This was our second visit to this site and it was as enjoyable as the first.

On arrival the lovely wardens told us which pitches were vacant and left us to choose.

Pitches were plenty big enough and I believe they all have ehu.

This is a C. C. Site and is as you would expect, shower block nice and clean, site generally well

Looked after. Seemed to be plenty of lavatories and showers, never had to wait.

There is a barrier for which you are given a card on arrival but this doesn't cause problems.

There is an information room, a washing up place, a laundry and also a family games room.

There is also a large drying room with racks etc. Very handy in a walking area.

I'm not sure there is a kids play area but there is a dog walk.

I you turn right out of the gate 10/15 min walk gets you into Castleton village which has lots of

Cafes, shops and pubs and other things.

There is a bakers/store which had their bread out very early on our first visit but this doesn't happen now. Still recommend the Rose Cottage Tea Rooms. There food is very good. Coffee not so much.

Also try a place I think was called The Ramblers Rest? Superb coffee and amazing scones baked by the lady on site.

If you turn left out the gate you can drive to Hope. There is a very good greengrocers on the main street and a good butcher's down the side turning opposite the church.

Probably the main reason you'll be here is the walking. We were blessed with great weather so we were out every day. If you look at your O. S. Map you'll see lots of walks from Castleton area without need of a car.

One walk not to miss – just east of the site you'll find a footpath to Lose Hill, from there go west along the ridge to Hollins Cross then on to Mam Tor and round behind Blue John Cavern brings you back to Castleton. Also a walk up Cave Dale from the village centre is a good day out.

All in all an excellent site in a superb location, we'll certainly go back. You can even hear the sea lions a night.

Spent a couple of nights here in mid-April. Adult weekend spent socialising with family (no kids and a bit too much to drink!).

The site is a typical CC site with good facilities; very friendly and helpful wardens and good sized pitches.

Check-in was easy, select your pitch and let them know.

Castelton is a 10 minute walk and is a lovely small peaks village - 6 pubs to choose from - we'd recommend them all!

We are back in August although with child in tow!

We stayed at Castleton Caravan Club Site for three nights during the February half term.

The location is great. Whilst we are regular visitors to the Peak District and have been to Castleton several times we had not stayed here before and found it very convenient for walks straight from the van.

The area is beautiful we walked up to Lose hill on the Sunday and along the ridge to Mam Tor before returning to the site though Castleton. The following day we drove the short distance to Ladybower reservoir and then walked up Win Hill which also looks over the Hope valley that the site is nestled in.

As others have mentioned Castleton is an easy walk from the site and has numerous pubs for refreshment. Whilst we didn't frequent any this time we have before and most are muddy boot and dog friendly, frankly they have to be.

The site itself is very tidy, no complaints. The hard standings mean that wet weather can be accommodated without becoming muddy, the shower block is fine and the warden friendly.

When we arrived most pitches were full and we set up adjacent to the road which can be a bit noisy. The speed limit is 40mph so unless a motorbike screams past its not too bad. We found though that at night it quietens down and we never found it to be a problem.

There is not much on site for children, but the surrounding countryside is brilliant for walking and there is of course the caves in Castleton to visit.

Also I would mention that the village shop that you pass on the way into Castleton on the left sells some nice(big)cakes if you are looking for a sugar hit.

We would recommend the site, particularly of course for the location and are planning to return just before Xmas if not before.

Arrived at this Caravan Club site in snowy conditions, but was easily able to pitch up on a recently vacated pitch. We've got a large twin axel just under 8 metres, but had no problem reversing onto our selected pitch. However, we did note that there were some pitches with a considerable slope which we chose to avoid.

The wardens were all very helpful and were always available for advice. That said, I was 'told off' for filling a bucket with water to use to wash the front windows of the caravan which had become covered in mud on our way there. There reason for the telling off. Cross contamination, apparently?? Does this mean they never wash their own vehicles for the same reason?

The site itself was great. The showers were always hot and the toilets spotlessly clean. There is also the added benefit of a large drying room which was ideal for wet boots, gaiters etc.

The main attraction of this site must be the stunning views. The site sits in Hope Valley and is surrounded by mountains and on our arrival covered in snow which made the whole scene extra special. There are numerous walks nearby and there's plenty of information available in the information room.

Castleton village is a simple 5 minute walk from the site. The path to the village is lit so there were no problems walking back in the evening. There are several pubs in Castleton. The few we visited were great, in particular the The Old Cheshire Cheese Inn where the beer was excellent and the surroundings very cosy, especially with the open fire. We had a great Sunday evening there when they do a very good pub quiz, which is free.

Obviously being a small village there are no large shops. The whole place is filled with little shops selling gifts and jewels. Apparently, Castleton is the only place that mines a semi precious stone called Blue John. Most shops sell it in one form or another.

There are 2 or 3 convenience stores which seemed to be priced ok, although I was very disappointed to be charged to use my debit card! I thought those days had long gone, but obviously not in the convenience stores in Castleton. Note to self. Always take cash!

All in all, a wonderful location to have a lovely relaxing break and take in some stunning scenery. Will definitely be going back.

Immediately upon arriving at the site the wardens berated our camping friends for washing the road mud from their van and then, immediately afterwards, made another couple re-hitch their unit to move it two feet across the pitch.

Sunday afternoon came and, whilst everyone on the site is trying to take their ease, the warden drives his very noisy tractor ( I’m sure its been tuned to F1 standards or has no exhaust muffler) around to various positions on the site and then proceeds to start leaf blowing using a very noisy two stroke power tool! Hardly environmentally friendly on several counts and really spoiling the overall peace and quiet that the Peak District is famed for.

To add to the disturbance there were several noisy dogs that were completely out of their owners control. I counsel the Caravan Club to have separate areas for dog and non dog owners as, frankly when out of control, dogs can be as much of as a pain a these wardens were and I’m sure that other dog owners would be more prepared to put up with the yapping noise than I am.

First time in Derbyshire so first time here. Impressed with both.

On arrival greeted by friendly wardens who pointed out different vacant pitches and left us to choose. I believe all pitches are hardstanding with ehu. Don't know if it was me but all the pitches seemed big which was nice. There are barriers on entrance and exit but not a problem.

Site kept clean and tidy and lavatory/shower block was clean every time I used it during different times of the day.

There are 7 showers in both men's and women's which was plenty with more than enough lavatories and privacy cubicles. Never had any problems getting in and using them. Showers were nice and hot unfortunately with fixed heads. My main problem is the same across all C. C. Sites; the shower cubicles are much too small!

On site is an information room, laundry with what The Boss tells me is the best tumble dryer she has ever used and washing up room. Unusually there is a family room which has a pool table and table tennis table. Not sure what the reception has in the way of cues and bats etc. A great plus for this outdoor/walking site is a huge drying room with racks, hooks and benches.

There was a small dog walk but not, I think, a play area.

Turn right out of the gate and a short walk get you into Castleton village which has plenty of shops, cafes, pubs etc. There seemed to be everything we wanted. Recommend Rose Cottage Tea Rooms, nice food and lovely cakes (always important). Also recommend the Peveril Baker and stores. If you get in about 0745/0800 there is delicious, fresh baked bread still warm from the oven. They make their own scones (important) also delicious. Had some good picnics on top of hills with their stuff.

Turn left out of the gate gets you to Hope, a smaller village with a good greengrocers. The Blue Apple opposite the church does excellent coffee and nice cakes (still important). There is a small deli here which the lady opens at 0730 and makes up rolls and sarnies to order. Had a couple of these when we made early starts.

Not much in the way of bus services though.

Lastly and most importantly is the fact you are in the Derbyshire Peak District. We really were blown away by how beautiful it was. No point in listing all the walks as I expect you'll have your own guides and O. S. Maps but you'll see there are several starting just nearby.

We were Peak District virgins and went home with some beautiful, abiding memories, I hope you'll do the same.

We've already decided we shall return here next year. You can even hear the sea lions at night.

Booked through the Caravan club paid in full on arrival and meet at site by a wonderful lady who tolded us we were early and cannot get on till 12noon which was no problem has it was 11:30. Booking in was easy and they explained everything about how to park on plot which we were told to choose any plot with white number post ourselves then tell them our plot number. The site itself is well kept and ideally situated for great walks. The showers and toilets are clean and kept warm, water and waste disposal are well signed, elsan points are big and easily found. There's a great info room and a family room with pool table and table tennis. If you like great food try the Cheddar cheese inn we ate there twice and both times beautiful. Looking forward to going here again its a defo return for us.

Stayed here for a few days over May Day weekend 2014. Site was full but didn’t feel congested – walking around in the evening, we did notice a couple of caravans with noisy occupants, but fortunately the area around us was very quiet. Wardens very friendly, toilets/showers very clean. This site is probably the closest you will get to Castleton – an easy walk – and is ideally placed for lovely walks and scenery all around. We would be very happy to stay here again.

Been to castleton many a time whilst growing up so I already knew the area and all the fantastic walks and scenery it holds. Must have passed this site so many times but never really noticed. It was a first for us as a base to do some hill walks. I love the idea of driving around the site to choose your own pitch on arrival. First come first served.

The site itself is a typical caravan club site, different style pitches, plenty of room, some dividing hedgerows.

TV reception good. Toilet shower block very clean and showers have the turn around controls so you don't have to keep a button pressed in with your back.

Water service points nice and tidy, no steps to haul your waste hog over to empty it. Site lit at night.

Barriers on entrance and exit is always a good thing.

Castleton is within walking distance, about 15 mins. Plenty of pubs, coffee shops and gift shops as well as lots of attractions.

We loved our stay here and will definitely return again.

Three great nights here, usual high CC standard. Wardens friendly and site in good condition allowing for the very wet Winter. Toilet block really well looked after but starting to show its age when compared to newer CC sites ( Bridlington)

Pitches good and loads of wildlife. So easy to walk into Castleton or Hope and good (if wet) footpaths between. Villages and into the close by peaks.

Castleton very nice, good shops, pubs and cafés catering for all tastes. Peveril Castle worth a visit as long as you like steep paths, views fantastic.

All in all excellent
