We stayed here August Bank Holiday after our first choice of site had let us down majorly.

Despite it being a Bank Holiday, the site was busy but not rammed. We were given a decent flat pitch a short distance from the toilet block.

Facilities were nice and clean and I never had to queue. The showers are coin-operated, so keep some change spare. The only niggle was groups of teenagers who seemed to think the toilet block was a good place to hang out(!).

Views from the site were amazing and it's a perfect base to do 'walks from the door'. We managed a couple of decent walks over the weekend.

Dent itself is also nice with a couple of very nice pubs. There is a museum on site, but we didn't visit it so can't comment on what it's like.

I'd booked to stay at High Laning via e-mail 2 nights earlier and got confirmation they had a pitch available for us.

We arrived at 2pm to find the caravan site was full of cars as there was a road race on and we were asked to park on a slope in the farm yard until they'd cleared off. I was charged £24 for the night even though their website said it was £19 per night for a campervan and two people (I assume that's the price without electric).

They'd shown us where our pitch was going to be when it eventually became vacant and it was on a lightly sloping grass pitch. But there was no way our 25 meter cable would have stretched to the hook-up!

We went for a walk for an hour and returned to the site to see it was still full of cars so I asked for a refund on my card, which to be fair was given straight away and we drove home.

If you've booked a pitch, you assume you'll have it from 1pm till 11am the next morning, not be parked up in a working farmyard for an unknown length of time. Had we been forewarned that our pitch wouldn't be available until after 5pm, we would have worked around this.

We have been using this site on and off for the last 20 years, but after this, we won't be back!

You get what you pay for and this site is very expensive, but the facilities are pristine. A little regimented in that the owners tell you where to pitch and although it was quiet during the week, it did get rather busy at the weekend, with children running around until after dark and those same youngsters up and playing before seven o clock the following morning!

This doesn't particularly bother me, but if you are the type who enjoys peace and quiet, you might want to look elsewhere. I also had the impression that cramming in could be a problem at busier times, such as Bank Holiday weekends.

As I say, I don't particularly mind a bit of noise, after all the people are on holiday and a bonus of this site is that the official curfew time (printed on the ticket that you attach to your unit) is 11:30PM, much more reasonable than the ten o clock I have seen on some sites.

Would I use this site again? No - but only because of the cost.

We arrived in the sunshine and was told by Margaret where we could pitch - we could chose our own and she also advised us on where the sun came up and went down so we could decide which way to face the tent. We then had a storm but the pitch didn't get soggy.

The site looked big but for our 17 days we were virtually alone apart from a caravan club which pitched at one end. Dent is very quiet and if you want night life, wifi and phone signals then it is not the place to come.

The facilities are clean, you have to pay 20 pence for 3 minutes for the shower which for us was enough but anyone with long hair they may have had to pay twice.

There are 2 pubs in the village we only tried the George and Dragon, where we had a fantastic meal and had wifi. The nearest supermarket is the Spar in Sedburgh which also has the best butchers who sell the best steak we have had in a long time.

The bigger supermarket Booths is in Kirkby Lonsdale. The local shop in Dent sells basics, milk, fresh bread, fruit and veg and also essentials like tent pegs etc. We would go again and the walking from the site was great.

And the view whilst eating our evening meal was to die for!

Clean and tidy site and facilities - loos, showers, elctric hook-ups. Not the cheapest, but you can always do your research before you choose! Nice welcome from the staff, and a good chat with Margaret.

Site is in a great location under Aye Gill Pike and Rise Hill, with two good pubs and small shop in walking distance.

Lovely walks straight from the campsite.

This site is extremely expensive. I paid nearly £100 for 3 nights. It's already quite expensive and then everything is extra - dogs, wifi, showers, an additional car even though the pitch was no bigger to accommodate the car. I do not believe the site website is clear on these points.

Also the wifi did not work at all and I know that most other campers had this experience. While you may feel you don't go away to use a computer, we find it useful to find out when things are open and what to do in an area, and chose the site partly because it advertised the wifi which didn't work and which would have cost £6 for two iPads to use it for 3 nights.

Also the shower on the larger field is in a room separate to the toilets and it is impossible to get dressed without getting your underwear, trousers and socks wet.

Finally although it's a big camping field, pitches are very close together and allocated in clumps with the end result that you feel very hemmed in.

The welcome was not welcoming in that after my husband had sited the Motorhome he was asked to move it.

We would definitely not stay again I am afraid, which is a pity as Dent is a lovely village with nice pubs and a couple of nice shops,

The site is well placed, almost within Dent village centre. The camping area is made up of two separate areas, the larger of which was closed when we visited, divided by a road. Only the small field next to reception was open when we stayed.

The small field slopes and has space for about 10 touring units. You'll probably want to use levelling blocks. The facilities available were restricted; only one area/block (two toilets, two urinals and two showers in the gentlemen's area were open in Feb. For example) The toilet block was unheated and showers required 20p for 4 minutes of luke-warm water.

Tariff for two adults, one campervan and no electricity was £19 per night. N. B. : £1 pppn discount on production of a Camping and Caravan member card.

Pros: Village location, quiet.

Cons: Very expensive, sloping pitches, no hard-standing available for tourers. Restricted toileting/wash facilities in winter.

Lovely site, though I agree with others it would be tricky to access with a caravan or motorhome.

Owner was very friendly and directed us to our pitch, we have an Outwell Montana and there was plenty of room. Very picturesque and in the lovely village of Dent with a couple of very nice Pubs.

Toilet and shower blocks were kept extremely clean. Will definitely visit here again.

We have just returned from a weekend visit. Upon arriving we drove into a field and had to park and then walk across the road to book in. Once booked in and paid we were shown to a pitch on the large field.

The site is split into 2 fields, the one near the farmhouse which is all caravans, and the other side of the road for tents and caravans. The facilities are ok and cleaned regularly. On the tent field there are only 2 showers, one small one for children and a larger one or you can walk across the road for a further 10 showers and other facilities.

Pros - Views were beautiful and great if your a walker/hiker

Cons - difficult to get to with a caravan, very narrow in parts, no lighting on the field just at the toilet block which was a walk for us. There is no playground on the site but there is one 5 mins walk away in the village.

We paid £27. 50 per night for 2 adults, 1 child and elec, I have never paid this much for our caravan AND the showers are 20p for 3 mins.

As nice and spacious as the site is, we will not be returning as the cost for a September visit in a tent was far too much and may account for the site not being full at all.

A fantastic campsite which was quite full over the bank holiday weekend but never felt busy. The toilet block was always clean and although we never saw cleaners, I'm sure they were going in multiple times throughout the day. Loo roll always replenished and toilets were clean. Obviously there's always those mucky campers who don't tidy after themselves to let it down but that isn't a reflection on the site owners, they do their best to keep it tip top.

The bottom field was well drained and with lush maintained grass. It had been a wet week leading up to when we pitched but although the ground was soft, it wasn't boggy and was well drained. We pitched overlooking fields and a picturesque view. Plenty of mains water points and EHU boxes.

Ideally a couple more showers would have been great but there was plenty extra in the top field. 20p gets you 4 mins of hot water.

The reception/farm shop is located in the top field, which is mainly for touring caravans by the looks of it. The farm shop has all the basics you'll need and a good selection of frozen meat which can be defrosted on request.

Dent is a very lovely village. We found the George and dragon to be the nicer of the 2 pubs and the little local shop served lovely ice cream as well as being a well stocked shop for its size.

Dent is easy to find via Sedberg although the road leading up to it is narrow. We took the road from Kirkby Lonsdale on one day. Very narrow although beautiful scenery on the way.

All in all, we'll return. There's enough to keep you entertained for a few days without having to drive and our 4 year old loved it too. There's streams, short walks, history, and a small play area/park near the green in the village.
