Just returned from 4 very pleasant and relaxing nights at Norman's Bay.

We can't think of any bad points about the place and would certainly recommend it, however we were told by some to avoid it during the school holidays as it gets very busy - luckily we can now take our holidays during term time so can avoid the over crowding.

The owners put everything into keeping the site clean and well run. Gravel hard standings, great toilet block.

No kids around so had great Lay ins in the mornings. Relaxed atmosphere.

Would come here again.

This club site in peak season you would expect to be busy and it was. Certainly in places, which is a majority of grass pitches it was somewhat crowded.

The good things about the site is that is right opposite the beach. The beach is a long unspoilt pebble beach which allows dogs on it all year round. It is also a shortish walk to the local train halt where the service will take you right across the network. The local pub is slightly further away but does not admit dogs.

On the adverse side you expect high standards for the relatively high price the club charge, but due to old age, the facilities look tired and in need of an update. Fortunately we have enjoyed a dry summer. But, if it was a standard wet summer, even though the site is level, with the large preponderance of grass pitches it may resemble the Glastonbury mud!

Very accommodating site that arranged for the family to all camp together. Facilities average but then it was a bank holiday weekend! and under the circumstances the staff coped very well, queues to check in etc.

My real complaint about this site was that camping on the grass near the toilets meant a continual stream of people walking through my pitch with no consideration to my space!

Ideal site for the beach if you like pebbles and mud! Windy enough to fly kites and get seriously sunburnt!

Very pleasant staff and in general a well looked after site. My kids had a great time as did my wife and I. However, I would like to mention two things that I think could be greatly improved. Firstly the system of registering and then being personally shown to the pitch is a nice idea but does not work as we had to wait 30 mins with despite being second in the queue. With a car full of moaning kids this felt like a lifetime. Secondly, they really need to clean the facilities more often than once a day. This cleaning occurs at lunchtime and thus by morning the whole unit is a state and for the price I would have thought that they could stretch to a more frequent cleaning schedule.

Popular Choice in this Area

Broadhembury Holiday Park - Ashford

Just 15 minutes from Ashford and 25 minutes from fabulous beaches, you'll be ideally placed for exploring the Garden of England. The park is divided into a family area, that is close to the play parks, the sports field and the games room, and a peaceful adult-only area in The Meadows, that is ideal for couples. A range of grass and hardstanding pitches, fully serviced or non electric, catering for all sized of tents and caravans.

On both areas you will enjoy five-star, centrally-heated showers, and private cubicles with toilet, hand basin, dryers etc. Laundry and campers kitchens, a large childrens playground, sports field, games room and television lounge. The park has CCTV and WiFi is available for a small fee. A dog walking area is provided on site. Find out more here

Arrived on Thursday to a very quiet site, staff nice and friendly and gave us the opportunity to choose our pitch.

Had a very peaceful Thursday afternoon and evening, unfortunately the Friday was not the same, families in tents turned up and allowed their children to run wild screaming and shouting till 2315 hrs whilst the parents sat around drinking alcohol not bothered that their ‘snowflakes’ were causing disturbances to other campers.

Generally a really nice campsite providing you don’t get inconsiderate people there at the same time.

Love this site. Right near the beach. BEWARE OF SUBMERGED OBSTACLES. Check-in is 1pm which grates a bit as the day is half over but I can see why they wouldn't want people leaving meeting people arriving as the roads are rather narrow with no where to pass unless you happen to be really lucky and hit a passing bay at the correct time. Just remember Murphy's Law exists for a reason. OK so your day is half over before even setting up so for an overnight stay time is precious, the reason why we took the camper van as opposed to convertible caravan and why lunch was made before setting off. Given the check in time being a bit of a pain when you want to miss rush hour traffic what do you do, well you can hang out at ASDA in Eastbourne. Get there early, do a bit of shopping, maybe something to eat and before you know it you can finish the last 15 minutes and arrive in time for check in. Once shown to your site by a warden you are free to set up and then hit the beach. This site can be windy, really windy so just be aware of that and avoid setting up near a windbreak or awning that is clearly going to fly into your set up at some point. Once you have tired of the beach say around 5pm there is a chance to walk to The Star Inn, an old smugglers pub and have a drink and dinner or if you didn't book and couldn't get a table you can really test your BBQs performance in the wind, or cook behind your wind break assuming it's still there. This is a lovely sunny site so a quiet relaxed drink in the evening is perfect. Kite flying is done at the beach and there are no ball games allowed so you really get to relax. An earlier review mentioned the location of the rubbish bins. I'll have this set up any day. It is too windy to have a bin on every corner and the site would suffer from rubbish flying everywhere if this was adapted. I'd have no hesitation returning here and please be sure to read some other reviews as my focus has been on strategies to enjoy your overnight stay at Normans Bay not washrooms, kitchens, and kids play area.

Love this site. We don't stay on club sites anymore except this one. The wardens are the best nothing is too much trouble, they are happy, friendly and helpful. The site although busy is quiet and calm. It has one of the best situations right next to a wonderful dog friendly shingle beach, which is clean, quiet and perfect for swimming. Train and buses are near and easy to get to to Eastbourne and Hastings. Lots of lovely walking opportunities, we have a dog so all these are important for us. Had a wonderful stay. PS it is a bit windy there so make sure you bring extra pegs and guy ropes!

Norman's bay is approached via a narrow private road through a run down strip of poor quality housing with a slightly creepy atmosphere, a bit like Dungeness, so it's quite a relief to find a well kept campsite at journey's end. We booked in, got a code for the barrier and were shown to our pitch: 'Anywhere on this bit. You need to be 20 feet from the next unit. EHU's over there. You're nice and close to the loos. ' I thought we would be troubled by passing traffic as we were all but blocking the access to our area, but either nobody moved much or they were coming and going some other way. It was a good pitch.

It's very flat and rather exposed, with many caravans and motorhomes packed in. The ground is good and resembles a well mown field rather than a manicured lawn. The facilities are excellent - bright, clean, warm and user friendly. The showers are push button, but you get a good half minute per press. I'm new to C&CC sites so maybe that's normal. There's an older block down by the caravan storage area which was also more than satisfactory. The pot wash is under cover and features press taps which run for 10 - 15 seconds per press - very handy for rinsing. All the facilities shut between 11am and noon for cleaning, coinciding irritatingly with chucking off site time on your last day. Waste and recycling is in big, stinky hoppers over by the site entrance and a bit of a schlep: convenient for the management rather than the campers.

There's a small, unremarkable play area at the top of the site and a 'recreation room' at the other end with a pool table (£1 a game) and a table tennis table. You can purchase awful bat and ball sets for a fiver at the site shop. We had the room to ourselves and had quite a blast for half an hour.

The local area has an interesting history and is full of things to see and do. The beach is usable if a bit bleak, but very conveniently right over the road. All the supermarkets can be found in Eastbourne, but the gigantic Asda is probably the most convenient.

What a lovely surprise arriving at Normans bay.

We arrived at 1 O'Clock so it was busy, no problem for them. We were taken to our pitch and guided in.

We were near the toilet facilities but not too close, as you could hear the hand driers.

Reception staff were friendly and great with your needs, the shop was well stocked.

Quite a large campsite and seemed full but didn't notice a lot of people.

Trains go by the site all day and evening but they are not intrusive.

Just across the road you have the pebble beach, great for us as we have a kayak so didn't have to carry it far.

There are two very close train stops, we took a train to Hastings, cheaper than we thought a good service.

We were very lucky with the weather 30 degrees every day. In the evenings we had bbq's on the beach.

The Aqua bar on the beach is a 20 minute walk. They allow dogs and have entertainment every night. We didn't eat there but the food looked good.

There was another pub toward Bexhill a short walk along the road, left out of the campsite. 'The star' very much catered to feeding you. It is a really old pub but we felt it had lost its character.

We loved our stay and would go again if we were going East again.

Be warned! If you use a sat nav it tries to take you down a road not suitable for caravans, this is on the first roundabout as you enter Pevensey.

When you get to Pevensey Bay the road that takes you to the campsite is full of pot holes and blind sleeping policemen, go really slow.
