A brilliantly located site with very accommodating staff. Much of the site was very wet, but there are many hard-standing pitches. Stunning location by Derwentwater, and only 5 minutes walk from the lively town centre. I imagine it being very busy in summer, so cannot really comment on how well the facilities hold out, but they were fine for a weekend in February when it wasn't totally packed. Will definitely return.

This was a lovely site only a very short walk from the centre of Keswick. Despite the site being full it was very quiet. A couple of warnings though - we were in the bottom field and it was a fair walk to the toilets and showers. The toilets and showers were also kept very clean except around 5/6pm when the kids came out from being in the lake left mud everywhere!

Very open - plan with good pitch conditions, mountains around the site are stunning. Stayed here just the one night as a lone camper, as part of walking and touring the area. I got delayed two hours driving up from the Midlands and after two phone calls it looked as if I was due to arrive around 10pm. This proved not to be any problem at all with the friendly site manager, who couldn't do enough to help when I finally reached the site in very heavy rain, a great example of the friendly folk in the Lakes. The toilet and shower blocks were superb, and the dish wash facilities were some of the largest I've seen with over 30 sinks! As a keen walker and outdoor person I'd have to say it wasn't my first choice, but to a large family I think you would struggle to beat this type of site.

Lovely clean site with very friendly wardens/staff. Shop very small but very well stocked. Toilets etc all very clean. Short walk into Keswick with lots to do in the area. However, when we arrived the site was slightly wet underfoot, and we were glad we had a hard-standing pitch. During the night it rained and the site became wetter and wetter. On the day of our departure (22/10/06) we had water on 3 sides of our van. People were still arriving and being put onto grass pitches as all the hard-standing pitches were full. We found the exit gateway for our 26ft caravan a bit on the tight side.

Wow! I can see why you need to book so far in advance for this site! Absolutely lovely location (and we've been to Keswick loads!). Think its the only site I've seen where people take photo's on their way to the showers (the mist rising off the lake with the sun rising is incredible)! Being 5 Min's from town is handy too, with the 2 main supermarkets (Booths and Co-Op) on the way. Staff were friendly but firm- you will park your car here!. Due to it being right next to the lake the ground is very soft- even though the preceding week had been dry- and presumably this is why the electric turrets on the grass were out of action- rather annoying! Think were going to go here a lot!

We have been coming to this site for the last 15 years and we love it, the wardens are very friendly and helpful, the facilities well you cannot fault them, they are kept very clean, there is a site shop which you can get practically anything from, and is always well stocked. The site itself is on the edge of the lake and the views are stunning. It also is only a matter of a five minute walk and you are in the town. One thing I must add though, is we have been at this site in October and it rained really really hard one night, so much so that we had to come off, they had to close the site because it flooded, but its just a chance you have to take if your are going in winter months. If you are a keen walker like we are and love the Lakes then this is the site for you.

I would highly recommend this site for families and couples. The site is on the fabulous Derwent Water which is shallow and safe and even warm in summer. We have visited the site for the past 4 years and spend up to 6 weekends a year at this site and enjoy the magnificent views and close proximity to Keswick. With the site being so popular arriving late is a problem and you could wait up to an hour to reach your pitch, but I have found the wardens helpful and courteous. There is a good dog walk area with plenty of poo bins and even free dog bags. The site is very close to Keswick town and the local supermarket (which sell great BBQ food) so you do not need to use the car! The weather can be a problem and the site does flood very quickly, but that is why it is called the lake district! I am a keen windsurfer and the lake does have some good blowy days, but the wind is very unpredictable and often swirls and changes direction without any warning (my excuse for falling in) Shower blocks are clean and shop is small but stocks all essentials.

After reading some of the reviews of the site I would like to add that whilst on holiday in October 2005, during some high winds and heavy rain, we found the Wardens/Staff to be very helpful. Because of the ground conditions and to protect the grass, we saw the Wardens on many occassions pushing Caravans onto the pitches.
During our visit the site was evacuated due to flooding in the early hours of the morning. All the on-site-staff although wading almost waist height in water, carried out the evacuation in a professional manner whilst still keeping a sense of humour.
Like all the sites we have visited, it did have its faults, but we shall certainly return to Keswick.

Note from the Camping and Caravanning Club
Keswick Camping and Caravanning Club Site is a stunning lakeside site offering some of the highest standards of camp site accommodation in the UK. In 2005, 45,000 unit nights were spent on this site alone, making it the most popular site on the Clubs network.
A new site team has been put in place for the 2006 season and they are looking forward to taking the site forward, providing the friendliest and most professional service to all campers.
