Have just returned from Norman's Bay. They must have read the review about the long grass and acted, because when we went all the grass was well cut. When people vacated their pitches the grass was cut ready for the next person.
It's not a C & CC site that we would return to though. None of the friendliness that you get on most of the other sites from fellow campers. Loads of non-members, so on 90% of visits to the showers they needed mopping out before I could use them as they had been left dirty - this was probably due to no signs up, but there was always a mop and bucket outside. Having said that toilets were clean as you come to expect.
There are 3 toilet/shower blocks. One houses parent and child and disabled facilities. We used the disabled facilities for our disabled child and found it to be really good, even having a heater which comes on when the shower is used. Even in the middle of summer she gets cold when having a shower, so thumbs up to that idea. There is a games room for the children, but all of the games and puzzles etc. Have been taken, so all that was left was one puzzle and lots of tables and chairs!
All of the staff were incredibly friendly and quick to act when problems arose, i.E. Noise late at night and children cycling round and round the toilet blocks.
Had a very mixed bag of weather; when it's windy, it sure is windy. Luckily no damage to the tent thank goodness.
The site was predominantly caravans with a few tents here and there and is ideal for the beach, although stoney, as previously mentioned. Most people seemed to like to shut themselves in with windbreaks too.
Large Asda and Tesco's nearby. Didn't eat out so can't comment although have heard that The Star Inn nearby was a very good eating house. Fish and Chip van comes on site twice a week, although it did seem expensive - £6.50 for cod and chips. Site shop is well stocked as previously mentioned in another review.
Railway line runs behind the site with frequent trains, although not a problem really as only small local trains. The Coast Road on which the site is situated is subject to 'boy racers' and lads on scooters who speed up and down until quite late at night. Probably not too much of a problem if you are over the other side of the site, but when you are right next to the road, does get slightly annoying when then they go backwards and forwards alot!

We decided to try Norman's Bay after reading about it in the club magazine. We go to this area every year to take mother to see her sister. She stays with sister - we usually stay at the Folkestone site. So we gave Norman's Bay a try. A mistake! Grass was long, we stayed near the old toilet bock. You had to run about in the shower to get wet! The men's urinals leaked and had a bucket underneath - I see this as a priority repair but they were like this for the 3 days we were there. Roads were potholed, Generally the site was scruffy - something we are not used to at C&C club sites, particularly as after 3 days we moved to Folkestone C&C Club site where everthing was fantastic!

Have just returned from a two night stay at this site. The staff were very friendly, if a little ever present.
The facilities were clean and warm! There were two showers in the facilities near our tent, which meant that there was some queueing but it could be missed if timed right. The showers were definitely not power showers, more dripping tap, but they were hot, so that made up for it.
They were VERY strict about not playing ball games on site. And , yes the beach was just across the road, but its not easy to play footie on stones!
Having said that the kids loved the beach and sea and were nipping over there on and off all day. The site shop was well stocked, and you definitely wouldn't go hungry. However, that said we opted to eat out and found a lovely pub about mile and half up the road called The Smugglers Inn, which did reasonable pub fare at a reasonable price and there was a lovely big garden for the kids to play in. And a nice pint of Spit Fire!
We would consider going again, but not being C & CC members thought that it was a little expensive.

We had 3 nights at Normans bay and to be honest the site is a bit of a mixed bag. We arrived Friday late afternoon and found the staff to be friendly, efficient and helpful. The warden even help push the camper in to the right position after showing us our pitch. The site is large, flat and right on top of the (stony) beach, which does make it rather exposed to the weather. Friday night we came to realize that the other reviews here regarding the wind were not wrong. I saw one mans tent turned in to a kite and most caravan awnings were secured with storm straps. During the night the sound of the sea was quite loud and there is a branch line close by. We returned from Brighton Saturday afternoon to see the site full of tents, caravans and motor homes which were all a bit crammed on top of each other. The toilet block was clean enough although given the amount of pitches on the site I would think only having 2 showers would mean you queuing for a wash. There was a second block on the other side of the field that I didn't visit. The site shop, though small, was quite well stocked. I am always a little surprised at a shop which sells kites and balls on a site that strictly prohibits using them! Its location is near Eastbourne and between Hastings and Brighton, so if you don't mind a 20 minute drive there is plenty to do. There are several takeawaya 1 mile from the site in the town and a small unmanned station to the left as you walk out of the gate if you fancy a train ride to Brighton or Hastings(there is also 1 to the right nearly 2 miles away that you pass on your way in,). Unfortunately on the Sunday the wind and rain made packing away a nightmare. Would I book Normans bay again? No! it is just to exposed to high winds and a bit of a soul less site. Roll on next week when we pick up our caravan and no longer have to worry about packing away a wet tent or being blown away(although at Normans bay I wouldn't be supprised) GF

Having been to this site several times, we shan't be returning! After a change of manager, we found the site to be less than welcoming this time around. The grass where we were placed was almost knee high, not good when it's rained overnight and you're in a tent! The site wardens were quite rude and whilst they liked riding around on bikes yelling at children (not ours) for breaking the no ball games rule (a five year old!) they were not so keen on cleaning the loos/showers. It's great to be by the beach, but is very windy at all times, several tents had their poles bent when we were there, all the caravan awnings needed storm straps. Lots to do in the area, even keeping our teenagers amused was easy.

The Hop Farm Touring And Camping Park
Set in 500 acres of beautiful, rolling Kent countryside. The Oast village on site is the World's largest Oast house collection and makes for a spectacular backdrop. Grass and hardstanding pitches for caravans, tents and motorhomes with electric option. Modern toilets and showers and multiple washing up facilities.
Small shop onsite and pub/restaurant at the entrance. The River Medway flows through the site, providing idyllic waterside pitches. Make the most of the location and try your hand at canoeing or fishing or simply sit back, unwind and enjoy wildlife spotting. We have just got back from a truly lovely stay at this ideal campsite. We stayed for 3 nights over the mini heatwave weekend! Although the Saturday night was busy, the campsite was full, after going out for the day on Sunday, we came back to find a lot had gone home, so there was more space. On arrival we were shown to our pitch, there are excellent facilities here, the shower blocks were clean and hot water. The pitches are flat, I would imagine if the weather hadn't of been so good, it could get windy there as it is very open. But the warm sea breezes were a very welcome addition during a mini heatwave! The site shop is small and I can also add that the fresh bakery products are very lovely. If you walk across the road, you are on a lovely pebble beach, privatley owned by the campsite! This is a great area for riding your bikes, it's lovely and flat, the train station is a short walk away with regular trains to Hastings, Eastbourne and Brighton. Asda supermarket is a short drive away. Overall would receommend and will definatly be going back.

We have just returned from a long weekend at this site with our grandchildren. We have used the site before. The site wardens were all very helpful and friendly. The toilets and showers were as you come to expect from a C&C club site 10 out of 10. The beach is dog friendly and we found plenty to do with a visit to Hastings, this is a better option with children than Eastbourne. We will return to this site another time.

Very nice quiet relaxing site opposite beach. Wardens very friendly and helpful (The one I spoke to was new to the site this year) No-one objected to my son kicking a ball around and throwing a Frisbee. Ideal for beach holiday although pebble beach there was plenty of sand when the tide was out. Not much on site for the kids to do apart from the beach but Eastbourne and the new harbour village are only a short drive. Shop didn't carry much but fresh bread was excellent and there is a big Asda nearby. There were two toilet blocks and the one we used was spotless although there were only three showers so we had to queue and the campsite wasn't even full. The other block also only had three showers this more for the tents and wasn't quite so clean. I would definitely go back again but I think the children like more to do on site.

We spent a few days on this site and thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. The energetic lawn mower driver did put in an appearance, but then the site has an awful lot of grass which needs cutting. We'd soon moan if the grass was left too long. All the children on site were well behaved and quiet (thanks to the parents being in control) so the wardens had no need to shout and our quietude was undisturbed. Even the trains were more useful than intrusive; Norman's Bay halt is a few minutes (jog) away and the rail service is ideal for exploring further along the coast in both directions. The games room wasn't open, which we thought unusual on a peak week, and the shower block could have been cleaned more often - but that often says more about the users than the wardens. Wed be happy to return there when in the area.

It took four wardens to book us into this site, and they were not particularly friendly. When we ran out of gas they would not sell us any as it was after hours - despite a notice advertising that gas would be sold after hours. Not a good start. The no ball games rule was sad, although some families broke this rule. Facilities were clean and well tended, and the site was a few minutes from the beach. Windy and near to trains which weren't a problem.
