We have just bought our first caravan from ebay and were desperate to try it out so booked one night here as it is about an hour from Glasgow. Staff were very helpful, escorting us to our pitch and showing us how to set up and telling us to come back and pay once we had a wee cuppa. There are a few items for sale at reception e.G. Matches, ice-lollies but not a shop as such.
The location is very picturesque and we had beautiful weather on the Saturday. In the evening we went for a walk in the Castle grounds. You get a discount to visit the castle when you stay at the site.
Toilet & shower facilities were fine.
Would definitely recommend this site.

This is a fantastic location for a campsite. On the grounds of a stunning castle with views over to Arran and Ailsa Craig.
The basic layout of the site is that the touring caravans get the hard standing pitches on the outside (this includes all the fantastic views) and the tents are located in the middle (closer to the toilet block). The tent pitches themselves are flat enough and certainly drained well as although we had some wet weather we did not have any problems.
Toilets were looking a bit dated but were very clean with plenty of hot water at most times of the day. There were a couple of sinks for washing the dishes which never seemed too busy.
The staff booking us in were fairly friendly, the check in process was very efficient and we were led to our pitch by the warden on his bicycle. The shop stocks some locally produced eggs, bacon and sausages so the breakfasts we top notch.
We spent a fantastic day in the grounds of Culzean Castle and then down to the beach (we had a large stretch to ourselves). It really is worth a visit for that alone. We didn't actually tour the castle itself as we have a couple of young children and we felt it wasn't worth the money to simply run round chasing the kids to ensure they didn't damage any priceless artefacts.
Good base for a day in Ayr too and also an opportunity to visit the Electric Brae (if you fancy standing and scratching your head for a few minutes trying to work out what you are supposed to see).
We will probably go back for a visit someday - the views really are worth it.

What a treat to find - The camp-site had amazing views to Arran, we stayed on hard pitch number one and all on that row had this wonderful view. Culzean Castle is next to the site, fantastic walks in the grounds with deer, lakes, picnic area and the castle. We walked down to the beach every day through the forest and seen lots of wild life.
The toilet block was clean and comfortable with laundry facilities.
The wardens were the most helpful of all the sites I have visited, gave the place a friendly atmosphere.
It was perfect to wake up and have breakfast looking out to Arran and on an evening with a glass of wine. We will definitely return to this site it was absolutely wonderful.

Stayed for a few nights in the last week of July. The site was very busy and the staff rather unhelpful. Lots of children playing football around the site. The castle and grounds are excellent, and it is possible to walk through the grounds in the evening down to the village of Maiden and back. Note however that if you walk down to the castle from the site you will miss the pay booth at the entrance. This means that you will get access to the grounds for free, but if you want to visit the castle, you will have to pay full price. They will not accept the discount voucher provided by the campsite.
Don't miss Crossruagal Abbey just outside Maybole, a real gem.

This is a lovely site and a great base for exploring the area. The castle is an amazing place to visit and with the 1/2price ticket with staying onsite lasts a week is great. A day out to the Isle of Arran is highly recommended but you need to plan and hire a car we didn't and use the bus service which was ok if you like racing buses!. Heads of Ayr farm park had a big thumbs up with the kids

This has to be one of the most beautiful settings for campsite if you are over looking the sea. And with a very big country park right next door.[bikes would be really handy to get in and out of the Culzean castle country park which is great for the Kids and Adults. If you are an National trust Member it is free or if you are camping at the above site you get in for half price if you keep your reciept.
We stayed here for 4 Nights with my wife and two young kids 8,4. On our way home.
Staff where very friendly and helpful. The site is very old with very basic Electric hook up and no water at every pitch. This is a site The Camping and Caravanning Club need to spend some Money on.
We where pitched at pitch number 1 beside the Adventure play park which is very small. Apart from a tent and car pitched very close between us and the ply park. It can get very noisy at times, But I must say by 10.30 and 11pm there was not a sinner about. We had our Tourer facing out to sea which was really beatiful. Pitches In the Middle as you drive in are not marked out but seems to be Pitch where you like. Also to Empty your Toilet Cassette we had to put it in the car and drive down to the Sluice Room.
The toilet blocks where very old but Clean. Showers do not have much power or heat in them. But the Staff cope with what they have.
With the CCC Advertising that is into eco friendly solutions how they do not have Solar panels for hot Water is very strange.
Overall a enjoyable stay
Things to do, Croy Shore, Dunure castle and park which is great on a nice day. Place to Eat is the Balgrath Restaurant on the Dunure road to Ayr. If you go Between 5 and 6.30 Early supper [ES on the Menu] meals are Half price. Food was really nice Child friendly and a Great play area to the rear for the Kids.

First time out camping and if all the sites are as good as this one, will be out again soon. The site is very clean, toilets clean, and staff were nice.
I could see out to the sea from my pitch. And the castle is really nice to spend the day. My 13 year old son enjoyed the experience but my 16 year old got a bit bored. But then that's cos hes sixteen.
Overall a nice chill out break. Would go back

Culzean castle C&CC site is right within Culzean castle Country Park, the Visitor centre for the castle is ten min walk through the country park, but do take your site receipt from C&CC, as this allows you big discount on entry to grounds and castle all week, you do have to ask though as they do not advertise this The site itself is very sloping except for the hard standings, and a area at the top of the site, the facilities needed a a bit of TLC to bring them up to scratch and if you was on the hard standings or grass at the top of the site, you needed to put your hiking boots on to go to the toilet / shower facilities etc, they were that far away, and the chemical toilet point was a car journey away literally, or a climb up a steep bank to a dirt road Dog walking from site was very good, the area itself, has very little apart from golf courses and the castle itself. I was disappointed with this site and area and could not ever see me going back

This is my second visit to this lovely well kept site again the staff are really helpful. The kids weren't too fussed with the playpark as not much in it but great for playing with the bikes. There are fantastic walks with beautiful views out to sea.
Price was a bit steep per night @ £31 with EHU ( maybe look into a CCC membership )
The site is very well maintained and facilities are spotless.
For 50p the kids get a sheet to go on a hunt to find 18 hidden signs which kept them amused for a good while.
Croy shore beach is great if the weather is good and the rock pools @ Dunure are also a good stop ( just a few miles along the costal road )
Also had a fab day @ heads of Ayr farm park £28 fam of 4 but well worth it.
Overall a highly recommended site !

Just spent 4 nights at this site with 4 kids. I echo previous posts that this is a friendly, well maintained site. Although there is not a lot for children to do, the swings/slide area provide a meeting area for them. The shop is very basic. Maybole has a Somerfield and a good chip shop. If you are a dog owner, this site is very dog friendly. Dogs are always on a leash. Visit to Culzean Castle and its grounds are a must see. Will return again.
