We visited this campsite over the bank holiday weekend with our 3 children aged 12, 9 and 3.
The arrivals lodge is superb and it was easy to find a pitch. The pitches are not marked out and by Friday evening the site was very busy and the 3m spacing was quite a challenge.
The campsite is in a beautiful location with easy access to the forest and some lovely walks.
The on site shop is well stocked and the staff could not be more helpful. They offer an ice block re-freezing service and also a small takeaway offering hot drinks and tasty homemade pizzas in the evening.
The washrooms were rather tired but there was always plenty of hot water and I understand that there are some new facilities being built soon.
Overall the campsite is in a great location and we will be returning soon

This was our 2nd visit to Christchurch. They have built a new front building to the site and relegated the old building to a bike hire shop. It seems, like new Wembley, they are trying to get back as much money as possible from this with even worse prices at the shop than last year. A cheap bottle of red which will cost you restaurant prices. Luckily there are two shops close by and Coleford has 3 supermarkets so you can just use the camp shop for essentials. E.G. Of prices 1 pint milk 70p, bread £2, cheapest bottle of wine £12.
The site is well located, central for a lot of activities. We visited Goodrich castle, walked to Symonds Yat and did some Kayaking using the excellent Wyedean Canoe and Adventure Centre.
The facilities on site are OK. The main block had a one hand dryer in the ladies, which was broke. Of the two dishwashing areas one had hot water, the other never did.
I think the site is pushing the newly built cabins some people did state some snootiness from the staff (When one person asked why there was no hot water she was told the campers must have used it all!), although our experience from the staff was good. Missed the activities walk which was seriously overbooked as they only have 2 a week, which was a shame as the kids loved that aspect last year. The Ranger was knowledgeable and really enjoys talking about the local nature and will take time to assist.
All in all a good site for a family visit, that could be great.

What a lovely site, facilities were very clean but in need of updating.
This is our 3rd time of visiting and the site just gets better and better. The new shop is a very welcome addition to the site although it was very expensive £4.40 for two bottles of lemonade,so it is well worth making use of the coop in coleford.
We will definitely be visiting again. Our children aged 11 and 8 loved it there and can't wait to go back.
We had family who came with us for the first time and absolutely loved it there and they can't wait to return.

Had a weekend stopover here during the last weekend in March. It is very well situated for visiting the Forest of Dean and Symmonds Yat.
Overall, the campsite and facilities are very good. The shop is well stocked and has just about everything you may need. The toilet/shower block was very clean and the showers were nice and warm.
The site is on a slight slope so you may struggle to find a flat pitch when it's busy but overall the good points far outweigh this. I would recommend this site and will visit again in the future.

A beautiful relaxing site and kept very tidy. Weather was wonderful which always helps. Large open site - out of the caravan & straight into the beautiful forest.
Staff all very helpful. Site shop well stocked but rather expensive. Showers clean but need updating.
Walked to New Inn Pub but not very welcoming & a bit run down - served all the locals who came in behind us first - my partner said that the beer was dreadful & we left without stopping to eat.
Quiet site - tariff reasonable. Will definitely return.

We have just come back from a long weekend on Christchurch campsite. I've been camping on this particular site for over 35 years so have to admit I'm a bit of a fan!
There's a small shop and cafe at the entrance to the site, open every day from 8am to 9pm so is useful for getting supplies like milk or newspapers without having to leave the site. The only thing we noticed is that quite a few items in the shop didn't have any prices shown (although I do realise that we could have asked about the prices at the till).
The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, and were always happy and able to answer any question.
Although the campsite was almost full, only two of the toilet blocks were open - the one at the top of the hill and the one in the middle of the site. There are two much smaller ones at the bottom of the hill, one each side of the play area, but these were both locked up the whole weekend.
Having said that, we didn't have to queue for the toilet or the shower once all weekend. As there were lots of children staying, I'd have said the busiest time for showering was around 9pm, after all the children had finished playing and were all being showered before bed!
We camped at the bottom of the hill, opposite the play area and whilst this was fairly noisy during the day (just as we expected), it was dark by 9pm and therefore very quiet after this time. The play area is ideally suited to children up to around age 10.
Our daughter is almost 10 and normally wanting our attention all the time, but found lots of other children all of a similar age, and they spent the whole weekend on the play area or in the surrounding woodlands. There are established paths and they were never very far from those paths. It was very safe and we didn't see her for hours on end.
Because our daughter was having such fun playing we didn't explore the local area much, but you can walk down to the Biblins bridge or to Symonds Yat, both walks are around 1 3/4 miles each. Or you can walk to the bridge and then along the river to Symonds Yat and then back to the campsite, but with children this would probably take you most of the day.
There are gates at the entrance and the exit of the site which need a code to open, and we weren't told which day the code would be changed, so when we tried to leave on the last day we couldn't get out of the site. I would warn anyone else staying to check if the code will be changed before you go home!
Finally, if you are susceptible to insect bites, please remember to take the necessary repellent because we all got bitten by various different insects that were flying round.
We will definitely be going back again and I'll see if I can make it 70 years of camping there!

Our party of 5 people & 3 dogs where given a warm & friendly welcome. Although we have been many times before every thing was explained to us again - ie the shop opening times, the rules with regards to there being 6 metres between you and your neighbours for health and safety and also to have some privacy. We where advised to read the fire notice boards to familiarise ourselves with meeting points etc.
Toilets where clean and kept fresh through out the day, different blocks had different cleaning times so you where advised of this and you could use an alternative block. Showers even though where always busy were still clean although did look tired.I was advised these where going to be re vamped for next season.
There was plenty of room for kids to run around and plenty of activities to keep the young ones happy ie forest trails, young explorers, dusk / night time walks with rangers. Plenty of choice in the shop and always plenty of fresh bread, but we were advised to pre order just to be safe so there was no need to be up at the dawn chorus just for bread. The staff were very friendly and always helpful.
The site was well maintained and bbq,s where allowed as long as kept off the ground. Plenty of walks on offer with well positioned pubs along the way! This visit was made in our final tent expedition as we've now got a caravan and have already got bookings for 2011 to go to both Christchurch & Bracelands sites. It makes no difference with the weather. Its just a beautiful place to be no matter what!

A good weekends weather helped make this a lovely first camping trip of the year. Particularly like the reception with well stocked shop (can recommend the welsh cider!) and take away. Staff were all really friendly and although only one toilet block open as the other is being refurbished there was often someone cleaning even at 10 oclock at night. At £17 for two weekend nights will definitely be going again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this site. Thankfully we had reasonable weather although some heavy rain at night left the pitches a bit muddy, but they did drain quickly.
Because it wasn't school holidays it was quiet, lots of space and never any queues for the toilets or showers, which were cleaned every day. Plenty of hot water in the showers but could do with a shelf for shampoo and soap.
Lots to do in the area, not just walking but loads of castles to visit, found Chepstow a lovely town with shops, castle and river. We will certainly visit the site and area again.

Visited for a weekend break and chose the site due to it's location to Symonds Yat where were were canoeing.
Receptionist very friendly and helpful. Shop appropriately stocked for our needs.
Some issues with noisy campers early in the morning, but on the whole a quite location.
The shower blocks are rather dated with lack of hot water, inadequate drainage and not enough for the number of campers. Best time to have a shower is 4pm in the afternoon! The one and only hair dryer is in the top shower block but leaves a lot to be desired - it's a hand drier sited above head high - obviously some man thought this was a good idea. In this day and age there are much better solutions available.
Hopefully once the new reception block is completed they'll move onto upgrading the shower facilities.
