We stayed in June this year and found a number of positive and a few negatives!
Positives - great location. Couldn't be better. Flat tent field with plenty of room and fantastic views all around. Just on the outskirts of the village, near pubs/shop etc and lots of walks from the doorstep. There is also no leaving time so we were able to potter around on the day of leaving and not pack up til late on.
Negatives - We found it quite pricey for what it is, and the shower on the tent field was small and dated and required money. Margaret was very pleasant but when we paid at the main reception the farm workers kept staring at us which made us feel a little uncomfortable!

Stayed over the first May bank holiday weekend with a party of 4 tents and 1 caravan.
This was a seriously unseasonal weekend regarding temperatures! It was freezing! In fact it was apparently -5 on one night. I knew something was wrong as a bucket of water outside our tent had frozen over!
Anyway, apart from the temperature we all had a lovely time and were made very welcome by 'Margaret' and other staff at High Lanning. In fact Margaret helped us out with extra sleeping bags due to the cold weather and would only accept a donation for the 'air ambulance' in return. We didn't even ask for the sleeping bags, my wife just mentioned how cold we had been the night before and without any questions Margaret just appeared with a bundle of 4 sleeping bags to help us out!
On arrival we were shown to our pitches and were given lots of help and advice regarding the best way for us all to set up. Again, more than we expected!
The site itself has beautiful views in a beautiful setting. Everything was clean and tidy with plenty of facilities. The shop stocked the essentials needed for decent BBQ's or breakfasts etc. There are also vending machines on site for cool drinks and snacks etc as well as a small 'library' for borrowing books.
Regarding the washing up facilities as mentioned in other reviews, we personally didn't have any issues at all and wouldn't have even thought about it to be honest.
Showers were hot and clean - Only just enough time though!
The only criticism I could possibly muster is the lack of a children's play area on site. However there is a park 5 minutes walk away in the village so not really an issue.
Overall highly recommended! Thank you Margaret!

This is a great site in a lovely setting, the owners are very accommodating and helped us so that we didn't sink into the grass due the mornings torrential downpour.
The only bad point about this site is that on the camping field you have to wash up in the toilets which is not a bit hygienic and is also accompanied by all sorts of noises and smells !
There is a sink outside the ladies but this isn't plumbed up to anything.
My husband was in the gents using the urinal and in walked a lady & two children with their pots & pans!
If there were decent washing up facilities and just one more shower on top of the single one there currently is on this side of the road it would be perfect.
There are better facilities over the road and up towards the farmhouse but it's a bit of a trek.
Dent itself is a lovely place and I will definitely be back, just hope the facilities are improved for next year.

Last visited in July 2011. Have been camping (tent) here for a few years now - so the negatives (few and far between) are far outweighed by the pluses.
Facilities are OK, depending upon how busy the site is. There are two (one small and one large) areas, each with some facilities, although the main showers are on the top site. 20p for showers, which are usually pretty good (40p enough for a decent shower).
Facilities always clean. Small shop on site selling basics (covers emergencies). Margaret is always helpful and a Yorkshire wit! Lovely walks directly from the campsite (always an advantage).
The setting is exceptional with Rise Hill overlooking the campsite. It's also open throughout the year and camping in the winter is just as enjoyable. The village is pretty small, but the two pubs are well worth visiting and sampling their liquid refreshments.
Personal impression is that pricing especially for tents is a little high, but probably compares with similar establishments. Recommended

We went to this campsite for the Dent Beer & Music Festival and although it rained practically all weekend, we had a really good time. Music and beer were very good although the downside to the craft bar was that it was only open for a few hours at a time so you had to get in quick to sample the different local brews!
The campsite was really good considering how busy it was and the torrential rain. The toilets and shower areas were clean and gave hot water - showers were 20p for four minutes and although the water temperature fluctuated - it was powerful.
There is a small shop on site selling milk, bread, bbq meats etc which is competitively priced, good pitches on well treat fields in beautiful surroundings. Well worth a visit even when the music festival isn't on. Laundry facilities are available and loads of washing up stations so you don't have to queue for the sinks.
The village of Dent has two pubs both of which are lovely, a cafe which serves a mean breakfast and the village is very picturesque. Loads of walks around with stunning scenery.
This campsite could benefit from having a play park for small children but they can take their bikes, bats and balls etc to play with.
Well done to Margaret who runs the site, she's an absolute blast with a great sense of humour and knows how to run a good ship!
A big well done to the guys in the tractors towing everyone out on the last day of the festival, they worked like trojans and were cheerful all the way through their arduous task. Well done guys!
Generally, a great place, great facilities and a fabulous weekend. The only thing that wasn't great was the weather. We called it Glasto-Dent Festival because it chucked it down pretty much all of the time.

Just back from a good weekend @ High Laning - helped by lovely weather Fri / Sat. & a few beers ;-)
First thing to be aware of are the roads into Dent which are very narrow and have 3 narrow bridges to cross. The best route for caravans is from Sedbergh, but even that is 3 or 4 miles mainly single track, so not for the faint hearted.
We were on the lower field and the site has some lovely views, but appear to cater more for the 'tenter'.
All the pitches are sited very close together with only just enough room for van & awning with car at front.
The showers & toilets are clean & OK, although from lower field it's a fair old trek (500m?) to the main block across the road where you do have to pay 20p for a rather dated but adequate shower. For 3 mins!
There are toilets and one shower in the lower field (the tent field) although was disappointed to be having a shave at my sink whilst a man was washing his dishes in the kitchen sink directly at side of me ( - not best suited to have kitchen washing mixed with toilet! )
Looks to be a great place for walking and would have liked more time for a visit to the small museum at the site gate.
Visited both the George & Dragon and the Sun Inn, both good pubs with good fish n chips, real ale (£3 a pint ish) & friendly locals.
All in all, a nice little site with hopefully room for improvement and staff very pleasant, although perhaps a little overpriced approx £19 per night for standard of facilities provided

Stayed here for the weekend. With a touring caravan and awning.
The owners were friendly and she escorted us to our pitch and told that we had the area between to two wooden posts. To say that the caravan pitched were narrow is an understatement. I paced this at 7 paces, between the post. We could not use the door at the front of the awning because we would have had to walk over the adjacent caravans water carrier. I would estimate we had a gap of about 2 feet from our awning to the side of the other caravan.
Access to the site is a nightmare. From Sedburgh to the site is about 5 miles. I would say that about 4,5 miles of this is a continuous single track lane we tight bends and very few passing places. Leaving on the Sunday was a nightmare with oncoming traffic, they having to back up a couple of hundred yards or so.
The site was clean and showers 20p (I though they had died out long ago). We paid £43 for two nights for a touring caravan, two adults and awning, which I thought was a little too expensive given the facilities. This appeared more of a camping venue rather that a caravan site.
I would certainly not return due to the hassle of trying to get there and back.
Dent itself is a beautiful little village and both pubs are friendly and the food good.

Visited this site in May 2011 on a wet weekend. Our first trip out in our new caravan after upgrading from a Trailer Tent. Lovely site, lovely settings.
Great little village - with two pubs, both serve food. We chose the lower field nearer the river, and as it was quiet could choose where we wanted to pitch. Lovely flat pitch.
Nice grass. Plenty of EHUs. Facilities if a little dated where fine and lots of nice to have extras - inc washing machines/driers, vending machine, showers, loos, phone box (phone service on o2 is non existant - Orange ok).
Owners friendly enough, if a little formidable. Make sure you pay before they do the rounds or they may remove your mains hookup till you do!
We had a fun afternoon/evening in the pub and met some fellow campers.
Ideal for a scenic stop if you're into the countryside as Dent is great for walking and the views of the surrounding hills are awesome.

This was our second visit to this site, as we really enjoyed our first. The campsite facilities are good and appropriate for our needs ie walking. But for families with small children there doesn't appear to be playground facilities. Showers and toilets are of a good standard. However, the only negative point was that our long week-end was spoiled by the unruly noise (until 03.00 a.M) by a party close to our tent, indicating that the 11.30 noise curfew is not 'policed'. Price is ok, but still can't understand why we had to pay for our small dog!
Dent village is a typical Dales village - small, friendly, pretty and also has 2 good pubs with great food and beer.

We were there for the music festival and the location was just perfect- a wander across the field took us to music, fabulous food and children's activities during the day.
The camping fields were heaving ( understandably) but well ordered, and we had plenty of space to park our transit and pitch our 5 m tent. No bother with late noise either night- campsite rules seemed well enforced and we never heard any upset of this. Facilities were kept clean, a major undertaking with the numbers using them, and I never had to queue for a shower, which at 20 p for 4 minutes seemed fine, especially as the water was good and hot.
The field we were in did have electric hook ups, but we weren't using them. The overflow fields were also good pitches (visited friends down there).
Campsite shop with an amazing array of stuff (but we didn't seem to forget anything for once!)and freezing for icepacks. Little museum on site looked interesting but never had chance to go in. The food at the festival was brilliant (though queuing for it wasn't great) and we're not drinkers so can't comment on the beers. We hadn't been to Dent before, and will certainly go back to explore the village more. We found a children's play area a short walk from the campsite, but didn't explore any further.
Cost of camping- well it wasn't a cheap weekend but I think the location just couldn't be better, and the loos, showers and washing up sinks were all kept in good clean condition at a busy weekend- very much appreciated. The owners and other staff about were always pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful (though v. Busy!), which makes such a difference.
