We stayed at this site for 3 nights but wish we had stayed here for the whole of our holiday. The wardens are lovely and very helpful. The site is well layed out, with a good mixture of hardstanding and grass, with tents, tourers, motorhomes, trailer tents and folding campers all mixed together. The toilet block is clean and the showers are the best yet. Though as someone else has said there could have been more of them. The view over to the Isle of Arran is the reason to go, especially the sunsets. The play park is only small, but it didn't seem to matter as there were plenty of kids so ours didn't get bored.
Next to the site is Culzean Castle and Gardens. It cost us a family of 5, £15 and that was for 5 days. If we hadn't been staying at the site it would have cost us £30 and I believe that was only for one day. I wish we had stayed longer in Ayr as we didn't get around all of the gardens at Culzean Castle. It was wonderful and always surrounded by amazing views.
Heads of Ayr farm park is only a few miles from the site. We had a wonderful day and we did stay all day as there was so much to see and do. It was full of trampolines all different sizes, one of them was called an air pillow, it was huge and adults were on it too. There were lots of animals to see, Meerkats, Lemas,Guinea Pigs, Parrots (that spoke), Rats, Snakes, Horses etc etc. There were a few play parks. A big sand pit with a pirates ship, with lots of buckets and spades, the little ones could dig and look for treasure. When a token was found it could be taken to the gift shop for a prize. There was also quads for adults. I think it was £24 for a family of 5, and well worth every penny.
Ayr is a big town with lots of shops and a 24hr tesco. There is so much to see and do around the area it seems a shame to go for less than a week.
A higly recommended area to visit and a must to stay at Culzean Castle.

Just returned yesterday from this stunning location. We had a pitch that faced Arran - what a view and what sunsets! The site is sloping in parts and you may need chocks for your caravan. The toilet/shower facilities were spotless although another couple of shower cubicles wouldn't have gone a miss at really busy times. i didn't use the washing-up sinks or the laundry but they looked adequate, although there was often a queue for the washing-up bowls (only 2). The kids play areas was a bit small - only one swing, a baby swing and a slide - the ground beneath them although bark chips, was very muddy as it had rained a lot. Overall I would recommend the site it was clean and tidy, there is a small shop and you can get fresh rolls there in the morning. The wardens were helpful although not terribly friendly or chatty! Nearby there is the Heads of Ayr Farm Park which the kids will love. Culzean Castle (pronounced 'cull A un') is beautiful and only a short walk away.

Stayed here during our tour of Scotland and really wish we’d allowed more than four nights for our visit. The site is located in a beautiful position on Scotland’s coast. From the site you can see Arran , Mull of Kintyre and even Ireland on a good day. While we were there we saw the most beautiful sunsets but beware of the midgies if you decide to photograph or video the sunsets. The site is set in National Trust land and is directly next to the castle. The site manager told us that a new National Trust manager had taken over at the castle and was now charging people from the campsite to visit the grounds. We couldn’t test this as we are members of the NT anyway but it was worth joining the NT just to visit this lovely castle and grounds. If you visit, make sure you take a look at the walled garden. In the time that we had, we did not really explore all of the grounds or areas available. We had just travelled from Kendal, having suffered nine days on a very sloping pitch. When we told our tale of woe to the site managers, they went out of their way to ensure we had a level pitch. What a relief it was to sit in the awning without sliding off our chairs. The nearest major town was Ayr and we spent a very pleasant day there shopping. The people in Ayr were exceptionally friendly and helpful and we spent quite a lot of time chatting to locals. The site itself is quite large and some pitches have a clear view over the sea. One group of three had arrived without their tent poles so we had company in our caravan for a few hours while their sister returned to Glasgow to pick them up. She arrived back at the site after gate locking time but the site team made sure that she could get her car into the site. It’s small personal touches like this which makes the C&CC special.

This is a fantastic campsite, just what you expect from The Caravan and Camping Club, excellent staff, exceptionally clean toilets and showers, etc etc. This is a wonderful place for a family holiday. We holidayed with our 2 and 4 year old and stayed for 11 nights which was just perfect. The site is walking distance of Culzean Castle (National Trust) and you can walk (took a while with two little ones) or drive down in 5 minutes. Highlights of the holiday were definitely visits to Port Carrick beach (within grounds of Culzean Castle) and Croy Shore beach (5 mins in car). We had the beaches to ourselves in beautiful weather, ourselves and our dog thought we were in paradise. GORGEOUS! sunsets over the Isle of Arran each evening which were just stunning. A day trip to Isle of Arran on the ferry are a must approx £8 for adults as foot passengers - our kids and the dog were free! We were face to face with a wild seal and saw dolphins playing just off shore which made my life never mind my holiday! Ayr is a lovely town if you need the big shops, (huge Tescos there), Maybole and Girvan have Somerfields. Girvan isn't up to much really but has a leisure centre if you want to go swimming on those rainy days. Peace, quiet, no queues, lovely weather, rockpools, wildlife, gorgeous Scottish folk, Irn Bru, if you like some or all of these you MUST go to Culzean Castle. Enjoy.

Have visited this site a number of times now and I could not fault it, the staff are great, the facilities clean and just what you would expect from the club. We are reasonably local, an hour can get us here so we don't do much exploring from the site.
The castle is the main reason to visit, with kids of 8 and 10 we can walk in and out of the castle from the site and if you take a picnic you will be there all day. There is a great park, lake and the beach too. There is also entertainment at weekends during the summer such as medieval jousting and battle reenactments which really involve the kids. We even used the site for our sons 8th birthday, with 5 boys sleeping in the awning I apologise to other visitors that weekend late in June.
Great site , Great staff, Watch those midgies.

This is another one of our favourite sites, its within 30 miles of where we store our van so very quick to get to. Steve and Sue the site managers are fantastic, if you need something they will get it for you for the next morning The facilities are all very clean and well maintained. Our kids love this site and disappear the second we arrive there. They have made friends with other regulars and look forward to seeing them regularly. Most pitches are reasonably level some are sloping. TV reception is good We usually visit this site at least once a month

Having just returned from this site I needed to tell you all about the highs and low's of Culzean Campsite. It is situated in the most wonderful place I’ve been in Scotland. The views and sunset over the isle of Arran were breath taking. If you are thinking of going may suggest you go as early as you can as there is so much to do. Cost isn't too bad (foot passengers 2x ad 1x ch £23 ret). The country Park grounds are beautiful and I could have spent most of the day there. The site it self clean and tidy, what you would expect from the C&CC. The wardens (Steve & sue) very helpful and friendly. I got attacked by corn fly’s as the local farmer was cutting the corn in the adjacent field. Between the two of them they managed to find me some mossie repellent and Steve even given us his last three weetabixs. Only disappointing thing to say about the site is it’s a sloping site and there is only two washing up sinks and one wasn’t working. All I would say to that is, just look at the scenery! The site is child friendly and all the kids on site were having a ball. They didn't mined it being a sloping site as they rolled down them. Even though it’s a four hour drive from Washington Tyne & Wear. I would definitely consider visiting again.
Lastly I’ve got to mention Jock’s Restaurant in Kirkmichael. The food is to die for the best steak pie ever! And reasonably priced.

I visited this site last year and had a great time, so decided to go back for a week this time, was fab. The wardens are very friendly, even willing to help a single parent to put up her tent, cant say any better than that. They keep the toilets very clean and facilities are great even a little shop on site for fresh milk and rolls in the mornings. The scenery is amazing and the sunsets are unbelievable. I visited Stranraer too, beautiful scenery going there was really good watching the ferries too. There is a place called the Heads of Ayr park for the kids you can spend the whole day there and they would love it. There is also and adventure play park at the castle for the kids too which I think was free. It's so peaceful here I'm going back again in couple of weeks time, cant wait.

Just returned form culzean after spending 4 nights at the site. What can I say , it was just heaven total peace and quiet, very friendly and helpful wardens and it was very child friendly as we have a 6 yr old and a 2 yr old. Very good play park and just loads of space for them to run about and make friends. Would have stayed for another 4 nights if I could have, I have a funny feeling that we'll be going back sooner rather than later.

Lovely site with lovely views. The sunsets over Arran were beautiful. Plenty of space between pitches. Could spend a full day in the country park no bother (free entry if camping at the site). Great dog walk . Staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely return.
