Just returned from 9 nights stay, and loved it!. Me my wife and 3 kids and dog and we all want to go back next year.
Toilet/portacabin were spotless with hot showers, tent field was sloping in places but our pitch was fine with EHU. Staff friendly and helpful, shop had the basics, plenty to do on site, fishing, table tennis, rowing boats, kids club or just chilling with a beer and admiring the scenery.
There are lots of places to visit ie Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart, Kirkudbright etc.
One small criticism was some people were noisy when walking to the toilets well after the 10pm quiet signs but fair play to them they apologised the morning after.
All in all a good site, well done Loch Ken Holiday Park

We loved this campsite, and would highly recommend to anyone camping with a family. We were well looked after on arrival, and encouraged to pitch where we liked rather than in a designated pitch. This means you can spread out a bit! The tent field has a lot of slopes, and if you wanted an EHU you may end up pitching on a slope, but we didn't so were fine.
Great children's play area, boat hire is very good and all kids loved the rope swing. Also, buy yourself a £5 crayfish net and get catching a free dinner - they're delicious!
If you have a caravan beware - everyone looked a little packed in. There's enough room for your car and caravan and that's it.
Toilets were always clean - the portacabin in the tent field is a bit tight for elbow room in the showers, but the one near the shop and caravans has much more room. Free hairdryers in there too.
We left early, but only because the weather was terrible - 5 days of rain and wind left us worn out, but we would definitely go back. Our 6 year old had tears when we told her we were leaving early!
Loads to do in the surrounding area - we did Cream O Galloway (amazing ice cream!) and Logan Botanic Garden, amongst other things. Great place for a family holiday.

We stayed here for three nights, on arrival the staff are extremley helpful and couldn't do more for you.
We stayed in the Caravan site and I have to say it was very busy, we turned up without booking and they managed to fit us in. The pitch we were given was very close to our neighbours on both sides which was quite a disappointment. I would say this was the only downside to the actual site itself.
We were looking for a peaceful break away however with the pitches so close together it was rather noisy.
The shower block and toilets are spotless which is an added bonus. At times it gets rather busy and I found I had to wait for a cubicle to come free.
Overall a nice three night stay, not to sure if I would go back due to the pitch spaces.

We stayed at this campsite on our tour around Scotland for 10 days. Upon arrival the warden was very friendly and helpful offering us a few spots in which to pitch within the vast tent field.
The site is geared mainly for static holiday homes and caravans, with the tent field as an extension, but this did not bother us at all. Our pitch overlooked the Loch which was a lovely site to wake up too every morning.
There is a play park on the edge of the Loch which is centrally located for all, which was a great idea for kids to entertain themselves with hours of fun.
The toilets were clean and very modern although they did get very busy at certain times, they were cleaned thoroughly everyday and any repairs was carried out immediately. The dish washing facilities were adequate, although they were also busy at peak times.
The laundry facilities were good and reasonably priced.
During our stay we always found the staff very helpful and always there to advise to great places to visit, also among their other duties kept the site spotless including any painting that needed doing.
The shop was well stocked with essentials, although there is a Londis shop in the next village and more shops in Castle Douglas which is only a few miles away.
Campsites like this are more suited to those who abide by the unwritten campsite rules that time served campers understand, where as short term Glampers seem to have total disregard for other campers around them and continue making unacceptable levels of noise till late at night.
Overall this was our favourite campsite of the holiday because of the location, relaxed atmosphere and friendliness of everyone, oh by the way the weather wasn’t bad either which is a bonus for Scotland.

We have just returned from the most magical 2 night break. On arrival, Mungo, the owner, could not have been more welcoming and took us to the tent field. We had a perfect pitch. It was absolutely stunning.
What we really noticed immediately was the family atmosphere. I felt quite happy for my 9 and 6 year olds to play and potter to the play area or loos on their own. Our son could launch his kayak and paddle in the loch with me watching from the tent. The children loved the swing. The camp was completely quiet at 10pm.
I was really impressed by the facilities - all pristine and I never once queued - plus masses of hot water.
There is a little shop which stocks basics as well as fishing permits.
There aren't really any local pubs to go for lunch but we went to the Lock Ken Bridge Hotel which was delicious.
We'd have liked a few extra days as there are some good places to visit and the children would have happily played longer in the loch.
We shall most certainly be back next year.

We stayed at this campsite on our tour around Scotland for 2 nights. On arrival everyone in reception were very helpful and showed us to our pitch. Our pitch overlooked the Loch and was only about 300 yards away which was fantastic.
There is a play park on the edge of the Loch which is centrally located for all, our 3 year old loved playing in it. It is a brilliant location for children, with them being able to play and swim in or on the banks of the Loch.
The toilets were clean and very modern although they did get very busy at certain times. The dish washing facilities were adequate, although they were also busy at peak times.
The laundry facilities were good and reasonably priced. You can hire kayaks from the shop but we took our own and had a fantastic time paddling around the Loch.
The shop was well stocked with essentials, although there is a Londis shop in the next village and more shops in Castle Douglas which is only a few miles away.
Overall this was our favourite campsite of the holiday because of the location, relaxed atmosphere and friendliness of everyone, oh and the weather was lovely which helped.

Just returned from a 10 day break taking in Edinburgh Dumfries and Galloway, and Eskdale. Loch Ken was our middle stop and acted as our base for four nights.
Upon arrival the warden was very friendly and helpful offering us a few spots in which to pitch within the vast tent field. The site is geared mainly for static holiday homes and caravans, with the tent field as an extension.
As a result, the facilities are somewhat limited. Initially we presumed the only showers and toilets we in the portacabin at the other side of the field - these are okay and cleaned once a day, and provide three showers and toilets for both male and female.
Whilst we were there the tent field was busy (approx. 40+ units) and therefore the cabin was over used and could do with additional cleaning throughout the day.
We did however find another shower and toilet block in the caravan area. This provides better facilities and was worth the extra couple of minutes walk from where we'd pitched. The washing up area was here too, but is the only one for the whole site that we could find - three sinks isn't really enough for a site of this size and it was a good five minute walk from where we pitched.
The location of the site provides some brilliant views accross Loch Ken, and despite some awful weather these views remained spectacular. We enjoyed a nice evening walk down to the lake side.
The surrounding area we found to be a little hit and miss. The good included mountain biking at Dalbeattie, RSPB reserve at Ken Dee (directly across the loch from the site but due to a disused bridge, you need to drive), Kippford and a walk out to Rough Island, views across the sand at Sandyhills and the pub at New Galloway (good pub food).
However we were disappointed with Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright and the overall lack of cafes and decent pubs in the surrounding villages / towns. It's a real un-touristy area which is brilliant in many respects but at the same time, we felt the need for some extra eateries around the place.
Loch Ken is a good site and if you don't mind being on a big site (with it's obvious disadvantages of busy facilities, noisy neighbours and lack of intimacy) you maybe won't feel the small niggles we did.
Not sure we'd return as we prefer smaller, quieter sites and the area as a whole didn't quite deliver as we'd hoped it would.

We arrived and the site and was greeted by very friendly staff who then introduced us to the site warden who showed us our pitch which was brilliant, he was also very pleasant and helpful.
We was non electric and stayed in the large tent field overlooking the Loch, lovely views.
All the toilets and showers were spotless and never busy.
We had a fair bit of rain and the field entrance did get a little boggy but if like us you have a 4x4 its no problem.
Spent a few days touring Galloway Forest Park, very nice place with lots of walks and lovely views. Also had a go at kyaking on the Loch, very good.
All in all a great site and location.

Stayed in this site for 2 nights with other 5 families and we all had a wonderful time. Big space and no pitch restrictions. Kids and adults enjoyed the canoe.
We hired the canoe for half a day which was good because it was from after 5.30 until the following morning at 8.30am.
Toilet blocks are ok, only a bit small. There is another block of toilets which is further down but bigger.
Big play ground for kids which is really good.
Only minus bit was we were only there for 2 nights. We are planning to go back in September if everyone could get the same days off.

I won't bore you with the descriptions as there are numerous other reviews on here regarding this. The point I wanted to raise is that if you are thinking of visiting this site in a tent and want electric hook up don't bother. As another review mentioned this site caters primarily for static/tourers and the tent field is there as an afterthought.
To get the electrics to the tent field the owners have teed off the nearest electric in the main static field which then puts the electric hook up points right at the top left of the tent field - the hilliest part of the whole tent field and also right next to the portacabin toilet/shower block.
Now when I say the hilliest part of the field I really do mean it. Two tents were pitched against the drystone wall and the the pitch was almost at a 45 degree angle. Upon arrival we were taken to our pitch and told that the adjacent tent had encroached onto our own pitch and so was given a mains extension and shown to pitch in front of them putting our pitch about 15 meters from the portacabin.
All through the night people visiting the loos were loud not respecting other sleeping campers. Would I return. Not a chance.
