Amazing site. Lots going on for children, great walks, cycling etc. We visited an old mine it was fab only a short drive away from the site. The site itself has a good play area for kids, great woodland walks and various activities including learning archery. The site is very friendly and 1 of the fields allows well behaved dogs, so a bonus for our little Bumble the king charles cav. The kids love this site and always love to go there. The area is beautiful and the camp facilities are great, clean and tidy showers and loos with nice hot water. The shop is a fair priced one for the location. Just down the road either walk or cycle is a great chip shop highly recommended. We go here a lot and always recommend it to our friends who then go to it and rave about it too. So go visit it and enjoy.

Have just returned from a brilliantly chilled weekend stay at this wonderful site. As this was my first time camping (on my own, with 2 children aged 3 and 6!) I was understandably nervous but I really needn't of bothered. I met up with friends and their children and the only slight stress was the fact that despite booking our holidays together and turning up at the same time we could not be guaranteed adjacent pitches.
The site itself is fantastic. Plenty of room and yet small enough for little ones to easily navigate and you are never too far from a toilet block. Ignore some of the earlier reviews, the showers do have a temperature control - it is just well hidden!
I wish I could comment on pubs and leisure activities, but the truth is that the weather was so good we spent all our time relaxing and letting the childern run wild and explore - giving them a taste of the freedom that we all enjoyed when we were little.

This was our fist trip to the Forest of Dean for me and my boyfriend and we both loved it here. The camp site is in a fantastic location and has very good clean toilets and wash up area. The showers were hot and powerful, only problem was you have to continually push the button because they don't seem to last very long.
The area is beautiful with lovely walks through the forest. You are able to pitch where ever you like and we decided to pitch next to the forest edge. If you feel energetic you can walk through the forest along a footpath down to the river, not so easy coming back up! The campsite is a short drive away from the amazing Simonds Yat and Yat rock, with fantastic views over the Wye Valley. You can walk down from yat rock to the river, not for the faint hearted!
If you like the feel of being close to nature then you will love this site. Owls hooting in the night, animals rustling around and an amazing dawn chorus. Be sure to keep the gate to the forest closed due to the wild boar that live in the forest!
This site is a lot closer to the camp site shop than the other forest camp site Bracelands. The shop sells everything you need. If you stay at Bracelands down the road you have to walk up a fair way up a hill to get to the camp shop.
A lovely campsite, well orgaised, clean and in a fab location. We will definitely be returning. Enjoy your stay!

The Christchurch site is one of three sites which are closely located that are owned and managed in a joint venture between the Camping and Caravan Club and the Forestry Commission. The other two sites are Woodlands and Bracelands.
As all arrivals to the three sites book in at Christchurch the reception desk is stretched at peak times and is best avoided until a quieter period.
The Christchurch site is large and popular with a central grassy area being dominated by 'tenters' with the surrounding shaded pitches being popular with motorhomes and caravans.
The facilities are plentiful and seemed to cope with the large numbers and were maintained to a good standard.
The beauty of this site (as with the other two) is the direct access afforded to the surrounding woodland. There is a reasonably flat route to Yat rock which takes about 15 mins by bike and is well worth a visit. The drop down to the river is also worth a trip but inevitably leads to a steep climb on the return.
Of the 3 sites this is the closest to Christchurch with a couple of pubs within comfortable walking distance. We took a ten minute stroll to the New Inn which has recently come under new ownership. The meal itself was enjoyable and reasonably priced coming in at £42 for two three course meals and a couple of drinks apiece.
Overall I would wholeheartedly recommend this site for those who can make their own entertainment and enjoy the beauty of the forest.

What a crackin place to stay! We had a rainy weekend here but the weather really wasnt a problem, fantastic forest walks surround the campsite, well stocked shop, and good park area for older children (3+), really clean toilets. Only one not so great thing, the showers had no temp control and they were really hot. Far to hot to shower my three year old, but being three he didnt care about being grubby!

This is a great site for families, it is on quite a slope but no major problem.
It has a good playground although we found the equipment a bit old for our 2 year old son!
The saff are very friendly & helpful.
There are 2 sets of toilet/shower blocks that were kept clean & the free showers were great (hot & powerful!)
We highly recommend the New Inn pub (turn left out if the site) staff are very friendly & the food was fantastic! they even fed our child for free!
We went into Monmouth & Ross on Wye but not much to see apart from the usual high street shops!
A walk to Symonds Yat is recommended, there are suggested routes to follow in reception.
Over all a good site if you enjoy walking & the great outdoors.

This was the first time we had taken our 2 1/2 year old twins camping and this site couldn't have been better! The site was brilliant and the facilities were excellent and very clean. The playground for the kids was a big hit! Shame the campsite couldn't have controlled the weather! So good, we have booked to go back next month!

Bank holiday weekend (4 nights) - terrible weather: heavy rain and thunder & lightening!
The site was very clean (considering the weather), showers were hot and clean, the staff were very friendly, the facilities are excellent, and laundrette good value £3.00 per wash 50p for 30mins drying. Washing up was a pleasure with a blue-tit nest above my head; I could hear the chicks going mad when the adult entered to feed them - entertainment while you work - what more could you ask for?
Kids (9&6) loved the play area. We camped down left-hand bottom of site, under the trees, on non-electric area. The slope stopped the tent flooding - something that seemed to be happening on areas of the central camping field which was more level.
Shop on site busy and reasonably priced, local area great, the woodland walks were lovely especially in the rain! You MUST visit Symonds Yat east to see the birds - nuthatch (1st I’d ever seen), loads of blue, great & coal tits and nesting peregrine falcons! Not forgetting the view - WOW!
We had booked and paid to canoe off Symonds Yat on b/h Monday, but this was cancelled due to the swelled Wye and heavy rain. Therefore, we have planned to return to the area for another 4 nights in the summer and we will definitely stay at Christchurch again.

Coming from the Midlands M5/M50 don't use sat nav to get to this site, as it takes you up a really narrow road, not good! Go into Monmouth & turn left over the river ie: come in from the other way. £10 deposit needed for gate. Arrived mid week after much rain. Lower part of the site a little waterlogged, but managed to find a pitch higher up - slightly sloping. Very pretty site, busy but not too crowded for half term. My girls loved the play park / access to forest with bikes etc. Did not use local pubs, shop has most things, but a little pricey. Good hot powerful showers & clean considering the rain! Went to Go Ape - brilliant even in the rain! Would go to site again as needed more time to explore.

We stayed on a very HOT! weekend in May. We stayed for 2 nights Friday to Sunday and it was fantastic, first time taking our little one camping and it was fantastic fun. The site was clean and welcoming. Toilets and showers were all really clean and very close by which is always handy. We spent the sat at Yat rock which was lovely taking the boat across the river. As it was one of our first hot days the Yat was very busy but really nice walk down to the bridge. If you take the walk on the same side as the pub its fine for pushchairs but the other side is harder work as its very cobbled and uneven. But the site was really good fantastic walks and blue bells where out in force absolutly stunning and the on site shop had all the essentials with friendly staff. Booking were a bit matter of fact with our friends who arrived later, about what they needed to do, but I should think they have lots of people who are first time campers and it did not sway us from going again really looking forward to it.
Only down side to the site is that our 2 year old was a little young for the playpark as everything was too high for her to get onto, little legs couldn't pull her up.
Highly reccomended to all campers new and old.
