Just spent6 nights at High Laning. I'll admit that I think this is a great place to stay, I feel like I'm coming home when we arrive. So I might be biased !
The campsite is clean, well looked after with plenty of toilet, shower and washing facilities. Remember to bring 20 pence for the shower. One 20 pence is more than enough.
There was a group of 9 tents varying in size, some with electric some without.
The weather wasn't brilliant but remember, you've bought the kit so you might as well use it. Dent is one of them places that gets its own weather, so don't rely on a forecast. , it's usually better than expected.
Turn up and trust the weather and I'm sure you'll enjoy yourselves, the site owners will look after you and if you need a bit of extra kit, Margaret should be able to help.
Great pubs, real ale, good food, views and friends all help make you have an excellent time at High Laning.
ENJOY.

I left a review last year and only wanted to add that this is a great place to come to 'get away from it all' but if you have to be glued to your mobile, checking emails or surfing the internet constantly whilst on holiday you'll have a problem here. Being in a deep and remote valley makes it peaceful (outside of peak holidays) with classic Dales views but it plays havoc with mobile reception and the internet. Admittedly it is still on the pricey side but cottages/ B&B in the village are probably a lot more expensive.

Visited for 3 nights during October 2013. Very wet and windy but that didn't spoil our visit as campsite has every thing we needed but very expensive and they have rule on what you can use electric wise in your van so could not use my heater which did spoil the visit. Village has great shop and is Ideal placed for short walks if you have young kids or longer walks if you want. A great place to get away from everything as no mobile service but all the pubs in the village have wifi (Camp wifi was crap and only worked for 10 minutes the whole time we were there).

Five miles along a twisting and very narrow road from Sedbergh and split by the road at the edge of the Dent, High Laning is the largest and best equipped site in the village but much busier and very popular with groups and families with young children. Facilities are very good with plenty of hot water, toilets and showers (20p extra), prices are not displayed on website so check before booking as there are quite a few extras, it is the most expensive here but does provide more than the others. Site is well looked after and kept very tidy.
This is a beautiful part of The Dales with superb walking/ cycling and stunning views so make sure that you can see them because due to limited hard standing larger motorhomes may need to be on hard ground, ask to be positioned so you can actually see the gorgeous fells from you window and not the road or a garage. Plenty of pubs and cafes within 5 minutes walk and a good local shop/post office selling groceries and papers as well as shop on site. Dent is right on The Dales Way footpath and perfect for a night stop or much longer. Village has a very useful but limited bus service, only 3 or 4 times a day on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesday, to Dent Station- Cowgill- Sedbergh and Kendal, (my small dogs were allowed on the community bus ).
Top tips:
1. No phone signal on 3 or O2 network and free WiFi didn’t work when campsite was busy so use the phone box by reception it costs 20p to make a call instead of 60p in village phone box.
2. Take the bus to Sedbergh or go the opposite direction to Dent Station and walk back to Dent via the Dales Way. Both walks are about 5 miles and fairly easy going but from Dent Station the way is poorly signed and has plenty of doggy unfriendly styles you’ll have to lift dogs over and there were fields with cows in you have to cross.
3. This site was much busier at weekend and during school holidays so visit outside these times if you want peace and quiet.

My Husband, myself and our dog have just returned from a 4 night Bank Holiday stay at the High Laning Site.
We had a fabulous time and even though the park was very full, mainly with tents we still enjoyed the tranquillity of the surrounding countryside. The park rules given to you on booking into the site were followed to the letter by the majority and the site had a lovely friendly feel about it with very little noise after 10pm.
Shower and toilet facilities were clean and plentiful.
The road from Sedburgh was a little tight with only a 2 berth caravan so we could see why the site was mainly tented.
Only downside to the location were the 2 pubs. 1 had no outside area/seating at all and the other had outside seating in a grotty carpark, so on a hot Bank Holiday weekend we tended to stick to sitting outside our van.
We would recommend a stay here and Margaret makes you feel very welcome. A lovely picturesque site and run like a military operation, well done.

We stayed at High Laning for my wife's 50th birthday with a large group of friends. We were really lucky, because we had absolutely perfect weather that weekend - always nice when you're camping of course!
Firstly, a few words about the village of Dent: it's a really quaint pretty little village, with cobbled streets and looks as it probably did a few hundred years ago! It has 2 good pubs, with real ale, and they serve food. Also there is the option for B&B if some of your party don't love being under canvas. Next to High Laning campsite is a lovely little cafe that serves great breakfasts and lunches, if you don't feel like cooking. Surrounding Dent there are some really good walks, and views from the campsite are lovely, as it is nestled in a valley.
Now for High Laning: this is a superb campsite. The toilet and shower facilities are kept nice and clean, and the pitches are mostly flat. Margaret and Jim and their family looked after us to a fault. We had lots of chats with Margaret, and she made us feel very welcome, she's a lovely lady. They made sure my wife's birthday weekend went without a hitch. Margaret went out of her way to make it special for us, surprising us by loaning us her lovely large garden table to have as our centrepiece under our gazebo, with a gorgeous flower basket centre stage, so it looked celebratory for the occasion! We ordered online with Asda (in the nearby town- I forget the name of it, sorry) lots of BBQ food and provisions for our group, and Margaret was happy for us to have it delivered to us at the campsite, letting us use her large fridge and freezer to keep it fresh.
We had a fantastic time staying here (it's a weekend we all still talk about) and will definitely be back. Thanks Margaret and Jim.

Superb in every way.
We have stayed at High Laning on several occasions and generally two to three times each year. The site is on a working farm and where the owners have got the balance between a commercial farm operation and a holiday campsite absolutely right and without compromise or detriment to farming or camping.
The campsite is extremely well kept with very adequate facilities, excellent pubs and very quaint local amenities.
We recommend this site to everybody.

We stayed for 3 nights on a lovely weekend. Just to say a few goods and bads about the site.
Good are the facilities - spotless and very well managed.
Bad is the pricing policy. We had a medium frame tent (4 berth) and our friends had a, more normal nowadays, tunnel type tent (8 berth). Both of us had electric hook-up and yet they paid £57 and we paid £63 (plus £2 a night for the dog! I saw no dog facilities - not even a water dish!)
So our smaller tent cost an extra £2 a night, £21 a night is on the high side for camping for 2 people. Oh and they still charge 20p for a 4 minute shower. I don't think we'll be returning as we know many cheaper sites with equal scenery and facilities (and free showers).

We have just come back from a 3 night stay. Its a great site, we stayed on the bottom field and found the facilities were great.
There is only 1 shower but it was available when we wanted to use it. Plenty more showers near reception.
The shop on site sold everything including Rump Steaks which were gorgeous. Dent is lovely, ideal for walking.
We had a nice walk to sedburgh along the river on the dales way and then came back over the moors after buying a small walking guide map at the TIC in Sedburgh.
Margaret is lovely and helpful, we didn't meet her husband. We will be returning to this site as we really enjoyed it thank you.
We didn't take the children but there is a large field next to the campsite and a park not far away.

When all other sites are flooded this site is high and dry and does not flood due to it's elevation and being on limestone. This weekend there are flood warnings everywhere yet Dent is warm and dry. The area has it's own micro climate and although it gets a fair amount of the wet stuff, it's free draining and disappears very quickly.
When you're wet there is a tumble drier and drying cupboard, when you're cold and wet there are two real ale dog friendly pubs within 200 yards that usually have an open fire on the go; bliss. There is a well stocked shop, library, brew machine, and a shop in the village. There are lots of hookups but book at busy times.
The owners are very welcoming and the facilities are kept clean by an army of staff and there is a high level of security that extends right through the night.
Have visited hundreds of campsites once, but this one is worthy of many trips and the village, the access to breathtaking walks, the real ale and the friendliness of staff etc makes it great for everyone.
In summary a no-nonsense value for money site that I highly recommend and will be going back to in the future.
