Unusually for us we booked this site back in January (we are normally a bit more last minute). There were only 2 pitches still available which was a bit surprising, but having been to the site we can see why.
Chain Bridge is a small site - only 16 pitches - and many of the people there were 'regulars'. Despite this it wasn't at all cliquey and everyone was very friendly. The owners are very laid back and we hardly saw them during our visit but they are around if you need them. This suited us and wasn't at all a problem, but if you are used to a 'meet and greet' approach you may find it a bit disconcerting. We also liked the lack of signs setting out the 'rules' of the site. It was nice to be treated as an adult and everyone treated the facilities and other campers with respect without being told to do so!
The facilities as a whole are very good with the showers rating as FANTASTIC! The previous reviewers weren't exaggerating! There are only 2 shower cubicles but we'd never had to queue. The pitches are a really generous with water and electric to each and there is a good space between units so you don't feel at all crowded.
The site itself is only 2 miles or so from the A1 but if feels as though it is a world away from the hustle and bustle of a busy road. It does make it a really good base from which to explored the North Northumberland coast and the northern tip of the National Park. Edinburgh was only 45 minutes to the park and ride.
If we had to nit pick this site would be even more perfect if there was a pub within easy walking distance. There are some very good pubs in the area, but a visit involves driving. Also the one area where the signage may need to be improved is in the laundry. We ended up putting our washing through 2 cycles (at double the cost) because the instructions weren't entirely clear.
Overall however this is a really great site. If you are thinking of visiting the area then we would thoroughly recommend it - just make sure you book early!

We recently visited this site after choosing a holiday in Northumberland. Upon arrival our name was on a board at the entrance stating which pitch to set up on, we did not see the owner until the following day as there is no reception area. The site is small and very neat and tidy with a mix of different sized pitches, ours was a smaller one but plenty big enough for our van and awning. There was torrential rain on the second day and the grass part of the pitch was flooded but thankfully drained away quite well. There are some nice touches at the site like the TV room, homemade cakes, small selection on provisions, large showers which are warm and powerful, free wifi. The site is very quiet with little or no noise from the road, it's right next door to the honey farm which is a nice place to visit and the bus cafe is great. There is also a nice pub called the fishers arms in horncliffe which is around 15 mins walk away and the food is good pub grub. My only negative (and it's being picky) is that the communal areas are in need of some tlc, the TV room had unfinished painting and pealing wall paper and the sofas are definitely past their best, a bit of tidying up and it would look fab.

What a gem! Very quiet site with excellent facilities. We had pitch 1 which was next to the road but very large and private with little disturbance from the road except for one night when a noisy party stood outside waiting for a taxi (from the site owner's birthday party). Facilities were around the corner at the far end of the site but not too far. Several 'groups' in various vans at the far end but no disturbance. A great stopover. Berwick is a short drive away and is an idyllic small town. Leave a full day to explore.

18 months ago, I reviewed this as 'a gem' and if anything, it's got even better - you can now buy some food (eggs, milk, bacon, home baking etc) via an honesty box. The site is hard to fault! We recommend walking down to the Union Bridge and across the border to read the fascinating history of this important wee bridge, on a board on the Scottish side. Wouldn't recommend trying to take a motorhome over it though! it's 6ft 6in wide with a right angle bend to start. But Paxton House country park nearby is worth a visit - it's in walking or cycling distance, or drive the long way round past Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Lovely small and popular site which we have waited ages to visit. Definitely need to book in advance!
Owner was friendly and helpful and facilities very good and clean. Showers superb as others have commented. Couldn't get tv reception from our pitch but enjoyed watching Strictly in the wee tv lounge!
Site is very quiet - no noise from passing traffic.
Short drive into Berwick which has usual shops etc. Site is next door to Honey Farm (although a totally separate business). This is well worth a visit and is free. Loved the tea and cakes on the double decker bus and of course bought some of the delicious honey. Super walks nearby so would be ideal for dog owners.
Will look forward to returning to this site and the honey farm next season.

Chose this site as the WiFi is free and it sounded quiet. The silence was deafening. Only three others on site and not a peep out of anyone. Booked at short notice via email, very fast reply. Chose a pitch overlooking the surrounding countryside. At night the sky was close to perfect for looking at stars, only a bit of light pollution from Berwick. The site has lights at the power outlets, otherwise a torch would be essential. A small compact site all with hard standing. The 'block' is a converted barn, the highlight being hot and powerful showers with underfloor heating, so no freezing feet. Not far from A1, so had day out to Edinburgh via Park N Ride. Did I mention the hot and powerful showers? Oh and a proper shower cubicle, so no being trapped by a shower curtain - bliss.

Chain Bridge Touring Caravan Site is one of twenty-eight independent, family operated sites grouped into the Tranquil Touring Parks organisation. As such, it readily meets the aims of the Tranquil Touring Parks to provide exclusively adult sites, warm welcomes, peaceful locations, clean, high-grade facilities and care for the environment and wildlife.
Chain Bridge proved an ideal location from which to visit the numerous tourist attractions in Northumberland and, briefly, Scotland, across the Union Chain Bridge over the River Tweed between Horncliffe, Northumberland and Fishwick in the Scottish Borders.
The facilities are excellent and continuing improvements are planned to enhance further a site which can already be thoroughly recommended.

Have just returned from our third visit this year so that should say it all really!
Beautiful location for those who like peace and quiet with walks by the river (we spotted an otter, heron and salmon) and across the nearby Chainbridge into Scotland. For those feeling more energetic you can walk along the river all the way to the town of Berwick (sign says 7 miles, felt like more!) with plenty to see and do when you get there. We've walked on both sides of the river to Berwick and the easiest one (we think) is to cross the Chainbridge and look for the little gate immediately on the right signposted 7miles to Berwick.
There are no shops in the nearby village of Horncliffe and a pub which only opens from 6pm -10pm. If you want to get away from it all then this is the perfect site. The area is perfect for cyclists (very little road traffic on quiet lanes) and we have found drivers to be courteous with friendly waves from farmers as we go along. We cycled to Holy Island (checking tide times beforehand) Bamburgh, the lovely villages of Etal and Ford, further down to Coldstream and lots of other villages in between!
A gem of a site with adequate facilities for the amount of pitches. No separate mens/womens facilities however not a problem for us (never had to wait) and showers are free with washing machines available, a tv/reading room and lots of info on local places to eat/visit etc. Owners work hard to keep the site looking well maintained with flowers/shrubs etc and are friendly without being intrusive. What more can I say? Looking forward to our next visit!

Just back from this fantastic site. Love the idea of it being adult only, in fact its named in tranquil sites book. I had my 2 labradors with me and there are lots of choices for walks from the site. And a few with a swim at the end for the boys. Cross the bridge and there is a nice little riverside walk to paxton house, we were lucky enough to see the ghillies netting salmon just outside the big house
The site is very clean and the pitch we had was very spacious, van, awning and car on the gravel. Just like the last posting i would suggest to have some rock pegs handy.
Toilet block is clean and tidy. There is all facilities under one roof.
There is a book inside with all local eatery's. And ones where dogs are allowed
It is just a few minutes drive into berwick for co-op, asda and m&s food for stocking up.
Honey bee farm is next door. Big double decker bus for cup of tea and scones and sandwiches. There is also a selection of vintage vehicles and memorabilia.
Will definitely book up for another visit

This is a little gem of a site. Being adult only makes it a bit quieter all day. If you like walking then there are plenty places for you to go from leaving the site. It is an ideal base for exploring the North east or into Scotland.
The site itself is very clean and plenty of room on your pitch. One thing I would suggest is to have some rock pegs handy. The hard standing is great but if you putting an awning up onto it then these will be needed. The owners are easy to see and live in the big house on the side of the site.
Toilet block is lacking in nothing. A TV room, washing up area, microwave, washing machine area, showers and toilets, all under one roof at the end of the site.
The site is next to the Honey bee farm and you do get the odd one or two people taking the wrong turning. In the big double decker bus they know how to make a good cup of tea and scones. No need to worry about the bees unless you are allergic to them.
A great site and quiet and we will be trying to get booked in again in the near future.
