Spent four nights at Loch Ken last week, what an amazing site, immaculate facilities, beautiful scenery, really friendly helpful staff, we were put on the loch side pitch 16, absolutely massive pitches, well worth a visit, lots to do for children even a kids club, the site is well looked after with flower beds, and mowed loch side walks, lots of wild life Red Kites fly over the site, it, s a little bit of paradise, we will be back !

Just spent 2 nights here and really enjoyed it. Perfect place situated next to the loch. Seen a few Red Kites flying over us most of the day. Camp field is massive. A good play area for the kids and a mini football pitch. There was electric hookups there but not a lot so you will have to book in advance to get these. As you walk through the park there is a little shop which we were only in once but seemed to be well stocked.

Adjacent to the shop there is another park for the kids with loads there, including Swings, slide, table tennis, mini assault coarse type thing, going chess/droughts set. There is also bikes to hire and canoes to hire.

There is a large area for dog walking. They also don't mind you having fire pits.

When we arrived there was a guy with a van with speakers attached playing the guitar and singing. We pitched at the far end of the camp field and we could still here him. Good fun having live music.

The only gripe we had was in the camp field the toilet block was porta cabins which contained 3 toilets and 3 showers in each. They were cleaned once a day and kept to an excellent standard but, during the coarse of the day they started to block with kids running in and out. I think that would be worse if it was really busy. There is also other toilets next to the shop which were far better. Family shower cubicles and each shower cubicle had a toilet and a sink. We went in there a couple of times and they were spotless.

All in all I loved this site and am looking forward to going back. Its not far from us so its going to be our regular getaway place.

Just spent 2 nights at this wonderful site. We chose it because it was easily located both for my husband and me and also for relatives meeting us from Ireland. We were then all travelling together to Fort William.

Well what a good choice we made, we were greeted by the Owner who was very cheerful and helpful. The hard standing pitches were of a very good size and flat. The site is very well maintained and the toilet block was getting a paint job on the outside. The inside, however, took our breath away. The toilets were modern and spotlessly clean, the 3 shower cubicles contained a toilet, separate shower and a wash basin. Absolute bliss, complete privacy and no wet clothes.

There was also a laundry room and washing up area. This site also caters for tents and has a separate camping field with its own toilets and washing up area.

There are 2 play areas for children and you can hire boats and all the safety gear on site.

There is a bus stop right outside the gate and we popped into Castle Douglas and had a lovely time looking around the town and visiting one of the cafe's.

The site is close to the Red Kite trail and has some wonderful scenery. We would highly recommend this site and wished we could have stayed longer.

 Pros:

Beautiful views

Flat pitch

Lots of information on the area

Great play park for children.

Boats to hire for use on the loch.

Very child friendly, kids loved it!

Cons:

Showers in ablution block beside tent field were difficult to use with a child and kept running cold.

There was another block past the shop which was better but self limiting shower was frustrating especially as children found them hard to operate.

Would prefer to pay and have a better shower.

Manager did suggest we could get the key to the disabled shower but we were on our way home.

Visited early May weekend. Had to cancel first night owing to forecast of torrential rain and winds. Arrived on Saturday and shown by staff to our ehu pitch F6. We were told which way to pitch, facing directly onto the Loch. There are 12 ehu and it appears odd numbers pitch to the top of the field with even in front. We pitched our 7x4 tunnel tent and I immediately felt guilty at partially blocking the view of the guy behind us however that's what we were told. Ground is fairly level and well drained despite the rain.

Toilet blocks were 30 mtrs away. Throughout our stay weather was windy, drizzly and grey but the views are amazing. Non ehu can pitch lochside. New caravan hardstanding pitches have been built to the edge of the tent field, these do not impede the view. Tent field toilets were fine thought cramped. We used the toilet block in the caravan / static area as it was warmer and more spacious and had far less grass to contend with. Staff really helpful and made routine checks around site which was also very quiet at night.

Loads to do in area, Galloway ice cream factory and Dalscone farm park. 2 great full days out with the kids for a reasonable price both within 25 minutes drive. Weather rubbish but we enjoyed our stay. Would love to re visit in sunnier weather.

Myself, my wife and 14 year old daughter have just returned from a four night stay at the Loch Ken Holiday Park.

Loch Ken is situated on the A713 approx 7 miles west of Castle Douglas. Loch Ken is a tranquil and scenic location with activities available such as fishing, boat hire and plenty of walks.

The pitches are level and are hardstanding. The view that we had looking out from our caravan front window was supberb. However, we did feel a bit close to the other caravans as there was no privacy between the caravans. Our only concern would be if it would be cramped in the summer.

The toilet and shower facilities are excellent with cubicles that have a toilet, hand washing basing and shower all in the one cubicle. The bathroom facilities are all very modern with lots of hot water.

We were just a little disappointed as when we visited Loch Ken there was no toilet paper restocked in the dispensers from the Wednesday until the Saturday, maybe due to end of season.

There was also adequate dish washing and laundry facilities available.

Castle Douglas is approx 15 mins drive away where you will find Tescos and a good range of local shops selling most things that you will require along with chinese and indian takeaways and chip shops.

We really enjoyed our stay and cant wait to visit again during the summer time.

This is a fantastic site - the views are jaw dropping and even our teenagers commented on how amazing the view from the washing up area is and anyone with teenagers knows a view has to be impressive for a teen to even notice it!

The location is great for visiting the local area with small town close by with lots of shops including a Tesco. There is lots to do nearby- beaches, rare birds, deer, forest walks, boating on the loch. We ran out of time on our week to do every thing!

The staff are really nice, especially the site owner who was always around if needed and very helpful, friendly and chatty. He checked all around the tent field after a storm to see if everyone was ok.

There is a takeaway van on the tent field which does great bacon butties and lots of other things - open mornings and evenings. The people who run this are also very friendly and helpful and have lots of info about the local area.

Next to the tent field is a large field with dog walking area where our two dogs loved to be taken to chase a ball.

The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly with well maintained pitches and lots of space. The loos and showers were probably the best we have seen on a campsite - free, hot, spotless clean, no queues, free hair dryers, sinks and loos in shower rooms in one block as well as sep loos. I can't praise them enough! Shop was well stocked and free use of freezer for ice block refreezing. 10 out of 10 is the highest score I have ever given for this area but it was spot on! Even free entertainment for kids and music on Sat evening.

We will be back!

Spent a great seven days at this site last week. The location is ideal being about 6 miles from the nearest town with a large selection of shops. Lots of things to do in the local area. Easy to reach off the motorway networks.

The site itself is very well laid out and although on first sight I thought it appeared cramped I have to admit that after the first day I realised that it wasn't cramped but well organised.

The showers and toilets in the caravan section were spotless all the time and were free to use with an ample supply of hot water, the shower cubicles also contained a toilet and sink. Contrary to some reviews I never found that I had to queue for the shower although I never used the showers in the camping field.

The site shop is reasonably well stocked for all the essentials and there is a catering van on the site which is open in the morning and evening which serves the best fish and chips I have tried in the recent past, they also do a great curry and bacon butties at a reasonable price. The owners of the van are very friendly and chatty and are glad to provide insight into the local area.

While I am on about people I found the site owner to be very friendly and talkative and unlike several other reviewers I had no problems with his 'strictness' he could even be seen joining in with the entertainer. All the staff at the site are very pleasant and helpful.

The children's playing area is well thought out and spaced so that ball games can be played without having to worry about hitting vans or other people. Having two children aged 11 and 9 it is very pleasant to find a site where you don't have to worry about them crossing roadways and they can be given free rein to play, the only proviso to that is the close proximity of the loch which gets deep very quickly, however I never saw any children in the slightest risk, in the words of my daughter 'it's amazingly amazing'.

The highlight of the week for our children and it appeared all the other children on the site was when the loch overflowed turning the play area into a water park. Although worrying for the adults only two units had to be moved and the staff kept us updated.

I have been trying to think of a downside to the site and the only one I can think of is completey out of anyones control and that is the midgies. Having caravanned in Loch Lomond I should have been prepared but forgot and discovered to my wifes irritation that they are well and truly present in the early evening and like the taste of her ankles!

In short I will return to this site but will take the Avon skin so soft next time

Even a couple of storms didn't spoil our five nights here. Lovely setting. Didn't take ehu so had a pitch right at loch side.

Staff very friendly, Mungo came round the tent field after storm to ask if everything was ok.

Ignore some reviews about strictness of site. Steve and Jill at food van do serve up some really good grub.

Tesco and Co-op in Castle Douglas, 9 miles. Visit Kippford, lovely wee village also Clatteringshaws loch all close by.

Galloway Activity Centre 5 mins along the road has plenty for both adults and kids. Will be back.
