This is one of the best campsites I've been to. Shower and toilet facilities basic but clean and tidy. Washing up facilities a little bit basic but there are plenty of sinks and lots of hot water.
The location of the site is its best feature. It nestles at the side of Derwent Water and you can sit on the benches right by the lake and watch your dog or kids play in the water. The town centre is a 5 minute walk away with lots of nice pubs - all of which were dog friendly.
The fish and chip shop in the centre of the town has an enormous queue outside and if you try some, you'll understand why. They're great.
Keswick has loads of really great walking shops and you can take your dog in all of them - they don't mind.
Causey Pike and Cat Bells are nearby and well worth climbing.
We've already booked to go back next year.

Spent one night on this trip when stopping over in Keswick on a canoe / camping trip. Pitches for tents are superb and are right on the lake.
The site is a few minutes walk from Keswick with all the local amenities you need and excellent nighlife. It's a great base for canoeing as you can arrive right on the site from the lake and launch from there to visiting the island and local placs such as Portiscale and Grange.
I've stayed here a few times now and have always got a very warm welcome. Until this time. We met a few of the wardens on the site and they were great, but the lady working behind the counter was plain rude. Never mind, didn't let that affect our stay. And I'll certainly return.

Last visited this site some 25 years ago! Enjoyed our second visit. Very friendly and helpful staff (reception is currently housed in a portakabin, since the November floods). Loved the pitches near the lake looking down Borrowdale and over to Cat Bells - entertained by the geese, ducks and swans which are around and about at the moment. Only three or four other tents on site. Had lovely (if rather cold and frosty) weather whilst we were there.
As previously said, the toilet block and washing - up areas were spotless and I didn't think they were 'tired'. Good idea having individual cubicles for washing.
Surprised at the number of motor homes on the site, especially at this time of the year, although I suppose it's probably because many of the other sites are still closed.
Very handy for supermarket and bars etc. Bryson's pies are lovely!
Initially thought price rather steep, as non CCC members. However, asked for price list to take back to a friend and in the course of the conversation, the lady on reception told me that if we were thinking of joining, then all our non- member supplements would be refunded. Plus, they offer over 55s discount low & mid season (as do many other CCC sites) - so we joined - worked out very reasonable. They are open until 3rd week in November & reopen 2nd week of Feb, so it's great for us. We will definitely be returning off season!

Arrived mid afternoon to a rain lashed site. The lane to which was flooded as were a lot of the pitches. The warden guides you to a pitch and was very helpful and friendly considering he had been in the rain all day doing this, and even brought planks etc to use as our walk way to the van. There are 2 toilet blocks which were always cleaned regularly.
An ideal location for walking, boating and visiting Keswick town, which is only 5 mins from site with all the charm expected and having many local pubs serving good food all day. We visited the Bank Inn for an excellent meal at a very reasonable price.
We will definitely visit this site again hopefully having better weather although it is what is expected of the lakes

We stayed here for 5 nights at the beginning of October. Location , location, location - wow this site has Derwentwater Water on one side and fells on the other.
We were pitched in the 2nd field, which did not have the lake views, the site was always very busy, and soon filled up again as soon as anyone left. The facilities as said before are quite tired and dated, but kept clean with lovely hot showers.
Keswick is a few minutes walk away, really nice little town with all the eating places you could wish for. We found 2 doggie friendly pubs - Sweeneys which we went to twice, tasty meals & relaxed atmosphere, and The Dog & Gun, which was very popular & much busier, not so keen on this one.
We were lucky enough to only have one wet day, which we spent at Whinlatter Forest, nice walks of various milage and lovely cafe, even an outside area suitable for wet dogs!
The site starts to get very wet even after one day of rain, glad we were on a hard standing.
We will definitely be returning to this site.

Great site, excellent location.
We loved this site! So do many more, that's why it's so busy.
We have the choice of a few pitches and chose one in the centre of the site - still a great view over the lake etc.
Good hard standing pitch with hook up.
Site shop is basic, but frankly nothing else is required with Keswick so close.
Toilet blocks were in good condition and clean - great showers. The one block was due for refurb as of the 1st Oct.
Even though it was busy, it was a quiet and well run site.
Would definitely return.

Brilliant, staff really helpful on booking in and had a brilliant system as there were a number of us arriving all at once.
Park clean, facilities clean, lots to see and do and we will definitely be back to continue up those hills!
We appreciate we were lucky because on the whole our week has mainly good weather and we were pitched down by the lake, excellent.

We have stopped on this site 6 times in the last 2 years, it is by far and away our favourite campsite in the Lakes. The views of Catbells, Skidaw, Derwantwater have to be seen to be believed. The town of Keswick is 5 minutes walk away, there you have everyting you might need. Good food, good beer, shops, takeaways. The site is very well run as you would expect from a CCC site. The one small downside is the grass pitches can be a little damp after a lot of rain.
The site is an ideal base to explore the Lakes. You can drive/walk/cycle to anywhere from Keswick.

A lovely site on the edge of the lake.
We arrived on spec and the site was very busy - however the Wardens managed to squeeze us onto a 'motorhome' pitch which was most welcome as we had come from France and were looking for respite on our way back home to Ayrshire.
Lots of walkers and there was a group of Duke of Edinburgh young people camping opposite us. All was quiet by about 10 in the evening.
Site well kept, although the toilet block is a bit 'tired' - could do with modernisation. Very clean though and warm. The site team always seemed to be working hard and were very helpful.
Site shop is basic but the town centre is within 5 minutes walk - we enjoyed a 'fish supper' (as we arrived Sunday evening and the supermarkets were shut).
We'll be back.

We chose this site for its location which is excellent. I know it was august but this site was crammed (no privacy) We were offered a choice of 5 pitches, all of which were waterlogged. We finally settled up the furthest corner we could find that was dry enough for our tent, but was also a car drive away from toilets / showers and not the best views that this site has to offer. The site fees are also a bit expensive considering its not the best site we've stayed on, especially if your not a member. Perhaps we chose the wrong time to visit (school holidays), we went expecting peace and tranquillity, but got barking dogs and screaming children, and all too close for comfort.
On the plus side though, the showers/toilets and utility areas are spotless but too few for the amount of people using them at this time of year. The views, if your lucky enough to get the right pitch are breath taking. Its only a short walk into Keswick (lovely town)and the site is situated right on the shores of Derwwent Water. Lots to do around & about the area and we really enjoyed our stay in the lakes, so much so, we hope to return next month
