We were in this site two years ago and it was busy. The tent pitch was good size and have an electric hook up, the toilet can get busy at times and you have to pay for your hot water. The couple were helpful and friendly.
There were restaurants and pubs in the village which are about 5 min walk from the site.
The site was good for touring the lake district and west Yorkshire dales. Ingleton waterfalls trail is a must see, the scenery is breath taking and it is a good family day out, around 5 to 6 km and or 3 hrs walk.
I will recommend this to friends as well and may come back one day.

Quite simply this is one of the very best sites in north yorkshire we used this site in july 08 (having last used it many years ago) it was very wet but the owners had put large rubber mats out to help vehicles move. The toilets and wash room in the camping field are large, very clean and nice and warm - ample hot water at all times of day. The shower blocks over the road are excellent - 20p for a LONG HOT shower & loads of room - they also provide a bucket of disinfected water & mop so you can give your shower a wash round before & after use. The village is pretty, but it is advisable to book in advance to eat at the 2 pubs.
The field is large & mainly flat with fantastic views and loads of room for children to play - I cannot recommend this site & the friendly, professional owners too highly

I was really happy with my one night stay here. We were joined by a friend who pitched next to us without any problems. Having been spoilt at other sites I like to think the benchmark for a good site comprises of a pleasant welcome, facilities that work and are of a good standard, well kept and drained grassed areas, reasonably priced and a feeling that you would want to come back. In my experience this site has made an effort to tick all the boxes. This was to be our base for a walk around Whernside although the weather (!) dictated otherwise. The site appears to be more adult orientated although families were welcomed to the larger field, which oddly has less facilities for showering. At the time of my visit the site was no where near full so we may have benefitted from this as well. Outside the site, Dent really has little to do other than provide a nice setting for a walk and beer afterwards, so I would probably leave it a while till I take my kids (9,10). The George and Dragon pub was our preferred option with its open fire and array of Dent ales it would be rude to only stop for one! The food for around a tenner for a 2 course meal was welcome as well, it had a home cooked feel and the staff were all very nice.
So in summary yes its a good site, perhaps better for older family groups or adults, be aware of the facilities in busy times. My constructive criticism, which is not unique to this site and one that seems to annoy me in many places I go would be to spend a little more time on the appearance of the shower / toilet blocks. The floors take all the hammer so get all the attention, walls and ceilings with cobwebs could easily be attended to and make the place a little more welcoming. My only other suggestion would be to replace the mops in the showers with a squegee to dry the floor for the next person?
I'll be checking when I go back and will review again.

This is the site that we often came to as children and enjoyed immensely. However, the last childhood visit involved a severe case of food poisoning, bought on by a dodgy battered sausage from somewhere in Penrith, a sprained ankle and an aborted trip. Happy Days!
That was the 80s and I hope food standards in Penrith have improved. I don't think the site needed much improvement though and my more recent return coincided with the Dent Folk Festival.
A mere 20+ years had passed between the last time the whole family had camped together in Dent and this visit proved to be an altogether more successful trip. It was such a treat to have proper camping facilities at a festival.
The site is very well maintained and really benefits from being right in the middle of the village which, if I remember correctly, has a couple of real country pubs and also on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.

Its true this is an idyllic location for a campsite, and nothing beats stepping outside of your tent to these sorts of views first thing in the morning.
However this was not the happiest of camping trips for us. The camp site was seriously overcrowded, with woefully inadequate facilities for so many people. My overiding memory of this trip will be the queues and the overcrowding.
It did'nt help that the washing up sinks in the middle field, are placed in the toilets! This is a bad idea for many reasons, you have people queuing up for the loo and some for washing up, it becomes quite chaotic, you can't get your hubby / kids to do the drying up, you have to do it all yourself, and very very frustrating is if you have to queue to wash up in the ladies, only to find there is no queue in the mens. The washing up sinks need to be on the outside of the toilets, or dotted around the site under canopies or something.
I also found our host, Margaret to be very rude, and during my many long waits in various queues on the site, I found lots of other campers had the same opinion. They had also had 'doos/words' with her. The site was very busy and perhaps the stress of all of that had got to her. My advice - stick within your limit, don't be greedy, don't cram people in. You are not doing your customers any favours by allowing so many people onto the site. Margaret had herself lots of unhappy campers during the bank holiday weekend, The campsite wans'nt cheap, and if you are not going to provide the facilities, don't ask people to pay full whack for them.

This was our second visit to this site. We booked for over the Easter weekend with friends and family. Altogether we had 4 tents with us. When we arrived it was windy and snowing with the promise of gales. Margaret the owner was concered that we would get blown off the field or snowed in and asked us on more than one occasion if we were sure we wanted to stay, after making the decision to be fool hardy english campers we pitched our tents, much to the surprise and amazement of the rest of the visitors who were sitting snugly in their caravans. After several hours our tents were pitched and Margaret did everything she could too make our stay as comfortable as possible, even providing 'cow mats' to try and stop us getting bogged down in the mud. We had a very, very wet, windy, snowing and cold night and unfortunatley a couple of our groups tents were badly damaged during the night in the high winds, this caused us to re think our trip and we had to leave. All of this was not the fault of the owners, the site is beautiful, if exposed ! the facilities are excellent and clean at all times, the village is very quaint and has managed to maintain that country feel. We will definitely be going back, but in better weather.

Camped for a week here at the beginning of September. The area is amazing with stunning views and walks with a variety of differing degrees of difficulty. The village has a couple of pubs, one of which 'The Sun' we found to be far more friendly than the other. The facilites on the site were very well maintained and more than adequate for the amount of visitors, at the time of our visit the site was very quiet with the majority of campers having finished thier holidays. We found Margaret to be very friendly and helpful and she often stopped by for a chat, although her husband did appear to be a bit grumpy on occasions. We could not find fault with this camp and will definitley be coming back for another visit.

What a beautiful setting this site is in. Dent is very picturesque with streams, a lovely church, cobbled streets, great village store, & we had 2 lovely meals in the George & Dragon.
We were shown to the field across the road from reception where there were more tents, caravans & camper vans than I would have thought possible. The field is very exposed, & we had 3 very windy days. Had the weather been calmer it would have been an ideal setting.
The toilets are cleaned regularly, but there could be more given the number of people staying. There were 2 chemical toilets in the field next to ours, though no hand washing facilities.
I am afraid to say that on 5 seperate occasions the dealings we & our friends had with Margaret (the owner} found her to be quite rude.

Spent 3 nights in tent over Whitsun bank Holiday.
The site is actually on the edge of the village of Dent, a charming but quiet village with two good pubs and a tearoom within a couple of minutes walking distance.
Arriving for the first time is a little confusing. We found the field easily enough, but the house that looks like it should be the reception is completely unrelated to the site; Reception is 100 metres further into the village. This is combined with a small but well-stocked shop selling a range of (very nice) local produce.
The owners were very friendly and efficient, and we were soon back in the field and shown our pitch. The actual site is spread about and as far as we could see consists of a small touring field near to the reception/farmhouse, a much larger one (that we were on) on the edge of the village, an overflow field next to that and a further overflow field further along the road. While some of the pitches are flat, many are not, but all were pleasantly grassy.
Our field soon became busy, but still more tents and vans arrived. However the owners clearly had a plan because everyone was efficiently directed by staff and shown exactly where they they should camp, rather than a free-for-all.
Even so we were packed pretty tight, tighter than I would prefer although I have experienced worse.
There were ample EHUs around the field perimeter, which was a better place to pitch than the centre of the field where things were decidedly snug.
Toilet facilities were inadequate for the number of people they served - not too bad for blokes but a constant queue for females. The very small block was kept clean though.
Further toilets were available at a block close to reception, along with all the shower facilities. Dated but clean, they were overwhelmed between 8.00 and 10.30 each morning, but then quietened down a lot. Many complained about the lack of hot water during these times, even at 20p for 3 mins shower. For all but the luckiest, all facilities were a good trek, even the few water points.
The biggest criticism I have is that dishwashing sinks were almost alongside toilets, washing basins and urinals. This needs some addressing if the owners ever plan to upgrade.
If the village is picturesque then Dentdale valley is even more so, and most campers will have good views of both sides of the valley.
Overall this is a pleasant and well-situated site with helpful and pleasant staff, let down by insufficient toilets, showers and water points, but also while we were there by the sheer density of campers. If these points were addressed this would be right up my favourite sites list. My friends and I agreed that we would not rule out another visit, but perhaps at a quieter time.

Just got back from this site. Its a lovely location and a nice flat site. Not much to do in the area if you are not a walker but nice to sit and admire the views. Facilities are disappointing. The main field only has 2 ladies toilets, 2 sinks and 1 pot washing sink to serve about 100 pitches. They were however kept clean and if you don't mind waiting its okay. On the other field there are and additional 2 ladies toilets and 2 ladies showers & 3 pot washing sinks. (not much more for the men either)Margaret (the owner) is very friendly and helpful and the shop is pretty well stocked. The other let down is nowhere for the kids to play and no ball games allowed on the field. I agree on the ball games but an area could be provided for them. We had really high winds this weekend and the site is very exposed so no shelter wouldn't like to have had rain too! If i'm honest I don't think I will be going back to this site although I had a lovely weekend in all the facilities are not up to scratch and there isn't enough to do in the surrounding area other than walk.
