Third visit to this excellent campsite. Staff excellent, location stunning, particularly if you are pitched on the lake and facilities held out very well, despite the site being completely full.
Location of the site is ideal: just five minutes walk into town and well situated for lots of excellent mountain walks. Watersports hire is readily available on the lake.

This site is in a great position adjacent to Derwentwater & a very short walk to the town centre. The toilet block is very disappointing & clearly needs updating. There is a major problem. If the weather is wet, as it was this summer, the drainage is very poor and the grass pitches quickly become waterlogged & muddy. I felt extremely sorry for the campers in tents.
The staff are very helpful & had to cope with very difficult conditions. The Camping & Caravanning Club are neglecting this site badly. Do not visit this site unless you have a guaranteed hardstanding pitch. The price for a family of four (member) was £24 which is very poor value for money.

We stayed here for 11 days last year on our first ever camping trip and have nothing but positive things to say about this site.
Helpful and friendly staff, clean toilet blocks, handy onsite laundry, a shop for essentials, a great location with the derwent on one side & town just 5 minutes stroll on the other. What more can you ask for.
For the period we visited, we also had the added benefit of being surrounded by friendly folk.
We will be back next week for the same 11 days as last year, can't wait.

Loved this site.
Not much in the way of facilities, the showers were a little dated but the cubicles were nicely done, no timed push buttons and lots of hot water.
Girlfriend complained of no electricity to use hair straighteners, I shrugged in nonchalance at this but you girls and parents of teenagers may find this to be important!
We had a small dome tent and were placed on the shore of the lake, a brilliant view and with the surrounding fells you would be hard pushed to compete with the location for scenery.
Keswick Town Centre a short walk away with a supermarket 5 minutes up the road.
A great site and will definitely be returning next year!

This site has everything required for a relaxing holiday but please remember it is definitely not 'Glastonbury'. The location is exquisite, the walk into the town is short, flat and effortless, even in the rain. The site facilities are as has been said by previous reviewers a little dated but perfectly clean and functional. For goodness sake, try looking at the lake and mountains, not the paint on the toilet ceilings. The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful, even when you arrive on motorcycles, as my wife and myself regularly do. There is never any real noise after hours and everyone seems to respect this fact. If you are considering this place and you are NOT an after-hours party animal, then this place is perfection. Only fault is that so many people also love the site that it can be extremely difficult to get a late booking. LOVE IT.

This was my first visit back to this site - having first been as a lad some 20 or so years ago.
Have to agree with previous postings - toilet and shower blocks are fine. The older of the two could probably do with a refurb but overall both blocks were very clean and functional. If you really want more luxury than this then camping's probably not for you!
This is one of the best positioned campsites in the UK and very popular because of it. Fantastic views of the hills and lake (small tents get to pitch shore side) and less than 10 minutes walk from the town centre.
Our pitch was a little boggy due to an unseasonal amount of rain over the past two weeks (even for the lake district) but the staff were friendly and helpful in trying to get the least soggy pitch available. We decided on a no-electric pitch as you have to stay/pay for a minimum of 3 nights at this time of year if you want electric hook up.
If you have never been to Keswick then go now! Its a perfect base for walking, cycling, water sports etc. Great pubs - too numerous to mention and food available just about all day and night. Plenty of shops too with a well stocked supermarket 5 mins from the site.
The town itself can be extremely busy at weekends and bank holidays etc but this generally dies down after about 6 p.m. Once the day trippers have left.
Being a Camping and Caravanning Club site means the standards are high and demand can be great so book in advance. Credit should also be given to the club for not taking advantage (pricing wise) of the fact that the next nearest site to Keswick involves a very long walk up hill.

We have been using this site for a number of years and the more I go back the more I like it. The location is perfect, sat right on the lake with stunning views all round yet only minutes from the supermarket and shops/pubs of Keswick.
Previous reviewers have knocked the toilet/shower facilities but personally I couldn't fault them, if you want 5 star comforts then maybe camping is not for you ??? I've always found them clean and tidy with plenty of hot water.
The problem with this site is its popularity, you need to get in early for the summer months and they have minimum booking lengths. E.g 3 nights or in some cases 7 nights which can be a nuisance if you are like myself and have to work at least 5 days a week most of the year. Not a problem for all the retired folk. The childrens play area is enough to keep our 2yr old entertained for a while but if your children are a lot older they may find it a bit small, but as I've said previously Keswick is only minutes away with its bigger parks and other attractions.

Turned up on spec to this site tent camping for two nights. Although very busy they managed to fit us in with a pitch near the lake. The warden explained he likes to pitch the lower tents nearer the lake and taller tents and caravans further back so a lot more people get a share of the views. If you turn up with a circus tent you don't stand much chance of a lakeside pitch. It is a big site but the loos were kept clean and never had to queue for a shower.
Keswick is only 5 minutes walk with a good range of pubs selling ballast food to feed hungry fell walkers. Not a good place to lose weight!. I have never seen so many walking and camping shops, I think it must be the Gortex capital of the World.
The only negative thing about the site was some dog owners seemed to think the lakeside beach was a dog toilet and didn't bother to clean up afterwards. This beach is non tidal so it isn't flushed twice a day. I dont think there should be loads of notices as this is a good way to ruin a superb view. Perhaps a leaflet given to dog owners on arrival would remind them of their responsibities.
Apart from that this is an excellent site if perhaps a little large. Would like to return one day with a canoe to take advantage of the location.

Can only echo the great comments already given for this site. Staff were extemely helpful and friendly. Site was fully booked when we stayed but extremely quiet - no roudy folk - we were even quiet with a 2 year old and 2 dogs that can be difficult :o)
Brilliant site - you just have to book up early as I believe this is one the most popular sites in the area.

Prefering small sites ourselves, it came as a bit of a shock to find this was much bigger than we expected. BUT, to be fair, The staff were extremely welcoming (makes the holiday), helpful and considering its size the site was a credit to them. The toilet blocks, washing facilities etc were spotless. I can only congratulate the staff for such an excellent site and all round good job they all do and it made it worth the stay.
Town centre 5 minutes walk.
Would recommend this lovely site to anyone visiting the Lakes and wanting to see Keswick.
