We arrived at the site about 4.30 on Saturday (bank holiday weekend). It was the busiest site we have ever been to. We had to leave the caravan outside and walk around the site to find a pitch. It would appear that earlier arrivals were not keeping strictly to the pitch markings (a slab) and despite booking a long way before our break, pitches were not specifically allocated. We are glad we did not arrive any later. Many of the units were too close together and was not the quaint forest site we expected. It was better after the bank holiday had finished and the site was not as busy!
There were only 5 showers that I counted which does not seem like many for the size of the site (I think it was 280 Pitches). We therefore used the shower in our caravan, trying it out for the first time. The toilet blocks are in need of modernisation and although clean, they are quite old.
The site itself is very nice and we would go again, but probably not over a bank holiday as it is just too busy.
There is a lot to see and do in this area, with nice walks, and both family and mountain bike rides. Not far from Cardiff which is a nice city to visit (usually good on match days!).
The site has a children's play park and many children on bike's and scooters.
Didn't use the shop but always looked very busy. We did not realise but you will need £10 Cash Deposit for the Barrier Key, not mentioned in our terms and conditions, had to leave driving licence.

Stayed at this site with friends (plus a 2 year old) for Bank Holiday weekend.
Good points:
- Friendly wardens - Close to the forest - Very scenic - Handy shop
Bad points:
- Unmarked pitches with strict rules of where/how to pitch - Dated shower and toilet facilities in need of a refit, although clean but very basic - Queues for showers during the morning - Some pitches are sloping and would cause a few problems with tents
We had a nice weekend with some good weather. The site is picturesque and would satisfy most campers. However I do like 'nice' toilets and showers and this site didn't deliver on this aspect, although they were kept relatively clean considering how busy the site was.

This was our first camping experience as a family and we were really happy with the site. Christhurch's sister site, Bracelands, is situated further down the road and we were told it was a good job we'd booked Christchurch as Bracelands was completely waterlogged (it was the exceptionally wet summer!) We ventured down there and agreed immediately with the wardens, although otherwise that looked a lovely site too. Back at Christchurch there is a handy shop, very expensive alcohol, nice Costa Coffee! The adventure play area was adored by our 5 and 3 year olds and they loved being able to venture there on their own. It's a large, slightly sloping site and the facilities were clean, if basic. Nicely positioned for forest walks, Clearwell caves, Puzzlewood etc. The wardens also offer activities (for a fee). As novice campers this site had all we expected and needed.

Great location to explore surrounding areas, good reception area and friendly and helpful wardens. Handy shop with all basic requirements and some not so basic items.
Had two toilet blocks open but there were others which were closed due to season. Toilets clean and tidy. Showers had plenty of hot water and not on a push button so I could fully rinse my hair and take a shower without having to keep stopping and starting.
Lots of local pubs serving meals which the warden directed us to, good value and plenty of choice, decent size portions. Lots to explore in surrounding villages and the general forest area. We bought the Forest experience card for £12 but saved £18 discount on 'Go Ape' experience, which I can say was one of the best days out we have had in UK. So well worth purchasing as it also give discount on pitch fees.
Small play area for kids but as we used campsite as base we didn't really use it.
Really loved the area and will definitely be going back, perhaps to another of the two sister sites.
The only improvement would be that there didn't appear to be a focal point to the site, however that could be again due to season as there was a pavilion which is presumably used in summer.

This was our first ever family camping trip. Myself, OH and DS 2.1/2yr absolutely loved it here.
The staff where very friendly and helpful, the site was lovely. The forest card was suggested and has already started paying for itself as we ended up staying for 3 nights.
The site was quite every night by 11 even though there were a few groups.
We stayed on an EHU pitch and you didn't feel packed in, even between a motorhome and a caravan, but the site wasn't busy, and the weather was great.
The shop was well stocked and very friendly even to the point of tell us where the nearest corner shop was.
The toilet/shower blocks where lovely and clean every time we went in there.
Lots of walks and cycling in the area.
We will definitely go back and will try more of the forest holidays.

First time we have visited this site and all in all, we had a lovely stay!
We got to the site after 7pm on the Thursday and while the reception was closed, a quick phone call and a lovely lady came over to help us and give us some basic info. We had to wait till the following day to properly confirm our booking though.
Site itself was was well maintained and showers were kept really clean. The camp shop sold all you needed, but Coleford is a 5 min drive away and there is a Tesco Express, Co-op and Somerfield to get all your stuff from.
We loved the area and went cycling and trekking round the forest - fantastic! We even got to see some wild boar. There are woodland walks right from the site over to Symonds Yat if you are feeling fit.
Perhaps the only thing I would like to see improved is the communication between the main booking dept and the site itself. I had explained I wanted a EHU pitch and standard pitch side by side (2 bods per pitch) and had already booked in a gazebo and pup tent when I paid over the phone for the site.
However, when I went to reception to confirm all this, I then had to endure the Spanish Inquisition on how many people we had on each pitch, what the pup tent was being used for, was our leisure shelter actually a gazebo? how many EHU's we'd got.Blimey!
But after we passed the questioning(!) we got settled down and had a great stay. We would def return to this site again.

We stopped for 3 nights at Christchurch. Big site in a fantastic location. Plenty of wooded walks, even saw a stag, just stood watching us, while we were getting lost around the forest.
Plenty of toilet/shower blocks around the site, basic, could do with a refurb. Really powerful showers and the top block had a hand dryer higher on the wall to stand under to dry your hair as there was no sockets for your own. Laundry facilities are £3.00 for a wash and 50p for drier
Reception require £10 deposit for the barrier key. The barrier is open between 7am and 11pm. If you arrive back to site after 11pm, then you park in the car park opposite and walk to your unit.
Very well stocked shop, which included camping gear.
Tents and motorhomes seemed to be around the edge of the site, nearer the forest edge but other units with EHU had to go in the middle of the site. Plenty of space around the units and pick your own spot. It didn't stop raining all the time we were there, we just happened to pick one which pooled in our awning.
We did get a couple of hours break from the rain to walk to Symonds Yak. Brilliant views and the RSPB were there watching the pair of perigrin falcons. They welcomed you to watch the falcons through their binoculars and ask any questions. Lovely coffee and cake from the cafe, as we took shelter from the rain again.

On arriving we were told to pitch with the red circle on the ground in the middle of the pitch. We did this, pitched our awning etc and set up camp. 5 mins later- as it began to rain- a warden came over an told us we were not central enough and had to move one foot. We had a one year old, I was pregnant and it was raining - what a nightmare to have to take everything out of the awning, move it and put it all back. The site was half empty and no-one was next to us. We questioned if we really needed to move just one foot and the warden got really cross and told us that actually, our awning was also too big and he would charge us for an extra pitch!
Now, we have a mazda bongo (a small van about size of a vw camper) and a standard khyam awning. It was ridiculous! So in the end we moved the whole lot with him standing watching. When we had done it he went to the 2 person tent next door, pitched in the very centre of the pitch and got them to take it down and move a foot to the left. They were incredulous! If it wasn't evening time when this happened we would have just packed and gone home.
Site itself is lovely as other reviewers have said but the rules ruined it for us.

Fairly big campsite with no marked pitches, just a request to leave 6m between you and your neighbours - great when we arrived mid week, we had loads of space, but on leaving on the Saturday of the BH weekend, it was looking like a refugee camp with tents pitching anywhere they could fit in. Adequate loo/shower facilities; a little dated, but clean & lots of hot water. Childrens playground onsite which easily entertained my 9 & 7 year olds. Shop on site stocks all the basics, milk, bread, tent pegs, gas, plus the luxuries of a Costa Coffee and ready meals which they'll heat up for you (though didn't try them). Despite torrential rain the ground wasn't too bad so obviously free draining.
Nearby Coleford is a pretty market town with supermarkets, take-aways and a cinema.
Forest of Dean cycle trails really good - all off road, so great for children.
Would recommend the site and the area.

Stayed at Christchurch for five days ( myself my wife and two boys aged 9 and 6 and our boxer dog) the camp is very nice with plenty of toilet/shower blocks which are cleaned daily , there is a good shop on camp which stocks plenty and is pretty cheap for a camp shop , the staff on the camp are very nice and easy to talk to , there was also three other shops (including a post office) with in walking distance ( about half a mile) there is also a couple of pubs in walking distance ( seen signs for a couple of other pubs but never found them ) the play park was good ( it was also safe for us to be able to send them to it alone ) all the campers got on well together ,,you have to stop making noise at 11pm but they dont seem to inforce it as the people in the tent behind us was very loud ( on our last night they was shouting until gone midnight )
If you take your dog with you and plan on going out for the day make sure you can take the dog with you as we went to the model village that said on there website that dogs where welcome ,once we got there we found out dogs where welcome AS LONG AS YOU LEFT THEM IN THE CAR.
On a Thursday they have a open air market and car boot sale in coleford so we went over to it as we thought it would be a good way to spend a couple of hours (more like a couple of minutes) it had one carboot stall and three market stall,s .
But all in all the camp was very nice and we give it top marks
