Good site right on the banks of the loch, we had no problems with showers or lack of hot water. Great views of the loch and Red Kites, we have no young children but there is a play area. Hire of a boat is a great way to explore the loch, all in all a good site would return. Camp shop is ok for basics but Castle Douglas is only down the road. Pitches were big enough some were on a slope, no 7 no 8 were ok these also have EHU. Site is quiet and relaxed.

I have read the other reviews and feel I should leave my own.
We first stayed here in August 2006 and returned in May 2007 which was the very next time the tent came out the bag. This site is fantastic for peace & tranquility the views are Breathtaking. Waking up to deer drinking out of the other side of the loch is a wonderful way to start the day. Yes the toilets are in the middle of the caravans pitches but the walk to them is the nicest walk I've ever had to a toilet block. The staff are more than polite, ok not gushingly friendly but whenever we asked for help they were more than helpful (some people just want directing to their pitch and leaving to it! ) I don't think at any time where they rude or unhelpful.
The facilities were always clean and tidy. If you're flexible about when you want a shower then no problems. We never ran out of hot water the whole time we were there. The site is far enough from any pub not to be bothered by drunks returning after the kids are asleep. The children (9/10) had so much fun not once on site did they say they were bored. They were either on the children's play area which may not be the most modern but it was solid and safe and our two spent hours playing on it, or they were playing on the big old tree by the loch side which had a rope swing attached by the site I presume. In a world where you daren't let your children out of your sight it was great to see them have so much safe freedom. All the cars on site seemed to stick to the 10mph speed limit so we had no worries allowing the children to go to the loo or the site shop on their own
The site shop was so well stocked the owner drives into Castle Douglas (approx 9 mile) every day for essentials like milk, bread and newspapers it also stocks things like ice-cream & lightweight footballs much safer around tents! We never used the hire service but canoes etc where available on both half day and full day rates which seemed very reasonable and they included all safety equipment.
All in all we think if you don't want a rowdy site with booze and loud music this is the site for you. It's a perfect base for the whole of Dumfries and Galloway only 1 tip turn right out of the site or you have to drive 45 mins to get round the top of the loch
One place you must visit is Cream of Galloway a working ice cream farm with tours and tasting sessions a fantastic day out and not to pricey either ( £7 per person I think for tasting 11 different ices and the farm tour ) Family tickets available. On the left on way to Gatehouse of Fleet

We loved Loch Ken! We pitched very close to the loch shore and had lovely views and lots of space even when busy. We hired canoes(great rate for this rare facility) and had a blast exploring the loch, even dared a little paddle :o) Location was ok, close enough to Castle Douglas and 7stanes mountain biking centres! Shower cubicles a little small for comfort, especially as they ran on 50p tokens. Overall a great stay and well worth a visit!

Camped here for a night in midsummer. The site is very basic and a bit run-down and the midges were out in force. Loads of space for tents and other units and we had loads of space to ourselves so we weren't disturbed by others. The site's a pretty good base for exploring the area of Dumfries and Galloway.

Picked this site as is 30mins away and OH demanded 'water' to play with his new inflatable canoe! Had a nice time overall
The site is easy to find and is close enough to Castle Douglas that you can visit by car or bus if you have forgotten anything. Pulled on to the site, lots of statics initially, then a lot of season pitched tourers and finally the bottom of the hill next to the high water line is where the tourers go. The office wasn't open being early in the season so a map was left showing where we could pitch. We chose a pitch and the warden arrived just in time to help us push the van in to place. The site has only 1 available hard standing as far as we could see. The site also slopes down to the water.
Pitched up quite happy with views over the loch and 6 pitches to ourselves-, which was a good job as when a neighbour turned up we could have held hands across the space from tourer to tourer there is enough room for van and car and that is it with no space between. Next morning sent bloke to get shower tokens- 50p now but I found I had to use 2 so quite steep really.
The showers were ok- spray head fixed type with lots of hot water but no adjustable temperature.
Overall the site is less regimented than the CC sites for example and is in a lovely location. One interesting thing to note is that they offer a 'half day' for extending your stay- excellent idea!
