The weekend trip was only our second outing. The idea was to camp somewhere which was easily accessible from our home and see what camping in November is like.
We were well received on arrival and shown to a corner of a smaller field called the paddock. The owner was rather surprised that we didn't want an EHU. The position was fine and it was a bit of a race against time to get everything sorted before it got dark.
We chose to go and eat in the local pub and the meal was good pub fare.
It rained in the night and my wife was delighted to hear the rain on the canvas something we had not experienced before in our new tent.
We cooked an excellent breakfast and it was mild enough to have it al fresco. Lunch again was pleasant outside.
We went to Cambridge in the afternoon, my wife has very pleasant childhood memories of the city. We hadn't been to Charlie Chan's Chinese restaurant fo a long time and we had an excellent meal.
Sunday was brighter than Saturday so al fresco breakfast and lunch.
There was a caravan rally on the larger field. However, apart from dramatic lighting displays around their vehicles we were not aware that anyone was there. My wife asked me what caravanners do on rallys and I'm afraid I had to tell her I had no idea.
The toilet facilities are handy and good. The only problem at this time of year is that after they are cleaned the floors remain very damp all day.
The shop is well stocked.
The site is what we require for easy weekend camping and we intend to return with our nine year old grandson and other members of our large family. When we bring them we will use an EHU.

I spent a weekend here meeting up with some family members so it was chosen for convenience rather than for any other reason.
Now, the site is really level - which is a definite plus - but a bit too open for my liking, unless you're around the edges with the trees.
The site was kept clean and there are recycling facilities for rubbish. As for the facilities themselves.
Yes, they were clean, but I do agree with another reviewer about the doors needing a scrub to get rid of grimy finger marks. There are only 4 loos and showers and sinks, and for the number of people staying, I think there needs to be a few more.
The washing-up area needs more sinks too, as there are only two very large, very deep sinks, which are back-breaking to wash-up in, and being only two, created a queue at times. And the hot water ran out frequently.
There is a communal freezer, but it might be good to have a sign announcing that and, advising what to do with blocks: take frozen ones and leave your own behind or, put your own in a bag and expect to keep them and not take others?
The on-site shop is also the village shop and is well-stocked with food, drink, bakery goods, stationery etc, and some camping items too.
Would I go again or recommend it?
For a reasonably-priced stay if you want to chill out, sit by your tent, fly kites and let the children run around (play area also) - it's great. For me, I like something a bit more scenic and less open, but it depends on your plans and preferences.
All in all, a good value no-frills site in a quiet rural location.

We have just returned from a three night stay at Top End Farm and enjoyed it so much we thought it only fair to add a review for others considering a visit.
We found the site to be extremely well tended and clean, with lots of open space even when busy. The park area was great for kids, especially the skateboard half pipe which my son was over the moon with, there was a big boot slide which could have benefited from a tidy up inside as it was a bit nasty for my toddler but wasn't a problem for older children. I particularly liked the fact that the park was in view due to it's position and it was great for kids to socialise safely. The staff were very friendly and I have to say that due to the fact that the shop was the village store it was the best stocked campsite shop I have ever seen, with just about everything you could possibly need from cough medicine to coconut milk. Steaks, ribs, mince, veg you name it. The fresh onion bajhee's were delicious and delivered daily along with huge homemade scotch eggs and sausage rolls. Even reasonably price wine at £5-6, not bad for a site shop.
The kids went crazy over the cheap bags of sweets, and with lemonade at 29p who could complain.
The toilets and showers were immaculate, if you keep pushing the shower button every 8 seconds it stays on!.
We ventured off campus but the kids were a bit restless due to the warm weather and it was more relaxing back at the campsite where they could do their thing and we could chill.
Do to the fab facilities and the fact I could always knock up a decent meal from the shop without spending a fortune we were more than happy to stay put. We also had a lovely Indian takeaway one night from Eaton Spice if my memory serves me correctly which was delivered directly to us in 45mins.
On Saturday evening a fish and chip van arrived much to the delight of the kids, and they enjoyed the wares emmensely, one tip though get there before 5. 30 or else there's a constant queue. We would definitely go again if only to completely relax and enjoy watching the kids make friends. We have visited a few, and this was one of the best. Must add as an after thought, the cost for staying at this site was amazing value, we only intended to stay for 2 nights but stayed an extra night.

We are a family of four two adults and two children and met my sister and her family there. They were staying in their motorhome.
The first thing we noticed was how well kept the site is. The on site shop was among the best stocked I have ever seen on a site and the prices very reasonable.
The people running the site are very friendly and try their best to keep things running smoothly.
The showers and toilets are very modern however we didn't find them very clean. This could however be due to the site been very busy.
The Thursday night was quiet and we sat out after dinner looking at the stars whilst the kids played on the field and park. This is a very busy site with children and therefore is very noisy however is you have children and this doesn't bother you it's ok.
We did have a lovely curry delivered to us during our stay from a local takeaway the menu was available at the site. I would return to the site but perhaps a little more out of peak season.

Spent 4 nights here from bank holiday saturday, have been before around 18mths ago as the site is only 30 mins or so from home. There has been some noticeable improvement with the revamped facilities and the planting around the large field area. The on site store is great, and the fresh baked goods tasty.
Yes it was really busy until Monday lunchtime and somewhat noisy at night but the weather was good so people spent eves outside enjoying it.
Maybe a bin or two jotted around the field especially by the play area may have stopped people throwing their rubbish on the ground and in the hedges.
This is definitely a site I will return to, the local area has a few nice parks to visit and plenty of places around to eat. So if you like a quiet relaxing break then I would recommend just not on a bank holiday.

Just spent another fantastic weekend at Top End Farm. We have been visiting this site a couple of times a year for about four years now.
It is just such a great place to go to if you have kids, one great big field with a play park in the corner. We can easily just let them run free, they make friends instantly and only come back when they're hungry. You know they are safe as there is only one entrance/ exit so as long as they are old enough to know to stay in the field there is no problem.
On the other hand, if you don't have kids, I wouldn't bother - they are up at the crack of dawn and a bit noisy!
The shop is well stocked, as it is a village store as well so sells everything you need at a reasonable price.
It's a family run business and the staff are really friendly.
The best place to camp is within sight of the park but not too close if you have younger kids as the older kids tend to still congregate at the park well after dark and my younger kids have complained in the past that they can't get to sleep because of the noise.
You can light fires which is also a big plus point. There is no curfew which is a good thing if you like to stay up and chat around the fire, but a bad thing if you get put next to a noisy lot playing music till the early hours.
And its just great value for money at £10 per night for non electric and an extra few pounds for electric. No extras for extra cars, people, gazebos etc.

What a fantastic site. The campsite is huge and because we went midweek it was very quite. The play area for the children is a life saver, we were pitched close enough to keep an eye on the children but far enough away so we couldn't hear them.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and guided us to our pitch when we arrived. The shop is well stocked and the prices aren't too bad either. Could possibly do with a bit of a tidy up and clean though, we did spot several dirty mugs and plates sitting on the shelves which I guess the staff had used.
The shower/toilet block was very clean and bright and the washing up/food prep area was also clean and practical with two huge sinks and drainers to match.
I am looking forward to returning to this site in the near future because we had a very relaxing two night stay. I am currently trying to organise a three night break there with two other families.
Well done Top End Farm, keep up the good work and we'll be back time after time.

Spent over a week here and had a fantastic time. The owners were helpful and considerate. There were problems on the first night with some other campers but this was sorted out by the owners and police first thing the next morning. The Farm shop is a fantastic resource. They were in the process of updating the chemical waste disposal point when we were there and the showers and toilets were always clean. The play park is a fantastic resource for the children. I would recommend this site to anyone. One small thing and it is by no means a criticism is that the site would benefit from laundry/clothes washing facilities. Fully intend to stay here again.

We decided to try out this site (after reading the positive reviews on here, and a recommendation from someone else) as a local option for us to have short breaks with our tent whenever we get the chance.
The site is only half an hour's drive from us, and very reasonable at 12. 75 per night, and no per person, dog, child etc. Which is very refreshing when you have some of each!
On arrival, we booked in at the shop, and despite them being very busy, phones ringing, shop customers etc, were given a friendly welcome, we were shown to our pitch, right near to the facilities, which suits us, no trekking in the night after a few glasses of wine!
If you wanted to be more secluded there are plenty of nice areas all over the site.
We opted for electricity, luckily we had a long lead, as some of the pitches are some distance from the electric point.
It is a nice open aspect site, with trees and green hedges all around, and plenty of space for children to run about, the play equipment seemed really good, especially the skateboard half pipe, which seemed to attract the most children, playing till late was the norm, so if you don't like noise, pitch well away, you can still keep an eye on your children from anywhere on site. Most children just love to run around and have some freedom, this is an excellent site for that.
As we were putting up our tent, some people who were just leaving from elsewhere said it was a nightmare where our pitch was with noise from the facilities, which worried us a bit, but as we were there during the week, thought it might not be too bad, and indeed it was no problem at all, though I suspect it may be a different story at the weekend, which apparently was fully booked.
The pitch was very spacious, no problems with room for a large tent with extension, and room for the car and the trailer. We were lucky to have good weather for our stay, the grassy pitch showed very little sign of wear and tear so I think the drainage must be good to not end up with muddy 'bald patches'.
The shop was extensively stocked, as it was also the village shop, there was everything you might need, and the rest!
The toilet and shower facilities were good, spacious and well laid out, showers lovely and hot (and free!), plenty of soap in the dispensers, and no shortage of toilet paper, the one and only gripe I had was that while basic cleanliness was maintained, it could have been so much better, they did clean the toilets and mop the floor, but the sinks and mirrors were not touched, and there were grubby patches on the insides of the toilet doors which would not have taken long to remove, and a better and more frequent clean would make a really nice facility even better. There was a mop provided to give the shower the once over after use, but not all campers bothered, probably the same ones who left toilet paper all around the toilets.
Please do not let this put you off, these are only very minor points, it is far better to give an honest opinion. Perhaps some notices asking people to leave the facilities as they would wish to find them may help.
One thing which was great were the disabled facilities, a designated separate wet room and toilet, and ramp access to both this and the shop.
The dishwashing facility was fine, with a freezer for campers to use for icepacks and storing frozen food, which was a great asset.
The facilities were being upgraded to include a new Elsan point whilst we were there, so they are obviously seeking to improve and develop their site.
The site was not noisy at night, although as we were leaving on the Friday, lots of people were arriving, so I expect there could be more noise at weekends. There were lots of people with dogs, so our little dog was happy and made friends, I never saw any dog mess left around, and there were notices saying that you would be asked to leave if you were found to not pick up after your dog.
The area around the site has lots of lovely villages as well as being close to St Neots for shopping, we visited the Museum in St Neots, which was interesting and not expensive at £2 for adults and £1 for children.
There is a pub called Rivermill 10 minutes away from the site, situated by the river, weir and a lock, which another camper recommended to us, we had lunch there, very good food, and reasonable prices, on a nice day sitting outside, what could be better, we walked the dog by the river afterwards, and watched the boats going through the lock.
I am sure that there are plenty of other places to visit, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are booked to go back in a couple of weeks for another midweek break, the children loved it, and are bringing friends next time, I suspect we may become regulars!
I recommend this site highly for a very reasonably priced break in pleasant surroundings, with a relaxed friendly family atmosphere, and all you could need to just pitch and enjoy.

Excellent weekend! the best weather we could have wished for. The owners were very lovely, their were friendly and very helpful. The shop on site is wicked! sells just about everything.
Children really enjoyed playing in the park, and the toilets and showers were nice and clean.
Overall it was peaceful and relaxing and the children were safe and we all loved it and would and have recommended this site to anyone, young or old.
There was a rowdy bunch of people who stayed there the same weekend as us and on the friday they had a big party and got kicked off site the next morning which made a lot of campers happy!
Top end farm is a top notch camping Site!
