We stayed at Chainbridge Caravan site for 3 weeks. What a lovely site but the icing on the cake are the Wardens Kirsti and Paul. They are a credit to the site and could not do enough for you. The facilities are great and the showers are excellent. There were provisions in the fridge should you run out which were very useful. Fresh eggs were also available. Also Kirsti's homemade cakes were available every day. Money just to be put in the honesty box. We had not visited this area before but despite the weather we found loads of places to visit and when the weather was dry and sunny the beaches were absolutely fantastic. We did visit Cragside which is a very interesting place to visit. We had a meal a couple of times at The Salmon which is not too far from the site and we found the meals quite enjoyable. Could also recommend the boat trip around the Farne Islands.
We would have no hesitation in visiting the Chainbridge Caravan site if we were in the area again.

This was our second visit and once again we were not disappointed with our stay. The new wardens Kirsti and Paul were excellent and very helpful in every way. The facilities were spotless. The cakes wonderful, in fact we could not find anything to complain again. We will be back

Just had a fab week at Chainbridge site. Plenty of walking done with our dogs along the banks of the Tweed.
The site is well run by Kirsty &Paul who try to accommodate you in any way they can. Even to the point of baking scrumptious cakes and providing a few essentials should you run out.
The site is immaculate and the 'shower block' is more like an annexe with a few home comforts.
Best showers I've ever had ! Hot hot. Power showers. And not a trace of wet / damp floors normally associated with communal shower blocks. Underfloor heating takes care of that. 😏
All in all a lovely well kept site which we will visit again. Fab fab fab!👍👍👍👍👍

Just back from a 6 night stay. We have been many times before and will keep on returning as it is perfect for us getting out on our bikes and into the country lanes. There is a bus into Berwick-upon-Tweed which runs twice a day which you can catch in the nearby village of Horncliffe. The new on site wardens have stocked the information area with all you need to know about places to visit and bus timetables. Kirstie, the warden kept us supplied with home baking, (delicious!) and there is an honesty box for local eggs, cakes, drinks, sundries etc. Kirstie is very knowledgeable on the local area and comes round to check that everything is ok for you. The wardens are obviously working hard to ensure the site looks pleasant with flowers and neat hedges etc. The local pub in Horncliffe is under new management and appears to be open a lot more than previously which is good for a walk for a meal. Immaculate site, friendly wardens, beautiful countryside, cant wait for our next visit!

Just back from a visit to this lovely site with my sons. We visited at the very end of March so it was very quiet on site with only a couple of other units there. All pitches are hard standing so you will need decent pegs and a footprint groundsheet to be on the safe side (we had 2). Although mostly pea gravel it pays to check and we removed quite a few larger pointy stones from our pitch before we set up the tent. The pitches are almost completely flat. I only noticed a slight slope when I went to bed and most of the people in vans hadn't used blocks as far as I could tell. Generally the site was well kept, the grass between pitches neatly mown and hedges trimmed. There were tubs of flowers around as well. Each pitch has EHU and water and we found slabs for raising BBQs off the ground on each pitch as well. It was too cold for us to want to have a BBQ though!
The site is really easy to find, close to the A1, close to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Follow the signs for the Honey Farm and you won't go wrong.
Facilities are among the best I have seen. Only 3 toilets and 2 showers but there was never a queue. The showers were hot and had good pressure and there was enough space for a chair and to get dressed without always bumping into things. What with the under floor heating this is rather better than I have at home! The toilets and showers are in a block which includes a laundry (washing machines and tumble dryers - not used by us), TV room and a washing up area with a microwave and kettle and a sofa. There is also information about things to do and places to go and menus from local restaurants and takeaways. This included local maps and details of tide times - vital information if you plan a trip to Holy Island. The whole block was kept spotless. There was also an honesty box for eggs, cake, milk and sausages. The eggs were lovely. We had eggs for breakfast 3 times while we were there.
Locally there is lots to see and to do. Berwick is an interesting place, then there is Holy Island (check tide times), Paxton House, various castles and the border towns along the Tweed valley. For nature lovers there are lots of birds, St Abbs Head is an easy drive, and seals, otters and porpoises can also be seen locally, you can take a trip to the Farne Islands as well. Edinburgh is 50 minutes by train from Berwick.
Parking in Berwick is simple, you buy a parking disc (£1) and use and re-use it as needed. We never had a problem finding somewhere to park.
There are lots of places to eat close by. The Fisher's Arms at Horncliffe is a gentle stroll. Take a torch for an evening visit - it is very dark as there are no street lights (the site is on the edge of the Northumberland Dark Sky Park). Apparently the pub has recently changed hands, but the quality of the food was great and we felt very welcome. The second night we were there somebody was playing traditional music in the bar.
The warden Kirstie was lovely. She welcomed us when we arrived and was full of local information and advice. She checked we had everything we needed and offered to lend binoculars for seal watching and a heater when the weather turned a bit nasty.
We would go back to this site like a shot. Not only is the site great, but the location is excellent; it's absolutely quiet, no road noise or anything (apart from the occasional tractor) and there is plenty to do. We haven't seen or done anything like as much as we wanted. We will be back.

Having read various reviews of this site we were looking forward to a relaxing week (8 days actually). First thing to note if you do visit is to follow the signs for the Honey Farm which is next door but don't worry about the width restriction as the site entrance is well before this.
First impressions were OK but not as expected. This being a Tranquil site that is what we expected, not the screaming kids in the play area of the Honey Farm which were just through the hedge, this went on all weekend.
My main gripe is that for an advertised four star site the toilets can only be described as needing a darn good clean. At floor level white mastic has been used to seal between the vinyl floor covering and the skirting board, this is now a dirty yellow. The drain from the sink to the wall looked like it has never seen a duster. In the 8 days we were on the site the toilets were only cleaned definitely twice but maybe three times to the point were there was no toilet paper.
The is an area with washing machines and tumble dryers along with a sitting area with a TV. There is a table with plenty of brochures about the local area.
Yes this is a site that is in a perfect location and providing the owners keep it up to standard could be really good but in honesty an owner that lives over 20 miles away and only seems to visit to collect money is not what I would expect from a four star site. Yes I understand that we were there a week or so before the end of the season but that does not excuse lack of hygiene when you are still paying the full rate.

Management response: The owners would like to people to know that we have new wardens this year (2016) - Kirsti and Paul, with Nina and Patrick popping in regularly to welcome friends old and new! They have some great ideas and we are very sure you will be very well looked after.
We would like to apologise for the disruption last year, when we were moving and Patrick had started full time on the river. The poor reviews at that time, whilst valid, are not representative of our site and it is difficult to fix things that you haven't been made aware of! I'm sure this won't happen in the future! |

We really loved this site. It was small and well laid out, the facilities were clean and well kept. The staff were very helpful, we will be returning again in the future. We loved the Honey Farm next door and it was a great opportunity to purchase real honey and have coffee in the tea room bus.

Just returned from a wonderful week at Chain Bridge touring site. The facilities were excellent, 3 toilets and 2 showers and although the site was busy on a weekend you never had to wait for either. There was plenty of information for places to visit and eat etc, and large well equipped washing up area, laundry and library, all in all very good. We saw the warden on our arrival and the owner once during the week, but their mobile numbers were available for any emergencies. Also very well based for visiting the whole of the Northumbrian coastline. Although we really enjoyed our stay (i think the brilliant weather helped) the only downside for us was the noise from the children's play area at the honey farm next door, if you are sited near this then it can get quite noisy, although the farm closes at 5pm. All in all, apart from this a great site with very good facilities.
