Excellent site with high standards of maintenance and facilities. Clean and spacious toilet/shower block plus privacy cubicles. Also laundry and games room. The tent area is small and sadly does not offer electric hook up. If everyone had large tents it would be a squeeze to fit. You cannot park your car beside your tent either but there is a small campers car park beside the tent field. The tent field is enclosed by trees and sadly there are no views of the surrounding hills from the tents which is a shame. Apart from this, this is a super site for campers and I would highly recommend it.

This site has all the usual cravan club standards, clean loos and showers, which were never full, and good sized pitches all hard standing making it a good site for the winter months too. The site is very popular and so gets booked up very quickly.
I have to agree with the comment that the dog walk wasn't very big but there are several lanes nearby that are marked as public foot paths. There is a lot of walking to be had in the area whatever your ability, some of the longer, harder walks take in some fantastic views. Castleton and Hope are within walking distance where there are many pubs and eating places. We didn't use public transport but there is a bus stop nearby and I think at busier times there is a good service. We liked the site and area so much we have booked to go again in the summer.

August 2005 We stayed at Losehill for 4 nights on way up to Lake District. Very friendly wardens on a spotlessly clean site. My husband and son went to Alton Towers for one day (I sensibly chose not to go!) which was an easy drive away. Castleton is easy walk away, very pretty village - probably the prettiest village we saw over our entire holiday - and do visit the Devil's A**e Cavern - well worth it, spectacular and our guide was very funny indeed! Biggest downside of this site was dog walk, which was right by main entrance, and too small for a walk, more like a dog circuit of a wooded area, where you couldn't let your dog off the lead. All fields around are full of sheep and you couldn't let dogs off their leads anywhere, which frustrated my 2 dogs - although I quite understand about the sheep and would have been mortified if mine had chased them. Had a good lunch at a little restaurant near the tourist office in Castleton.

August 2005 Just got back from three relaxing days at Losehill. Considering it was summer hols, the camping field never got overly busy, unlike Laneside down the road which was rammed! Superb quality facilities, I was happy to let my seven year old son go off and play with other kids on the site without worry of falling foul of aging equipment/facilities. Be careful where you pitch. If you go at the far end of the field you lose the sun mid-afternoon and don't get it again until mid-morning, but if you go where the sun is, you're also closer to the road. When I was there, it was mainly populated by other families, but there was little or no noise after 10.30 at night so no trouble getting my son to sleep! Recommended, if a little pricey – we paid near on £40 for 3 nights.

June 2005 We stayed here for 3 nights. The journey from Wirral took us along some busy roads and lots of winding, narrow country lanes - so be careful! The site is lovely, quiet and clean. There were some noisy children in the tent field and I was glad we hadn't pitched near there as they were running through the woods at 8am screaming! We pitched fairly central and it was very quiet. Some of the perimeter pitches get very shaded so take care in choosing your pitch if this bothers you. The pitches are large and hard standing with hedging to divide up areas. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. The on-site shop sells basics plus pegs if you need more for the hard standing pitches. There are some lovely walks and an under ground boat ride through a cavern is within walking distance. We liked this site. The only criticism, is that the toilets were closed for cleaning for over an hour, late morning. As there is only one toilet block per sex, this was sometimes inconvenient. However, they were very clean as a result.

February 2005 Usual Caravan Club standard - Immaculate. We stayed for 5 nights for the walking, advise you to take your walking boots and climb up to Losehill, the scenery is mind blowing, walk along the tops and down into Castleton. This is a nice quiet site, large pitches that take Van awning and car, the shower blocks were never full, small wardens shop where you can pre order next days newspapers. This is just an hour away for us and this is another on our "To visit again" list.

September 2004 My wife, daughter and I stayed here 2 weeks ago for one night only and we found this site first class. Friendly staff on arrival made checking in a harmless experience and our tent pitch was on flat ground with easy access to the immaculate, more than adequate toilet facilities. With the exception of the deafening dawn chorus of moaning sheep originating from the next field, this was an excellent stopover which we intend repeating in the not too distant future.

August 04 we stayed here for two nights in the tent field, though we had friends who were staying there in a caravan. We were amazed to discover that there were only 3 electrical hook ups in the entire tent field, and if a hook up was required we should have reserved one when we booked. We were not informed of this although I confirmed with them that electric hook ups were available. The price was also a bit high considering our friends in the caravan area paid less but had all the facilities. It was a nice clean site but it seemed tent pitches were not as welcome as caravanners.

July 2003 I have just returned from a 3 day stay at Losehill, a camp I can only describe as spotless. The facilities are ample, a little basic but for great if you want to get away from it all.
The shower/toilets were impecably clean, even the wash basins were in cubicles which pleased my daughter who wont undress in front of anyone but me. There was hot water all the time, even outside in the washing up areas, lauderette, drying room, play area (bit basic) and a family room which had a pool table and table tennis - kept my soon happy the whole 3 days, downside probably the on site shop - only served milk, juice and eggs (with a few sweets and cans for the kids)
On the whole I would rate them 9/10, we will definately go back - they are a caravan club site for those who are members.
