June 2005 After reading some of the previous reviews I was a bit worried as we had booked a pitch with EHU. I had visions of rolling down a hill. However I was very pleasantly surprised. Yes some of the EHU pitches were a bit slopey but not too bad and we found a lovely flat pitch. The site is very clean with plenty of toilet blocks which are clean and stocked with loo rolls. I have only 2 complaints really. 1) The directions on the web site are rubbish. It took us 3 quarters of an hour to find the place from Monmouth (6 miles away). 2). It was a bit noisy at night. On the Saturday there was loud music from the other side of the site which went on until past 11.30pm. Apart from that it was great and will be going there again.

December 2004 We stayed here over the New Year holiday and took a lot of time when choosing the site. We needed somewhere with laundry, washing up facilities, shop and telephone and selected this campsite based on the facilities they offered. The price we paid for that holiday season was actually higher than the price for spring 2005.
However when we arrived the facilities were not available... the building housing the laundry room, dishwashing sinks and some of the toilets/showers was locked for the winter and we had to use a building at the top of the site for showering. There was no alternative laundry room and dishwashing area. The warden offered to open another building to use the sink there but only COLD water was available for washing up there!
I tried to dry my towel on the radiator in the shower block but the warden kept moving it saying we weren`t allowed to leave stuff there. The site was quiet and no harm was being done. When we asked to use the tumble dryer she refused to unlock the building as it had been drained for the winter and they hadn`t realised people would want it.
The shop was not available at all throughout the stay and even the on site telephone was out of order. Despite being in an area where not all mobile phones would get a signal!
The website did not give any indication that not all facilities wold be available. And it is hard to imagine that dishwashing would be a facility that people would not want. It should clearly highlight that facilities may not be available and REDUCE the price accordingly, not increase it due to holiday period.
The booking dept did assure me when I phoned after the holiday that all facilities shold have been available..obviously no one told the wardens!
My advice is to confirm everything before booking, especially if going out of the main season.

April 2005 We had booked over the telephone for Bracelands site but for some reason the booking hadn't been recorded. (The deposit had not been taken out of our credit card account either). Fortunately there was space on this site for our tent plus EHU.
The site itself was very nice with clean shower blocks and a nice little playground for children. The shop was excellent and the staff (there seemed to be hundreds of them in green sweatshirts) were very helpful and polite.
The downside for this site was the sloping pitches where the EHUs were situated - obviously geared up for caravans. I wouldn't go back to this site for that reason.
The other downside was that the barrier was locked at 10pm. We went out for a meal with relatives from the area and had to walk back from the barrier to our tent. With a disabled husband, this was no fun. I have been on sites which lock barriers at 11pm and have no problem with this.

May (1st Bank Holiday) 2004 Beautiful scenic site in a peaceful location, facilities very good and kept very clean. There is no on site entertainment so for a place to get away from it all its ideal. As others have said, site is sloping by electric hook up. I paid for electric hook up even though I was in a tent and didn't require it, as I wanted to pitch alongside my friends (one group in a caravan and another in a tent). This didn't go down too well with a few other campers (who obviously thought us in the tents hadn't paid extra for the hook up)! There was a queue leading up to the site as we arrived when it was busy. Tempers were frayed, the staff in reception were quite snappy with me when I asked for the layout of the site - apart from that all the other staff seemed quite pleasant. Beware arriving at busy periods and beware of the sloped camping as the site can get washed out when wet!

May 2004 Friendly reception, booking over the internet worked.
Good shop with fresh bread, gas, etc. Clean showers, very nicely situated at the edge of the Forest of Dean. Great walks straight from the campsite, e.g. to Symonds Yat.
Chose a pitch without a hookup as they are on more level ground.
Will definitely go there again. If you have your own toilet, try the Woodlands site which is right next to this one.

May 2004 What a lovely site! We visited Christchurch for the Bank holiday weekend (Friday night to Monday morning. 3 Nights)
Beautiful surroundings, woodland etc. The site has a large, well stocked shop and several toilet / shower blocks. The smaller toilet blocks seemed a little more basic than the larger more central ones, but were kept clean and had plenty of loo roll!
The site staff were very friendly and always seemed available when you wanted them and invisible when you didn't.
Christchurch was very busy and there seemed to be a constant stream of new arrivals, yet our group of 5 tents (15 happy campers including the kids) all managed to pitch together in one corner of the campsite and it did not feel at all cramped......(still room for a game of football)
Nice play area for the kids, although this has been graffiti'd (why do kids do that?)
All in all, a splendid long weekend had by all. Would definately recommend this site and I am positive we will be going back again.

April 2004 A very clean and pleasant site.
Although on a slope, the electrical hook-ups are on the worst of the slope, so tents tend to be on the flatter area. Small terraces have been cut into the hill, so tenters don't have to worry about rolling down the hill.
The on-site shop is large and well stocked, with fresh bread and cakes each morning.
The shower blocks vary in their designs - some have better showers/clothes storage areas than others. All the showers are clean, although for several days one or other of the showers had no hot water. We found the top block best.
Some of the dish washing facilities are under cover, some are inside.
In the tent (non-hook-up area) there's picnic tables and BBQs.
The reception is shared with three sites in the same area, so queues to book in can get long at peak times.
There seem to be a large number of staff on duty, and they are friendly and helpful.

May 2003 This is a nice campsite in a superb location. There is a nice play area for the kids and it's near to Symonds Yat with a superb view of the Wye valley. One thing that is worth pointing out though, is that this is a Foresty Commission site, who charge 3 pounds for an awning, dog, gazebo etc. We arrived with all these things and ended up with a bill for 22 pounds per night for a basic site! Please note as well that this site is on a sloping field, so tent campers be aware.

September 2003 We (2 adults/1 child) stayed at the above campsite last weekend (1 night). A good time of year to go as not very busy, so therefore plenty of choice where to pitch our tent.
Great site - clean, good facilities (constant hot water), toilet/shower blocks cleaned regularly, plenty of washing up, drinking water and electric points throughtout the site.
Good choice of beautiful walks/cycle paths surrounding the sites (all 3 sites were interlinked well) and only a 5min drive to Symonds Yat. So a great location all-in-all and so peaceful.
The campsite shop was well stocked and I really cannot fault the site, so happy to recommend it.
