opted for High Laning and hoped for the best, we weren't disappointed. Set in fantastic countryside with spectacular views High Laning is the place for R&R. We pitched on the bottom field, the one with a toilet block but without shower facilities. This really isn't a problem, a little walk across the road and all the amenities you could wish for are at hand. Including, shower block, shop, more toilets, laundry room, games room and other stuff that we didn't need. One tip for the bottom field is to pitch away from the main road, well it isn't really a main road but at 2am in the morning a passing car at a fair clip sounds like a steam roller and shakes the tent!! This really was a minor irritation. Reading the other right ups I was really unsure of what to make of the very scary Margaret, a mere pussy-cat and one of the nicest women you could wish to meet. She will stop and chat or leave you to it; she will offer advice, serve you in the shop and generally go out of her way to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. A real Northern lass with a heart of gold. Dent is a lovely little village with a couple of well stocked pubs, "The Sun" in particular offers a fine range of Real Ales and one of the best Steak & Ale Pies I've had for a long, long time. The surrounding countryside is easily accessible and the Lakes, Kendal and other areas are a short ride away. We will be back and are already looking forward to it, just in case you read it - "Hello Margaret from Craig, Paula and the twins Lily & Katy (8 months).

Very wet here but good location, super for walkers but not much going on for children. Toilets clean but quite a trek in the rain and not enough showers really (particularly on a VERY busy bank hol). Thought it was great that all noise stops at 11.30pm and Margaret (owner) stopped annoying footballing tent neighbours and sent them to the sports field close by. Overall very good - but did I mention wet!!

Ii have just returned from a Friday to Monday break at High Laning and feel compelled to write a review. Wwe went on a recomendation of someone we met at wood nook in Skipton. I have travelled a lot of the english countryside but would be hard pressed to find anywhere with such amazing views. Tthe site is run by Margaret who at first seems very stern but is actually very nice and cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable. Ttoilets are constantly being cleaned and are a stones throw from any pitch. She happily accommodated three tents a gazebo and two cars within a pitch we could easily have added another tent or two in.
Dent is a very quaint little village and I must add if you venture into it try a local ale made three miles down the valley(kamakazi). We only found out on departure that electric hook ups on this site are free and there is no leaving time on departure. There is too much to say about this family run site to fit on a review, we will certainly be revisiting this site next time with electric, and a longer visit is a must

June 2005 I would re-iterate the following: This is a small clean site with basic toilet block in tent / tourer field and shower block and shop over the road in main caravan field. Scenery is superb and Dent has all the facilities shops/pubs etc. you could require. Paddling in the river (by the bridge) and play ground on the green for the kids. Tourer field was well managed with good space between pitches.
The only bad comment I would make is that the grass had not been cut recently and the midges were AWFULL. Don't know if these two points are related but unable to sit out past 8 o,clock in the evening without full mesh protection.

May 2005 We have just returned from the bank holiday weekend stay at High Laning and thought it was fabulous. Margaret was very friendly despite some of the comments I had read before our visit.
The toilets and showers were being cleaned constantly. We had some great walks and sampled all of dents cafes and pubs and thouroughly enjoyed them all. We couldn,t have asked for a better view, and being within walking distance of all the village has to offer we couldn't have been in a better location.

April 2005 Just come back from UKCS meet at this site and had an excellent time.
We camped on the bottom field which was lovely and peaceful. The only problem that this field only had a toilet block and no showers. The field on the other side of the road had a shower block, it was more of a pain than a big problem though.
Dent is a fantastic little village with a couple of good pubs and a few little tea rooms. The surrounding scenery is excellent.
The site has a farm shop selling everything you need and the village also has a small grocery shop and post office.
Overall this site is excellent and the only improvment I could ask for would be a shower in toilets in the bottom field.
I would highly recommend this site and am planning a return trip for the summer.

April 2005 Visited this site for a meet,What a lovely stunning location.there's a lovely riverside walk from the site. We were on the field opposite the main site which I thought had the best views. The farm house sold fresh farm produce and a few groceries and also had information leaflets, the owners were also willing to give you any information on local attractions. It is located Just on the edge of Dent village wish is a plesure to stroll round and there is plenty of walks for the more adventures ramblers. We paid a visit a cafe at the top of the village Rise Hill Kitchen had homemade soup, icecream and cakes, highly recommend it.
The Toilet Block on our field was quite new and kept very clean. I just felt they would be even better with something to screen the mens urinal from the open door and washing up area. As we were blessed with super weather the door was always wide open. Maybe some type of doormat at the entrance so as not to trail the wet grass in. A super site and can't wait to go again.

August 2004 We arived at High Laning after a long journey from Reading, it was wet and windy and only a few tents scattered around the big field. My first impression was is this the right place, but after we pitched the tent and settled in it turned out to be the best site we had stayed in. Dent is a lovely little place, we ended up staying for a fortnight. Margaret was frendly and helpful but stay on the right side of her. The site was quiet and staff helpful, showers and toilets very clean. We had a great view of the surrounding hills, will return.

July 2004 Visited this site for one night 24th July with our two children (3) and (6). We stayed with 3 of our friends and their children too - We're all new to camping. We didn't really 'choose' to stay here - we'd rung abount 12 other sites first only to find they were all full for this weekend (good weather forecast APPARENTLY....) or that they didnt take bookings & only operated on a first come, first serve basis - not much good when you're travelling with young children - the last thing we wanted was to end up treking all over the place trying to find somewhere to stay. High Laning took bookings and had room for all us so here we came.
The site itself is fairly small, but is level and the pitches are of a good size, you can also park your car right next to the tents, which was just as well given the amount of stuff we took, it looked like we were planning on staying a week! Being a small site the toilet block was only a stone's throw away, it was basic - two toilets and two hand basins in the ladies, but it was well lit and very clean. I Didn't see the shower block (only stayed for one night so managed with just a quick basin wash!)
Our visit was somewhat overshadowed by the appalling weather, it started raining about 6.30pm (thankfully just after we'd had our BBQ), then it stopped for a bit, so we went for a walk into the village of Dent (about 5 mins). Tried to go to one of the local pubs, The Sun Inn which said "Children Welcome" only to find it jam packed and not very welcoming of children at all (perhaps it had something to do with the fact that we had 8 of the little darlings in tow?) With nowhere else in the village to go to we headed back to the campsite, and as the rain had stopped we played some ball games with the kids. We did this till about 9pm, then put the children to bed. We were planning on sitting out together with a few bottles of wine and beer once the kids were asleep but ...... the darn rain started again with a vengence and so we had to seek cover in our separate tents. That was it for the night, the rain set in and the wind blew & blew. This being my first time under canvas for many a year I could hardly sleep for worry that the tent pegs wouldn't hold, and I had visions of our outer tent disappearing like a kite over the fells! The kids actually slept through most of it thank god. On waking at 8.00am it was STILL raining & blowing, we were all thoroughly fed up and so unanimously decided to pack up and go home! Not a terribly good experience for our first time out, ruined totally by the weather, and nothing at all to do with the campsite.
Would visit High Laning again, its set in beautiful scenery, (when not covered in cloud), and there's a river about 15 mins walk from the site which would have been ideal for the kids to paddle in, weather permitting. There's a good cafe, 'Meadowside', right next to the campsite, and the village also has a lovely Newsagents shop which seemed to sell everything but the kitchen sink. There's no play area for the children on the campsite, but there is a small playground with swings, roundabout, slide etc, on the village green, again about 3 mins walk from the site.
Despite our bad experience this time, we're not put off camping altogether, we're planning another trip with the same friends in 2 weeks - PLEASE, PLEASE let the weather be kind to us this time!

June 2004 We were a bit disappointed with this campsite although it wasn't as bad as we imagined from some of the reviews! We were lucky that we had pre booked and so weren't too far away from the toilets, some people were put miles away! There were only two toilets for a lot of people to share so there was usually a que which isn't good, you had to be quick in the shower if you only wanted to put in one 20p and there was cut grass everywhere that they didn't seem to bother cleaning up. Dent is absolutely lovely and there are some great walks also a couple of pubs and cafes within walking distance of the site. We may visit this site again but only if we felt like roughing it a bit!
